“Definitely Worth Trying”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2009

I took my daughter to the Rogues Harbour for dinner prior to freshman orientation, and was very happy with it. It's convenient to get to if you're staying somewhere on the north side of campus, just a few miles out of Ithaca via Triphammer Road or East Shore Drive. It has a very pleasant historic feel to it, nicely decorated and furnished. Service was good. The dining room is separated from the bar, but the live music was audible - enjoyable, not an irritation. There is also outside seating available in warm weather.

Of course the food is what's most important. Our selections were satisfactory, and the servings were a bit too large for either of us to finish. The cooking isn't especially gourmet, but interesting enough. Service was good. Prices are modest.

Overall I'd be happy to go back, especially since the atmosphere of a restaurant is very important to me (assuming the food is decent) and that's the strong point of this restaurant.

“We Won't Be Back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2009

We choose Rogue's Harbor to take our daughter and her boyfriend out for dinner after her graduation last weekend from Cornell. We checked out the menu online, and it seemed that it would accommodate both our daughter, who likes a steak now and again, and the rest of us, who would be ordering fish.

We had gone there five years ago when we first visited Cornell and four years ago when we brought her for her freshman year, and our memories of the place were positive. The building definitely exudes old-time charm.

For the graduation weekend, Rogue's Harbor had a special three course menu that seemed at first blush to be a decent value: appetizer, salad, main course with veggie and potato, and dessert. The poached salmon was $23.00 and the filet a bit pricey at $33.75, but it was college graduation, a special occasion. We expected that prices would have been raised.

We wanted to get a bottle of wine to celebrate the occasion. The only wine choices were New York wines. $24.00 for a bottle of New York chardonnay is normally way too pricey but we ordered it. Nothing special--not worth $24 on the outskirts of Ithaca, NY!!

The server took the entire order, including dessert, at once so that they could keep things moving along. Things started out ok with the appetizer. The $2 premium for the shrimp cocktail was definitely worth it, and the salad was your average house salad that clearly had been preassembled and preplated., but it was fresh and tasty. Things started to go downhill with the main courses. The broccoli was cold. The salmon most definitely had NOT been poached! Perhaps broiled? It was flavorless--I put pepper on it--and it had a crust I never associate with poaching. Normally I would return an entree miscooked with cold veggies, but not in this awkward situation.......Later our daughter admitted that her filet just wasn't very good.

The dessert called apple crisp was anything but crisp--a big mushy mass in a bowl. The strawberries had been coated with sugar water.

We made sure to get there for a 5:00 p.m. reservation for dinner, but after about a half hour, the place really started filling up to the point where by the end of the meal, the noise level in this old building made conversation impossible.

So we are done with Cornell and we are done with Rogue's Harbor....but even if we were continuing to visit Ithaca, I would not return to this restaurant. Overall, we had a special occasion dinner that was most disappointing and a bad value to boot.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2009

This place is great! I stay here everytime I am in Ithaca. They have great steak, a huge selection of local wines, and friendly staff. The building is 175 years old and filled with great stories and hand crafted fixtures. The rooms have lots of character, and are comfortable and roomy. I will keep coming back.

“Sooo Goood!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2008

We dined here and it was such a great experience! The food was not only delicious but inexpensive and the environment was awesome. I had king crab legs that were cooked to perfection, the mushroom raviolis and the french onion soup were unbelievably good!
You heave to go here!

“The Best there is.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2008

The Rogues Harbor Inn is a beautiful old Inn kept in its traditional condition and serving a fine selection of food and beverages. The dining rooms are spacious with high ceilings and period piece decor and furniture. The wait and bar staff are well trained, friendly, and can provide a wealth of information on the local area from a local view point. I have personally eaten about everything there is on the menu and have never had a bad meal.I am aslo a regular at the Pub which is one of the great watering holes in the area. Located in a rural area, it is a 3min. drive to a more modern side of life. The pace is a little more relaxed at the Inn. Try it, you'll love it.
