“Pemba Island - nature preserved, life back in time, culture un-diluted”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

Quiet, peaceful hidden spot in the middle of Pemba island. Ocean-view rooms will give u a sweet feeling as you wake up to the sound of Indian Ocean waves forcing their way thru the mangroves. Be ware when tide is high you can't drive down to the hotel

Among the nearest hotel in Chake chake, it is the best because of its modest rooms, silent environment in the middle lush vegetation of mangroves, cleaner than the other hotels/ inns and they offer food, They have friendly staff but expect a liitle bit lsower in service because they do not have enough man power to do the operation. They sea is not really good for swimming because sometimes it smells organic material decaying. This is because of its location, near the eastuary. But you will be compensated with beautiful sunset while reading or sipping tea/drinks in the sea restaurant or just simply loafing in your villas watching sunset.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms located uphill to have a better view of the sunset and the ocean and the lush mangr...

• Value for money

We had booked and paid for full board on our tour operator. Check the same but we were informed that we check in here with half board, which was so deposited. For lunch or dinner choice we had to just pay extra.

The food you could choose from an extensive menu, unless the court was even available. Contrary to the specific advertising on the Website "fresh seafood are a specialty here at any time" there was never fresh seafood. The daily catch was on expliziete demand of yesterday, or more likely from the freezer and it has then also tasted. Gave dishes with lobster, prawns or similar never, that was not available. Otherwise, the restaurant moved to the level of burgers, pasta and the like. All in all, the restaurant quality was rather poor in the trend. A longer stay because we had not endured culinary.

The breakfast was quite basic. The toast was cold, butter was not always available. We have no positive memories of the breakfast. Coffee was only available as instant powder from hot water.

The drinks were cheap local custom. There was also not much choice at all. Was offered: water, soft drinks and local beer 3 varieties. Not on offer were: wine, cocktails and spirits. Stands on the site that the resort has a bar, agrees. The shelves were completely empty, there was no wine list, and why.

• location

• The resort is located in the middle of mangroves. What we really liked. At low tide, you can make beautiful walks amidst the mangroves. One just needs to pay attention to the tides. Not far from the hotel is a local village, and you could get in touch with the local people. Daily life there was fish market.

The beach in front of the rooms is natural and totally unkempt. Without beach shoes, rather a risk to go into the water. Sun chairs and cushions are in a miserable and dirty standard. Since we almost the only guests on the beach, we were able to pick us still the most beautiful editions. Towel requirements are urgently needed, but which will be delivered only on special request. A daily change does not come into question, you keep this towel runs the whole stay long - unless you take care of yourself to the daily change.

• Sleep Quality

Since there is no entertainment in the hotel and very few guests staying in it, it's obviously very
very quiet. The beds with mosquito nets are comfortable enough. The air conditioning worked well.

• Room

The rooms are almost filled by the beds. A stay in the room is possible except on the bed, as well as not. Left and right of it there is little space. Against the room is a porch with 2 rattan chairs and table, but all without any privacy, because the main course passes right on the porch.

• Cleanliness

Room service was always in order. The furniture outside the room is shabby and unkempt. In the restaurant The seat cushions are consumed. The seating in the lounge, etc., are a disgrace. The trash in the beach area were, in spite of the few guests, full of wind and fall to them and the Content is distributed. There is hardly anyone who feels responsible, even though sufficient staff stood around or has rested.

• Service

The staff was busy, but not if it's the availability of the menu and the bar has serious shortcomings. We chose the hotel because it advertised in the advertisement so that it PADI one Diving center with certified equipment. We found far and wide no PADI station. The hotel is also mentioned on the PADI website anywhere. The state diving certificate (Tanzania) had expired in late 2010. The whole state of the system has discouraged us take the supposedly certified to Scuba Pro equipment to complete. For diving was offered to go by boat to the neighboring Insels Misali Iceland and indeed with a local guide. The price for 1 day with 2 dives was so expensive ($ 190). As we had seen before anywhere in the world, so we have not included these questionable dive service. Excursions or entertainment were not offered. We can not recommend this hotel, except the location.
