Beautiful grounds, clean and inviting pool with an adjoining kiddie pool, plenty of lounge chairs and shade at the pool. Quaint restaurant with good pizza and GREAT breakfast. Our guesthouse in Kampala provides breakfast as well but they simply put out food for the residents in the morning. Surjio's waits on you for breakfast, giving you options for an entree (we had the cheese and spanish omelets and french toast, all of which was great) with a fruit appetizer and hot drinks to choose from. We ate dinner there as well and on both occasions our food was prepared and served in record time for Uganda, another welcomed change from what we had become used to in Kampala.
The pizzas are smaller than what we expected but still plenty for one and probably could be shared between two people. There wasn't much of an inside common area which creates a problem when the sun goes down and the bugs come out but we grabbed a table at the restaurant and used the WiFi from there to webcam with our family back home while the kids slept in the room. The internet seemed to be faster than what we were used to as well, that was nice.
Our room was really warm when we first checked in around 4pm but it faces due West and the curtains were open and the power was out so our fan wasn't working. When we put the kids to bed there was loud music coming into the room from a nearby club/restaurant/etc, presumably from an Easter party or something. Kids managed to fall asleep through it and by the time we went up for bed, the music had ceased, the temperature had dropped significantly with a cool breeze to join it and the power was on so all was well.
The guesthouse is very close to everything in Jinja as well. Also, Surj (the owner and namesake, I presume) sought us out at dinner time, knew me by name (we made our reservation online) and proceeded to take a genuine interest in our family and story. It was great to receive such personal attention!
Overall a very enjoyable stay, would recommend highly for anyone spending time in Jinja.
get a room with a pool view to insulate yourself from anything happening nearby (like a loud party)
