“Wonderful and Convenient Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is about 2 blocks from the Queen Plaza subway in Long Island City. This mafe a very easy ride into Manhattan. They do have underground parking for about 7 cars for $25 per night There was room to park on the street. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. This hotel has a breakfast with eggs/ waffles cereal and beads included in the price of the room. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. One last thing they have free wireless in the rooms and 3 computers with a printer for guest to use.

I am not one to just give an overall bad review because of one thing. I won this hotel by bidding and my first thought was I have never heard of this hotel and that scares me. Turns out it is part of Choice Hotels. Customer service is lacking! Staff is basically rude. It started with a phone call to inquire about early check in. I called at ten am, Valerie was very short and not trying to be helpful. I asked what time can I call back, she said 2/2:30. Check in is at 3 so what good is that? My ride got me there at 1:30. Room was available in 10 mins.
At check in I asked for a double, the guy says whatever room you booked is what we give you. I explain I didnt choose a room because I bidded and they tell you let the hotel know your room preference. He wasnt going to check if he could do it, the rules are the rules! Mind you I am a
seasoned traveler. I had a male friend coming to share the room and I needed two beds. So they put me in an akward situation!
Room itself is decent, clean but on 1st floor you will hear every bit of noise outside and inside.
Yes convenient to train station.
Free WiFi included.
The rack rate for this hotel today is $339! I would say no way pay that for this hotel or location!
I would never stay here again and I got it for $140. Glad its only for one night. I am very big on customer service in the hospitality industry. The level of service is worst than the 2 star Choice
hotels that you expect the we dont care attitude when your on a long road trip. They are trying to make this their luxury collection and its not working! !

Room Tip: First floor room 111 you are in noise central

Stayed here for 1 night prior to our flight back to the UK. We had stayed in Manhatten at the start of our holiday but choose this due to proximity to Airports for our return. It's description as a quality budget hotel is spot on but at the highest spectrum of my perception of a budget hotel. We had splashed out in Manhatten with a superb hotel near Times Square at the start of our holiday but paid a lot for it and in comparison this hotel is great value. Location to Manhatten very good but we wanted to eat close by as arrived fairly late. Quick and efficient check-in and manager pointed us in the right direction for lots of local restaurants on 36th Street just 4 blocks down. Size of room and facilities absolutely superb for our family including teenage son. We visited the Museum of Moving Images on 35th Street before our flight and only 20 minutes walk from the hotel. We felt safe at night and day but as others mention it does over look industrial type buildings but do not let this put you off based on overall package you get here. The thing that does put this hotel in the top end category is the service and small points such as coffee making facility in room, dressing gowns, Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries, complimentary breakfast. I was really impressed with the management. The Manager was there when we arrived at 9 pm, recommended location for choice of restaurants, was there for breakfast and made sure service was efficient and visible in reception. Very impressive and no doubt that this drives the quality, efficiency and great value that this hotel provides.

The Verve Hotel in Long Island City, Queens, New York was a great stay. The actual neighborhood is run down, but the hotel is 2 blocks from a major subway station and is a short cab or train ride to Manhattan and all the sites. The rooms were clean and well-appointed and the staff very helpful. The rates are much better than anything in Manhattan. The breakfast is very acceptable. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a Manhattan view or even better a corner suite with that view.

I always stay here when I visit NY. The staff are friendly, rooms are spacious clean and modern and the bathrooms are great. Its such good value for a NY hotel and really not that difficult to get to Manhattan on the subway (or a cab) Although the location isnt super glam i never felt unsafe. We were staying in the hotel during Hurricane Sandy and i cant rate the staff highly enough for the way they looked after us. (unlike some hotels who were charging double for rooms with no water/electricity) A class act.

Comfortable hotel, classic 'block' layout but nicely refurbished. We had a reasonably spacious room on the west side of the 6th (top) floor, with a clear view of the Manhattan skyline. Everything is above average for this kind of hotel, from the nice finish in the bathroom to the decent hot cooked options and quality fruit at the included breakfast. Helpful friendly staff, and 24 hour drinks just off the lobby.

Pleasant open location, convenient for driving (just off Jackson Ave Rte 25A) and subway (at least 3 lines just a few blocks away). Reasonable street parking around the hotel - eg on the quiet 29th Street. Nicest touch of all, for us, was windows that slide open. So much better on a summer's day with a cooler evening to have quiet fresh air breeze ventilation for sleeping than the noisy mechanical alternative which is the only option in many hotels!

Room Tip: West side is quiet (overlooking basketball courts) and higher floors have nice view of Manhattan

The Verve was our home for a week returning to NYC. Very convenient location, being five minutes from two subway stations, with plenty of lines to bring you in every direction, for instance downtown Manhattan in 10 mins. Around the hotel, there's nothing much – a rather residential/industrial area, which however felt safe in every way.

Checking in was simple and welcoming, and went smoothly.

The room was a rather large double, with a really huge and comfortable bed. Storage space was adequate, and there's a fridge as well. The bathroom also was comfortable. If I was to fault something, the window-mounted air conditioner was a bit too noisy, but other than that everything was up to standard.

Until the a bit too early end at 09:30 a complimentary breakfast is served. This is OK by American hotel standards, but doesn't really provice much variety. However, what is provided (bagel, toast, egg dish, spreads and a bit more) is ok, and will start your day. The waffle makers were a nice addition.

I'd like to credit the Verve for their amenities – free Internet terminals and wifi, 24-hour free coffee machine in the lobby, outside smoking facilities (which my travel companions really enjoyed) and other small perks to make you feel welcome. As many others I would also like to honour the operations manager, Tom, who goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. His mood and small jokes are a really nice touch.

In all, I enjoyed my stay at the Verve. The location is very convenient and quiet, and the price is good value for New York. I'd be glad to return.
