“Great Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2012

Our family highly recommends this hotel! We booked two king suite rooms and stayed for 6 nights (it was our first trip to NYC). Everyone on the staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. They answered any questions, looked things up online for us, and helped us navigate the subway system. The rooms were clean and well maintained and the breakfast delicious. One of our favorite things about the hotel was that they had 24-hour complimentary coffee, espresso, latte, mocha and hot chocolate available. Also, a water cooler so you could refill your water bottles. The breakfasts were delicious and everything very clean and sanitary. Great location -- close to subway stations. We bought a one-week subway pass and went absolutely everywhere.

Kudos to the owners and staff of this fine hotel. If we visit NYC again we will DEFINITELY stay here and will recommend it to all our family and friends.

Room Tip: The king one-bedroom suite was great

Very friendly staff (which seems rare for new York) are always ready to help you and give you tips for visiting the city. Comfortable bedrooms with everything you could need for your stay. Easy access to the subway (5min by foot) and great breakfast - lots to choose from.

I chose this hotel because of the excellent reviews on trip advisor, and I have never disagreed more strongly. This was literally one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. First, the room was super noisy all night long. Around once an hour ALL NIGHT LONG, there would be this really loud noise that sounded like maybe a garbage compactor or something. Neither my husband or I got more than a couple hours sleep at a time during the three nights that we stayed here. Next, the room had a temperature control unit with choices of A/C, heat, or off. When we turned it off, the room was freezing. When we turned the heat on, it would get uncomfortably hot. On top of that, leaving the heat on resulted in a serious breeze which in turn blew that thin little under-curtain up, meaning that everyone could see right into the room. The obvious solution would have been to actually close the heavy curtains, but the curtains were dummies and the rail they slid on did not extend across the window. The breakfast was fine, if you are partial to hostess donuts.

Stayed here for one night with my husband in March 2012. This place is great - free upgrade upon arrival, free bottled water, free wifi, free coffee machine in the lobby, free WSJ, free breakfast. The staff was amazing, very friendly and welcoming. And the hotel thinks of everything - for instance, off of the lobby there's a luggage scale - which is really convenient if you're flying, esp. going abroad. The room was spacious - there was a mini fridge, which is really nice to have if you want to keep food or leftovers, etc. Really nice toiletries from Crabtree and Evelyn - it's the little things - they really pay attention to them. Room was very clean and the hotel was quiet at night. Quiet neigborhood too. The front desk staff gave us good dinner recommendations, and great and precise directions. The place is just a few blocks from the Queens Plaza and Queensboro plaza subway station, which gets you to Manhattan in a few stops (we were visiting friends in Queens, so it was super convenient for us too). We really had relaxing stay, and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a new York hotel - no nickel and diming here, which was refreshing.

This hotel is awesome, very close to the subway and in a very safe area. Very quick ride into town. The room was clean and offered free laundry and bottled water upon arrival. Free breakfast and free wifi. Lots of street parking. the front desk staff was amazing and very friendly. The only complaint I have is the maid staff we made sure to leave daily tips and even still they would miss garbages or forget to clean the ice bin or not leave new cups no big deal but still, on one day we came back from town and our room door was open ajar, nothing was missing but it's a little un nerving that our room was left open all day by the maid, when we told the front desk staff they seemed concerned which is good. Overall this is a great hotel!

Earlier this month we had several out of town visitors. Everyone stayed at the Verve hotel. In anticipation of our guests' arrival, we placed 'welcome bags' and fresh flowers in every room (all seven of them.) The staff and the manager, Tom, couldn't have been more accommodating. They were extremely helpful, assisting us with the bags, waiting while we arranged the flowers and leaving a few goodies in each fridge (that was also a plus: a mini fridge in each room, and complimentary water bottles when the guests checked in. Very nice touch!) The manager was top notch, the staff friendly and helpful and the place was spotless. Our guests truly enjoyed their stay. They loved the hotel: the cleanliness, the close proximity to the city, the price, the staff and, of course the breakfast - which everyone said was way beyond their expectations. We have more guests coming in from out of town in a few months and they have already booked their stay at the Verve - based on our recommendations as well as those of our guests. Terrific price, location and staff. A+

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the city if possible.

This hotel is really great! Before getting there I was a bit skeptical whether all the good reviews were real or not. I assure you they are!

The hotel is a little gem, 5 minutes walk from the 39th Ave Subway station that will lead you directly to the 5th avenue in 3 stops (2 if you take it from Queensboro Plaza). Queensboro Plaza Subway station is about 7 minutes walk from the hotel and will lead you in 2 stops to the 5th avenue, and very shortly to Grand Central Terminal or Times Square with the line 7. The advantage of not being in Manhattan (but very close to) is that you can get much easier where you want in Manhattan without seeing the same district all the time.

The hotel itself is very clean and very new. Rooms are big, again clean and with 32'' flatscreen tv's (something you not even always get in a 4* hotel). We had a room with an amazing view of Manhattan's skyline, breathtaking! There is a complimentary coffee/hot chocolate machine in front of the breakfast room which you can use 24/7. If when getting back to the hotel you need a little snack/drink, you can get it from an automatic machine near the elevators (this is very convenient!)

I think the bestest part of this hotel is its staff. Well, I don't know if they can be called staff because they're not the cold typical hotel staff. I'd call them friends! Always having a nice word for you, having a great little tip about the city and always there to help when you have a question. Need a taxi to get to JFK? Tell the reception and within max 5 minutes you'll get a nice limousine for a flat rate of 40$ (the price we paid for a taxi from JFK).

In our room, the hairdryer stopped working. Is it a big deal? Not when they fit your room with a brand new one before you get back! For them, every little detail counts and this is where the hotel really stands out from the others.

In a nutshell, I'll recommend this hotel to everyone going to New York. We like it so much, that our family decided straight away to give the Verve a little visit. So should you!
