“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

Spent 2 nights here on May 2014. No complaints at all. Check in and out fast and efficient. Nice spacious room with everything you would need. At night it was peaceful no noise from surrounding area. Wifi worked fine on my phone and tablet. Breakfast was more than ample for a good start to the day choice of cereals, oatmeal, eggs and sausage patty, bagels, bread, waffles, and fresh fruit served from 6am which was great as we needed to be on the first ferry of the day to Statue of Liberty. Few minutes walk to 2 subway stations even for oldies like us so easy to get to Manhattan and the rest of the city. Best of all was the price really great in a city where hotels are way over priced.

Room Tip: Had room high up facing the school, no complaints.

When visiting New York, and after a day of touring, the last thing you need is a noisy Hotel. We found the Verve to be the exact opposite. There is no pool or hotel bar, so you do not have that irritating noise of gathered people. This place is super quiet, and soundproof also. Not once did I hear screaming kids running up and down the halls, no loud and obnoxious drunks, or other annoying people. Most of the people I saw here were from out of the Country,so maybe that would be the reason there was a calm quiet atmosphere. The staff was OUTSTANDING. They were there to answer every annoying question and provide great service. This was the first hotel in the New York area that didn't treat us like dumb f--k tourists, that were $$$$$ signs to them. This is the 7th time I have been to New York, and I now have a returning place. The good is, the beds are great, the room was clean and the water pressure is excellent. the water even drained great. (Never ever standing water up to your ankles.) We had three rooms for 4 nights and not one complaint. The location was not more than a 3 minute walk to two train stations nearby. The breakfast area was well cleaned and stocked. No looking for a table. Enjoyable stay, and this will be our location in the future. Kudos to your staff, and thank you for a great stay.

Room Tip: Try the higher floors. Not one noise complaint

This hotel is 10 mins by underground from all the sights in New York. Buy the week ticket on the underground @ $31 & you won't go far wrong. Hotel is clean & reception staff couldn't be more helpful. The room was a little tired but had got everything you need for a comfortable stay. If you need a taxi don't book through the hotel, just flag 1 down from outside. If booked through the hotel the taxi company NOT the hotel add $20 extra

We enjoyed our stay here, it's really good value for money and close to Queens Plaza to get into Manhattan.

The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was pretty decent too. The area around the hotel itself is a little bland - but you're so close to Manhattan that you could go out for dinner too. The staff were very good about providing restaurant recommendations and travel advice.

I travel to New York at least every two months. I am currently finishing up an 11 night stay and as usual I am at the Verve Hotel. And as usual the experience was excellent. The room is very nice and about twice the size of a room in Manhattan. The stay included a free Continental breakfast - a true Continental breakfast unlike those places that have only have a collection of stale donuts - eggs, bacon or sausage, cereal, waffles, fruit, danishes, bagels, coffee, juice, etc. It also has free, reliable internet - a must for a business traveler - and it is located 5 minutes from 2 major subway stops and 15 minutes from midtown Manhattan. It also has a free washer and dryer which is a definite plus on long trips.

But it is the service that makes the stay enjoyable. The staff at the Verve are excellent. They go out of their way to make your trip pleasant. I arrived on a Sunday and the owner/manager was having a small BBQ for his employees on the back deck. They insisted I join them and it was like being back at home. I will let you in on a secret - the first couple of trips to NYC were fun, even though it is a work trip. Now it is just time away from my family. But being able to stay at a place were they truly make you welcome makes all the difference in my trip. Thanks Pete, Tom, Josh, Justin, Allen, May, and everyone else at the Verve. See you in August.

Now then, my title doesn't mean 'Rough' in a bad way... It's just a phrase..., based on the fact that the hotel is based in Queens / Long Island City, and us ignorant Brits generally tend to associate Queens with the gang movies of the 70's and early 80's.... How wrong we are! Queens is very definitely up and coming, but still just far enough out of the 'Centre-of-it-all' to be very well priced.
The Verve is a fantastic hotel, and a superb base from which to explore NYC without the over-inflated costs of hotels in Manhattan....
We stayed for 3 nights from 19-21 June 2014, and we really couldn't have picked a better location. The rooms we had, turned out to be suites (609 & 612) which were spotlessly clean and very spacious, each with their own sitting room, with armchair, sofa, coffee-table, flat-screen TV, tea & coffee machine, (with supplies) a fridge and even a microwave! Then there was the en-suite, with all manner of complimentary toiletries and bathrobes in the wardrobe. Finally on to the bedroom, with a huge, VERY comfortable king-size bed, another large flat screen TV and a desk with desk lamp for anyone wishing to work comfortably... The bedroom and sitting room both had separate Air-Con units, so very easy to set sleeping or reading & relaxing temperatures in the different rooms...
The staff were fantastic, particularly Michael and Tom, who couldn't have been more helpful, with their knowledge of where to eat, drink and what best to do and not to do regarding sight-seeing in and around NYC. In fact the staff were so helpful, that five minutes after checking-in, at 7:45pm as the light was fading, the general manager invited us up on to the roof of the hotel, to take some photos of what I considered 'The real New-York' (attached photo)
The included breakfast was 'continental' style with the addition of two waffle machines, which was fun, and even my wife's first attempt produced great-looking, tasty waffles...!
To conclude: Great hotel, 1 block / 2 minutes walk from 39th Ave Subway, which is only 5 stops from Times Square. Get a Metro Card $31 for 7 days, for unlimited travel on the subway and buses. And check out the Brazilian BBQ at the Holiday-Inn 1 block away, for $20 all you can eat hot & cold buffet and every type of BBQ'd beef, pork, chicken, lamb etc., brought to and carved at your table.... Stunning food...! In addition, the 'Centraal' bar and restaurant across the road does stunning home-made burgers, and other dishes, along with a good selection of unusual continental bottled beers, another one well worth a go...
Finally.... To The Verve and NYC, - " I'm on my way back, see you soon....."

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 609 and 612, both suites, both very quiet, separate A/C units in bedroom and sitt...

As hotels in New York City are mostly unaffordable, I went for this hotel in Long Island City, just across the East River from Manhattan. It is very conveniently located in the vicinity of three subway stations, which enables guests to choose from a variety of different trains and directions.
The staff is very helpful and friendly, and even the hotel manager is around most of the time and welcomes guests during breakfast. Breakfast is complimentary, so I probably should not complain, but I really missed some muffins and yogurt.
I had asked for a room on a higher floor with a city view, but we got one on the third floor with no particular view, which was a little disappointing. The beds and pillows are ok, but look a little worn. Two of the drawers of our dresser kept sliding out, so I guess the floor was a little uneven. We had to place a suitcase in front of them.
We could store our bags for $ 1 each, which was very convenient because we did not have to be at the airport until the evening.
