We went to relax for couple days after great two weeks of Uganda jungle and savannah.
After I did read reviews from this site, I was expecting to find unclean but friendly worn out place in good location.
When we arrived to islands with m/s Kalangala with great help from Hotel manager, we had guided walk just few hundred meters to hotel with Albert carrying our heavy bags.
First thing I saw was that bungalows are right next to beach, and all the information about uncleaned place is old information. The place was very clean and staff did clean the social area and rooms every day. We were also provided with new clean towels when ever we wanted.
First night manager who had been helping us to reach islands on phone came to say hello personaly, that was very nice thing from her to do. Also we got invited to BBQ party that we were only two mzungus taking part. All the others were officers of Uganda revenue office, and it was one of the greatest experiences we had in our trip. Dancing african music with local 25-60 year old ladies around the camp fire eating great bbq, drinking cold beer and good wine, how amazing is that?
After first night and day at the island we extended our stay to four night instead of two and just started to relax. We also changed from bed and breakfast to full board. That is something you can do or not. The price at the end will be same anyway. We did eat once at the fisher village close to hotel, but that's more of local experience than real competition to hotels restaurant.
Only two negative things about the restaurant. Other is same as in all Uganda restaurants, it is going to take time between order and eating. That's why it is good to order in advance. Staff will come to ask you in advance with menu, and by doing the orders then, you get everything in european time. Also the vegeterian foods seem to be quite same stuff in different shapes... very good tasting though. I had mainly steaks, and they were better that I have had in many fancy Ugandan restaurants.
Our room had very nice and big bed with duvet and 4 good quality pillows. I slept really well. Mosquito nets go around the bed outside of it, so I didn't get mixed up with net while sleeping.
Shower had hot water and good pressure. Even when refill mechanism of our toilet started unfunction, the plummer was called and problem fixed in less than half n hour.
Staff of hotel are very friendly, and I would like to send special thanks to Shadija, who took care of us very well. She also did take care of our laundry, and that was first time in years that my trousers were ironed when they got back, folded and hanged in closet naturaly.
It really did at least look that people who worked at hotel, really did like to work for the place, it always gives great atmosphere.
There's other comfy looking hotel across the bay, that lots of youth from Kampala went. I think that other place is more of party place, while this beach hotel is better place to relax and enjoy great beach and nice water of lake Victoria.
I will go back to this place on next visit to Uganda.
We had better of two options of room quality. Don't know what the lower quality ones are missing...
