“Just keeps getting better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Our visit to Lake Placid turned into a yearly tradition because of the Golden Arrow. Location is perfect, within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious, indoor pool, beautiful beach, amazing view, friendly staff and reasonable prices. On top of all that it's dog friendly which is critical for our family.

Room Tip: You don't want to miss the lake view.

We have visited Lake Placid several times but this was our first and certainly not our last time at the Golden Arrow Hotel and Resort. Location, location, location, within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants you can't beat the central location on main street. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and you can see the pride in this family owned hotel. The green incentive by this hotel is to be applauded. Undergrond parking, indoor pool, lakefront beach, and a million dollar view of Mirror Lake and the mountains, you can't ask for more. If you're coming to Lake Placid you will not be disappointed at the Golden Arrow.

Room Tip: Web site descriptions are accurate and helpful.

We just spent four nights in the Normandy Suite. This is one of a number of specialty rooms on the fifth floor of the hotel. The amenities were numerous! King size bed, separate seating area with sofa, arm chair, coffee table, writing desk, and wood burning fireplace! Off the seating area was a private balcony overlooking Mirror Lake. The balcony view faced east, so we were wakened each morning with the sun rising over the mountains in the distance. The main area of the room had the bed, nightstands, LG flatscreen TV, and a console cabinet with drawers. The entrance hallway had a spacious closet with additional storage shelves, microwave oven, coffee maker, and refrigerator. Oh, and a skylight! The marble and granite bathroom was first class, with a large whirlpool tub and a glass-enclosed rain shower.

The entire property is first class. Friendly staff, nicely appointed public areas, very clean, and free underground parking. We would definitely stay here again!

Suggestion: The writing desk should have a desk lamp with an outlet for plugging in electronic gadgets like camera chargers, laptops, etc. We had to use the main room lights to illuminate the desk and I had to crawl under the desk to locate an outlet. Just a nit, but a minor enhancement would be nice to an otherwise perfect room.

Again this fall we stayed @ the Golden Arrow and were not disappointed! We stay in an allergen free room on the ground floor. The room is reasonably priced, we are on the water, the room is clean & comfortable. King bed, love seat & a side chair, bamboo flooring & in room coffee. The patio has 2 Adirondack chairs to watch the duck, loons, herons and mergansers! We will stay here again.

I visited with my daughter and parents who were visiting me from the UK. We have been to Lake Placid many times, mostly staying at Art Devlin's Motor Inn. A friend recommended this place, as it was on the lake, and we decided to book for a one night visit.
The hotel is indeed in a fantastic location in the village, right on the Lake, with a beach. I thought the lobby was lovely, with huge windows looking onto the lake. (see attached photo) The staff on the front desk, one in particular, was strange to say the least. Not rude, but not welcoming either, with no personality and warmth. My daughter also mentioned that it was an odd sort of check-in.

The room itself was a bit tired, torn wall paper where a night table must have gone at one point. (I had to pull up a chair to put my phone and glasses on). For some strange reason they are still using those hideous multi patterned and coloured bedspreads. The ones that hide a multitude of stains quite nicely. However, i should say that at other mid priced places in Lake Placid, they also have them. Can't figure out why you can't get a nice duvet cover, or solid coloured throw over the bed. The room was clean though and the bathroom nice, and the shampoo and conditioner are wonderful!
We were a towel short so ordered one from front desk and it arrived promptly by a very nice young man.

For breakfast (or any meal) it is worth the drive a few minutes out of town to go to Chair 6. (menu on the web)

We would stay here again if the price was right, otherwise we would go back to Art Devlin's.
The view is very lovely from the Lakeside rooms, there is also a sand beach and loungers.

Room Tip: Go Lakeside for the view

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort. Also, a big thanks for your kind words about our lobby. It does indeed have a breath taking view of Mirror Lake and Whiteface Mountain. I'm glad you enjoyed our location in town; I hope you had time to shop at the unique boutiques on Main Street.

I have to apologize for the "odd vibe" you received from our front desk staff. All of our staff strive to be as friendly and helpful as possible. They are human, though, so you may have caught that member of staff you mention on a bad day. I do apologize if their behavior made you feel uncomfortable and affected you check-in process negatively. Our check-in procedure is normally very quick and easy, we usually get rave reviews regarding it.

As far as the decor of our guest rooms, we actually replaced all of the comforters in our suites and specialty rooms last fall and are working on replacing the rest this winter. We are constantly updating our guest rooms. Very recently we brought in the first member of the third generation to work full time in our family owed and operated resort whose focus will be hotel beautification.

I do hope that you will stay with us again, we'd love to have you. Thank you again for your review. We love the feedback!

Until next time,

Safe Travels from the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort

We stayed 2 nights here and would like to have stayed longer. We broke our long drive from Canada to Washington DC. The views and the surrounding town were delightful. We had a stunning lake view - definitely would not consider the village view. The real attractions for us were the views and the feel of the village - almost like being in one of the alpine resorts in Europe. We walked right from the room corridor through a little shopping arcade and coffee bar right out on the 'village' street - full of bars, eating places and shops.

This was just out of season (after Labor Day) but still busy, all places open and lots to do. The hotel brochure says apart from November & one spring month they consider this an all season resort. We can believe it. People were out canoing, sculling, rowing and even a pedal boat. Several hardy people were swimming up and down the lake. There is a grassy sitting area and a white sandy beach for sunbathing

The meals on offer in the town (unless you went to hotel restaurants) did seem to rely a lot on bread or dough products. There was a great Crepe house but you can't eat pancakes all day long! We may have missed some places of course.

The hotel was very comfortable but showing its age - in our room the furniture and furnishings were a bit worn . Probably not a great problem if you were here on a winter sports holiday, but a bit 'sad' for a summer holiday.

Two downers:
We wanted a big bed for a romantic time here - only two separate beds, and the hotel would not put them together

Secondly a warning - they have a rigid/costly cancellation policy for prior cancellation, no show or even cutting short a current visit.

This is a lovely area, and the hotel really is beautifully positioned. It was a dream to wake up in the morning and look over this view of Mirror Lake. We will definitely come back to the Adirondacks.

Room Tip: Get a lake view

We had a first floor room that literally opened up to the beach. The view was breathtaking. We were just steps away from complimentary kayaks, row boats, and paddle boats. Life jackets are provided in varied sizes. We could have spent all our time on the beach, but we were right in the heart of Lake Placid with tons of great shops and restaurants at our disposal. We have stayed elsewhere previously, and won't make that mistake again. The Golden Arrow is THE place to stay. It is clean, comfortable and eco-friendly.
