“Beautiful club and beautiful GO's- chef de village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

As the family are Club Med travellers, we had something to celebrate and decided to head to Cap Skirring. The one on everyone's to do list.

1) Beautiful renovated Club
2) Great Chef de village. Soirée blanche tombée dans l'eau, the chef is running around with his crew to have everything sorted and willing even in between to go on a picture. Awesome job Jeremy.
3) Stan, golf teacher. Born to do this. Learned a lot. Thx Stan.
4) Please go out and take the excursion Legende d'Afrique. Great day, seen a lot and puts even your own life in perspective.
5) Thank you to Club Med Ghent and Wendy Claeys for arranging a marvelous room. Great service.

One big big big disappointment and unfortunately big part of the trip: crappy Transavia flight. Funny to hear @ the club that even French travelers are heading to Brussels to catch the Dakar Brussels airlines flight. Instead of the Paris Orly one. So even if the management in Paris didn't even have the respect to answer my letter, please do something as your GM's are looking for alternatives.
On top, For a full flight, the only two rear toilets were open. This to keep it quiet for the Gold and silver members in the front. You had a waiting line of more the half of the length of the airplane. Not pleasant for the people with aisle seats, but we had on top persons fainting, who were waiting.

So, GREAAAT club, but as other GM's, happy to come back asap when you have a decent Brussels flight making sure you can go to the toilet in a normal manner.

Caroline, from Belgium, week 5-12 November 2012. With the family.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We are back from a great week @ Club Med Cap Skirring. It was the season opening for the village (first week after raining season), but we didn’t feel that once arrived. The G.O.-team was well organised. Overall we had a great stay, and I’m sure we will go back another time, once they put a flight from Brussels instead of Paris.

The positive things about the village:

- A great G.O. and G.E.-team, with a great talented ‘Chef de village’. Merci Jérémy!

- Beautiful Club Med with nice gardens, common areas, … even in the village you can feel you are in Africa. In the most Club Meds you don’t have that feeling.

- People are complaining about the room, but I still don’t understand why… We had a nice room on the first floor (better then the down floor I think), with a great view on the beach/sea. Ok, it’s a 4 tridents Club Med, but the room has everything you need. You are only inside to sleep… The decoration is very nice, in the same line then the common areas, you can feel you are in Africa!

- The Golf! Every day we were at the clubhouse for the group lessons and the 9 holes. I want to thank whole the golf-team for their professional approach and kindness. Stan, Bacary, Martin, Dédé (the chief), … But also a special thanks to our caddies René and Matthias!
By the way… Brrrrrrrrrrrr!

- A special mention for LouLou at the tennis. Great group lessons and always a lot of energy. You were a pleasure to watch on the shows :o)

- Cap Skirring, and whole the region around the Casamance, is a great area to discover. We did one excursion witch was really good (maybe a little pricy).

- The food is really well presented and tasty. Maybe they need to bring a little more variation to be on the level of a 4 tridents Club Med, but it’s ok!

- Thanks Omar for the surf casting (fishing at the beach). Not a lot of fish in the sea when I was there, but I’ve got a real beautiful one :o)

- A really nice beach with a sea at 30°. No wind to sail… Maybe it would be a good idea to put body boards at the sailing house, because the waves are fantastic!

- Not unimportant, we had a really nice weather. One thunderstorm during the 2nd day (1 hour) and one during night, but nothing terrible.

The negative things:

- There are not a lot of negative things to say, but the TRANSPORT was a real nightmare. We thought we have had our dose on our way to Cap Skirring (1h blocked in de bus and plane in Paris, because of the catering witch didn’t arrive), but our way back was horrible. The check-in in Cap Skirring was really slow, and after my luggage was gone, they told me my tennis racket was not allowed as hand luggage (why it is from Paris to Cap Skirring then?). After the security control we waited in a little room for quiet a long time, cause they had troubles with the luggage getting in the plane. They were throwing with our luggage, while everyone could see it… The take off was 1h too late, but the pilot told us we would only stay 30 minutes at Dakar to be sure we will not be too late in Paris. Unfortunately, from then on everything went wrong. We stayed more then 3h in the plane at Dakar before taking off. Why? The catering AGAIN!!! Because of our late arrival, impossible to land in Orly where we were supposed to land. To Charles de Gaule then, were we arrived at 1:00 AM (instead of 9:45 PM at Orly), to take a bus to Orly (more then 45 minutes away) to finally arrive in our hotel at 3:00 AM to pick up our car to go back to Belgium. Finally we arrived at 8:00 AM, so our workday was gone, cause we could use some sleep.
A question for Club Med: Why are you still flying with TRANSAVIA, witch is a LOW COST company? I think we pay enough to get a normal company no?
Why are there still no planes from Brussels if 65% of the G.M.’s on the plane is from Belgium?
A little detail… more then 6 hours in a plane where you have no room to stretch your legs, not normal in my eyes. The food was horrible too.

- We had a lot of dogs and cats in the restaurant, witch is not very hygienic if you ask me. They were not very tidy and had fleas and wounds everywhere. One word: Bwark! The worse thing is that some G.M.’s were feeding them and insulting G.O.’s who tried to get them away.

- The local market on Tuesday and Saturday (in the Club Med) is a little pricy. The people are really friendly in the beginning, but once you don’t want do buy something or you buy it at a price they think is too low, they lose there kindness.

What can be a + for the village?
- Body boards
- Yoga and/or Tai Chi at the beach
- African dance lessons instead of Salsa… We are in Africa!
- Djembé lessons

Conclusion: A great Club Med, the best I did, but Club Med needs to change the transport to bring it to a higher level. You need to do that club once in your life!

Room Tip: First floor is better then down floor I think. We were at 50's, wich is a long way walking, but...

Great ambiance, according to "used-to" people of this village, there has never ever benn so much fun in Cap Skirring. It's a shame that Mathias is leaving for Brazil; he should be called back to Cap Skirring next winter season.
The only things that went wrong was the internet acces which was out of order for at least 3 days and the dogs in the restaurant.

...lead by an exceptionnel Chief of Village Mathias Maria dedicated to make sure his guests get the best possible experience during their stay. Our kids (boy of 9 and girl of 7) loved the way they were welk-comed by the crew of GO's! Mathias and your team: if you read this: a BIG thank you for this fantastic week!

HUGE DISAPOINTMENT
If you are not in the main room you will get a very small, dirty room. This Club Med urgently needs a full renewal.
