This is an OK Hotel in an emerging fringe neighborhood of Long Island City...Steps from the R train elevated on an industrial corridor bordering the old Saint Patricks neighborhood. The hotel itself is 2 to 3 stars...clean,well maintained,secure....decent breakfast and fresh coffee all day.

I personally experienced an incident (Of which I was at fault) in which I was berated, deflated, and excoriated by a manager who would have been perfect for the gestapo.
An employee of his,..TOM,....intervened to handle the problem professionally.courteously and humanistically...and literally, saved the day (and the night for me)....He is the true management material there-isn't it funny how that happens?

So i give the hotel 2 to 3 stars at best with added bonus for Tom,,,,a 5 star kind of guy.

I hope upper management reads this review...(I just might alert them to it).... Tom deserves to be praised for his excellent service to the hotel. He is truly an asset.

Great hotel, 5 minutes away from Manhattan, we travel with a 1 year old toddler and we felt safe, sometimes we arrived after 1 am and we could walk from the subway station to the hotel that is almost a block away, and nothing ever happened. For me it would only need a little improvement with the cleaning but the place is great! The personal at the hotel was the best! They treated us like family! Y would definitely come back to that hotel! We enjoy breakfast every day, coffee or tea whenever we wanted, the laundry room, etc! My especial thanks to: Tom whom mi kid still remember, a very nice person and easy to talk with, Emely who always explains to us how to get everywhere and her recommendations were great, May, Anthony jr, Anthony sr, Micheal, Justin and May and Emely's mom, great people there! All I have to say is good! See you soon I hope! And of course I'll recommend this hotel!

We had stayed here the week they opened in 2008 and returned this week for five days. The hotel is located closed to the subway and the 59th street bridge; so easy access to mid-Manhattan. Rooms are nice sized and ensuite. Comfortable beds; clean; friendly/helpful staff. If driving, they have indoor parking for $25/night; a bargain in NYC. We paid $71/night weekdays (AARP rate) a little higher weekends. Breakfast is included; omelet, turkey sausage, bread and bagels, dry cerals, coffee, tea, etc. Overall, just a great deal.

I stayed at the Verve twice (for a total of almost a week) last October and will be returning this February for two visits. The desk staff are friendly and knowledgable, and the hotel is very comfortable. The hot breakfast is quite good with eggs varied by the day and excellent coffee. The location may seem "distant" from Manhattan for visitors, BUT the subway stations are close and the trip to mid-town is fast. The 39th ave stop for the N and Q lines is 3 blocks away and the Queens Plaza stop for the E (for Penn Sta and Port Auth) and R is only slightly farther (Queens Plaza has an elevator). If you are going to the Met Opera, take the Q train to 7th ave, walk three blocks to Columbus Circle and take either a very short subway ride or just walk up Broadway and over one block. Also take the Q train to Lexington Ave to go N-S on the east side of Central Park, or to 5th ave. to walk Central Park (or to go to the Apple Store). Probably more than you want to read on transportation, but I find easy access to the city part of the reason for staying here---in addition to the positives noted above.

Good location. Very close to subway at Queens plaza. Not to be mistaken for queensbough plaza a mistake we made on the first night. Quite a walk and confusing in the dark! Good hotel with excellent amenities. A little outdated decor so could do with an upgrade but excellent service, good breakfast, well informed check in desk, friendly staff and best of all they have thought of the little things travellers need. Tea or coffee whenever you want from the breakfast area, microwave to heat food or babies bottles, good selection of toiletries, weighing scales to weigh suitcases, printer to print boarding pass. Would stay here again and definitely recommend to friends.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a bit of a view over Manhattan

We had reservations for New Years Eve night and tried canceling 24 hours in advance. I was informed that there was a 48 hour cancelation notice needed and said they couldn't cancel my room. We were not informed of a 48 hour cancelation notice and we never received an email with our confirmation because they spelt our name wrong after I spelt it for them. I now have been trying to get ahold of the general manager since Dec 30 and I keep getting "he works flexible hours". I spoke with the manager on duty who I sent an email Dec 30 and "he didn't get it" but when I forwarded it back without changing anything, he magically received it. On Dec 31, I spoke with this manager on duty about a dozen times and he said he was just waiting for the general manager to call him back with an override code but then at 11 pm called me to tell me "we should just head to the hotel because the manager is not calling him back". He then told me to call friday which is today and I called and got the same run around "he works flexible hours". This is absolutely the worst experience with a hotel that I have ever dealt with.
