“location location location but needs better security”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2010

just got back from the Soline Brela and thought Id post my review before I forgot.
I will start by saying that I flew from the UK with Croatia Air and they are brilliant!!! You get leg room, width in the seat and FREE food and drink - other airines should pay heed - this is what flying used to be like before Low Cost arrived.
So to the hotel - it will certainly not win any architectural prizes but inside the rooms are modern, clean and reasonably spacious with very big, comfy beds and a good sized bathroom with a good shower and towels changed every day.
The hotel has a good spa & gym both of which we used and would recommend, the gym was free and the spa not overpriced.
The hotel is a stones throw from great (stony) beaches with water as clear as Evian, great for snorkeling or just relaxing. They have beds & brollies for hire at 25kuna a day but get to the beach early and expect to not have too much personal space!
The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool with plenty of sunbeds (albeit very uncomfy ones) and sunshades. the pools are quiet and a very relaxing place to spend the day (see comment below).
We stopped half board and as mentioned before the food is a bit boring and the same most days, also very salty to our tastes, but was hot and plentyful. The food will not win any awards though.
I would rate the hotel as 3 star by UK standards with the food mainly letting it down.
Brela is a quiet seaside town with a few resturants and bars and not a bad place to spend an evening relaxing over a beer or a cocktail.
The best thing about the hotel is the location, I could wake up every morning and look out on the view from the window so this is where the hotel realy scores.
The badside however is that the hotel suffers from children from the beach coming and using the hotels pool and sunbeds. There is NO security and I was worried about leaving bags etc by the pool and these children and sometimes adults were not guests but could just walk into the hotel and use its facilities. I did report this to the hotel but they didnt seem over concerned - i wouldnt think that a lock on the gate would be too much of a problem in this day and age - to me this was unacceptable.

We found the hotel very expensive to be in Croatia: Brela is nice but there are few hotels which keep the prices high. the building remember a 70s year comunist venue. the service is standard.

I stayed with my family in hotel from 19th to 26th June. Hotel is very good, big rooms, good beach, very clean sea and good food. There are great dinners in hotel and breakfasts are good. Also there are lunches, but they are not as good as dinners. Hotel has a great inner swimming pool.

It was a bit strange to see this hotel from the outside, but when i realised that this was the artistic idea - i accepted it. Well, of course, everything else was really great. Food was great, staff very friendly, rooms - nice, modern & spacious + perfectly clean every day.
Nature in Brela is extraordinary! If you like scuba diving & snorkling - i recommend it. Crystal clear blue sea & neat surroundings is what i like the most. I like all the Croatian coast, but Brela is really special. It's quiet small "town", but we needed peace&quiet, so we really enjoyed it, during the day and during the night.

To say that this hotel is four star is stretching the truth. While the rooms are nice and modern and the pool and swimming facilities good, the buffet meals and poor service do not match up to it's four star status. The menus for breakfast and dinner vary little each night.

Hotel Soline
Ugly from the outside but very nice within.
We found the 2 bedrooms we booked very spacious and both bathrooms more than adequate (2 showers and 1 bath in each!)
Staff very friendly, helpful and speak good English
Swimming pool very nice and relaxing
Breakast buffet can be taken outside but not dinner which is a major fault. Only sampled breakfast consequently which was perfectly tasty and of sufficient variety.
Relatively quiet hotel unsuitable for older teenagers or anyone looking for late nightlife.

Brela
Take beach shoes; flipflops are unsuitable for the pebbles!
Dined in 13 different restaurants, standard and price of good value but NONE took credit cards. Steaks are tasty and offer better value than the fish!
Cash readily available from "cash machines"
Snorkelling is excellent and a very worthwhile pastime
Public bus to Split for the day relatively cheap and easily accessible from the next town "Baska Voda".
Would recommend the river rafting especially for the kids but go in the morning and book via local operator beside bus stop (NOT the hotel) for significant savings
Dress code is very casual......no fine dining here!
Sunsets are an absolute treat and it is worthwhile dining "up the hill" at least once to take full advantage.
Daytrip to the Islands to see Bol Beach was also thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Locals love their football and will engage you in conversation about any Croatian players in the British Leagues!
Free drinks at dinner abound. Local specialties are offered around the same time as the bill!

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would cetainly wish to try what else Croatia has to offer.

This was a nice hotel. First, the pluses. Very good food, a wide selection, including non-greasy food, though there was plenty of that and, at times it ws obvious when, for instance, meat was re-used the following day. The location is very nice, right on the beach, beautiful scenery, the very nice small town of Brela right next door. Staff were friendly and helpful. Now the not so good aspects, though some of these are probably nitpicking. The beach is subject to the annoying practice of people putting out blankets where they please and reserving this space for the whole day while they go off somewhere, with a family at times reserving several spaces near the ocean, plus several spaces under the pine trees which lean over the beach plus more spaces in the sun, etc., leading to some crowding on the beach. The local Croats smoke...... lots. No drinks with dinner, drinks can only be purchased and they are -- quite -- expensive. Wi-Fi is expensive - $8 per hour to your laptop. The rooms are a bit too narrow, only three meters across. Personally, I didn't like the fact that the water is very, very, very calm; the ocean is sheltered by large islands just offshore, plus a breakwater next to the hotel, which makes the sea into a swimming pool, though the water is very clean. We were a family of four and will be looking for other venues next year, maybe back to Becici in Montenegro.

  • Liked — Scenery, nature, location.
  • Disliked — Small rooms.
