“Breathtaking view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

The hotel is situated in LIC with a stunning view of Manhatten from the roof top terrace. The area is industrial and very noisy with traffic right outside but you do get used to it. Its about 6 blocks (10 mins) from the subway it's ok to walk but would feel cautious at night because it is so isolated, the hotel offer a shuttle bus on the hour but always seem a bit off when you call for a pick up. Takes about 15-20 mins to central Manhatten on the subway. On our first night the restaurant was closed due to a wedding, only take away menus were offered as an alternative and nothing really close by to walk to. Same on our last night, which sucked as we'd planned to eat there. Would be good to have some notice in reception so you can plan ahead at least! Room was a nice size, two double beds, very clean and nice complimentary toiletries. Air con was good too. The wifi situation was a bit crap, you can only use it for free down in the lobby but have to pay extortionate rates to use in the room, seems a but backward! The roof top was great and lovely to sit and chill watching the city lights, we only ate breakfast there once, it was good value. As mentioned didn't get to have an evening meal there. Overall a good stay and I'd stay again.

Hotel was fantastic, very modern inside. Rooms are very spacious with great views of Manhattan, rooftop bar overlooking the skyline. Only downside was the 'nightclub' on the roof that went on until early morning. music could be heard from the rooms. If you dont mind that and/or your partaking in the fun, all well and good, you'll love this place. But if you need to get up early in the morning, not so fun! other than that its a great hotel, would stay there midweek no problem (assuming nightclub is weekend only!)

The Ravel Hotel is a great hotel to stay at especially for first timers to New York City. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Every time I needed something they were a phone call away and helped me with my every question .My boyfriend and i stayed there 4 nights/5 days including our dog which was great so he could experience a little bit of NYC too. Also a park right across the street for him to play in. We stayed in the penthouse suite which was very nice and had an amazing view also the bed was very comfortable too and the room was pretty spacious. The rooftop Penthouse 808 was great too. The food was great and good prices and the servers was great as well. The bad parts about the hotel was it was not close to any food delivery places or anything else for that matter. But they do have free shuttle every hour to restaurants, subways and shopping places. A city thats close is Astoria which i find was amazing it was full of things to do and place to shop .Another bad part about the Ravel was there was a couple things wrong with the room that happened before i got in there but they must have known cause i was not charged for it. Also the bathroom was a little open so if you like your privacy i would go for another room because the bathtub doesn't have any walls and the toilet and shower had glass walls but you couldn't see thru them. One more bad thing is the minibars is very tempting but only drink and eat the things you have the money for because its well over 200 dollars. For example 6 dollars for a can of soda but the vending machine downstairs lets your get a bottle of soda for 2.50. But overall the hotel was amazing with amazing views and a great staff. Most definitely would stay again and probably will very soon :) MOST AMAZING VIEW EVER!!! (5th floor penthouse suite)

Room Tip: Book in advance for best rooms. 5th floor has best views.

We booked to stay one night at the Ravel hotel for a wedding taking place in the rooftop Penthouse on a Friday night.

I could not recommend an overnight stay at this hotel unless you are coming for the nightclub. Here are my reasons why:

This hotel is suited for club patrons, and not visitors to NYC.

Immediately following the wedding, tables and chairs were moved out to reorganize for the club patrons. As hotel guests we often had to line up and wait for one of two elevators, and were not permitted to take the stairs. The club is on 6th and our room on 5th, right across from the elevators and just beneath the club.

The club music continued well into the night, no soundproofing to the hotel floors. You could feel the thump of the bass through the room. You could hear the constant noise, doors slamming and chatter in the hallways and around the elevators.

Also, following the wedding, there was nowhere in the hotel for wedding guests to gather and continue to enjoy the evening, no other restaurants or lounges to visit. Thus, some wedding guests went to Manhattan.

Our room, king deluxe (good view) and bathroom was spacious. Sitting room furniture looked really worn down and tired, rather questionable. I wouldn’t sit down on the chair or sofa. At closer inspection, the bed was oddly positioned and the space from the edge of the foot of the bed was so close to the desk/mini-bar/safe, we would knock our ankles walking past.

I can’t say much about the staff at the hotel, we had very little interaction. Just a straight forward check-in and check-out, no pleasantries you usually find at check-in. If you called for assistance or information from your hotel room, you got the voicemail, no person. I left a message to say that the safe was locked when we came in, so that I would not be charged for a service to unlock the safe. A service person arrived almost immediately following leaving the message, and walked in with his work shoes and unlocked the safe with a *secret code.*

The breakfast the next day was just okay.

Getting a taxi from Manhattan to the Ravel was not what we expected. In fact, we could not get a taxi, and had to book a car service to the Ravel. I wish I could have gotten the info for the car service we received from Manhattan because I would give them a 4.5* rating.

I would give points for the view at sunset and the car service from the Ravel to Manhattan ($25 flat rate.)

For travelers thinking they can save a few $$ and stay at the Ravel and then commute over - is simply not worth it. Rather stay on the Manhattan side and be convenient to your visit to NY. If you prefer to miss the hustle and bustle of Times Square, then stay in one of the neighborhoods like Chelsea. We only stayed because of the wedding we attended.

Room Tip: Lower floor - not near the elevator.

My sister found this hotel and, after looking at its location, I was skeptical. However, the staff at the hotel definitely made up for any lack of location. They all were very courteous and accommodating. Our room on the first floor was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was very affordable and the chef makes a great omelet on the buffet. The restaurant terrace view of the Queensborough Bridge and Manhattan was a knockout. The hotel also provided free shuttle service to and from the hotel to Penn Station and restaurants in the area. (Also delicious)!
We would definitfly stay here again.

Very nice especially for the price and they provide shuttle from train to hotel. Nice penthouse restaurant with great view of the city. Front desk staff was friendly. Rooms were unique but small. Would liked to have had a tub.
