I am a 64 year resident of the Finger Lakes, a former Chairman of the Watkins Glen Chamber’s Tourism Committee and a present board member of the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance – our county’s longest continuously operating tourism organization. My wife and I have visited almost all of Seneca Lake’s 60 plus wineries. I have poured wine at several top wineries and currently pour at Finger Lakes Distilling. My wife works at the Distillery on weekends and full time at the soon to be Ryan William Vineyards winery coming to the Hector area of Seneca Lake. We recently took Jacob, a German citizen, who came to American in March to assist in vineyard management and wine making at Ryan William Vineyards, on a tour of several Seneca Lake tasting rooms. Jacob has worked at wineries in Germany, Switzerland, and New Zealand. As we found, his knowledge and palate are extraordinary. Our visit to Lamoreaux Landing was memorable. Jacob (we) were very impressed with the Rieslings. As we were tasting, our server, Jackie, carried on a high level conversation with Jacob about acidity, sulfur, and so much more. We were all amazed to find that she had only been pouring at Lamoreaux for two months. Her knowledge of their products was far and above what you find from a server on any wine trail. Jacob tasted the Gruner Veltliner (new to Lamoreaux, but not to Jacob) and he could tell that the vines were in their 4th or 5th year and told us how much better they would be in the future, but still excellent now. Jackie then guided us through some reds (all outstanding). All views on the east side of Seneca are beautiful. Lamoreux’s exquisite tasting room, coupled with Jackie’s expertise only enhanced the view and experience.
