“Awesome for Youth Hockey families on the weekends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

For anyone who has had children traveling for hockey and been treated like a second class citizen or potential trouble maker before walking through the door...Have I got a place for YOU!!! They have a pool, foosball table weight room, etc.. on the basement floor, a breakfast area set aside for knee hockey, twister, get-togethers and living rooms with fireplace, board games in the lobby and rooms with balconies. The children can be children while the hotel is peaceful and relaxing. LOVED IT!!! Oh...and did I mention it is Right Across the Street from the Herb Brooks Arena?

Room Tip: Many restaurants within a block of the hotel including 1 on either side of the hotel.

When we got to the hotel, they offered us a room near a vending machine, which produced a constant loud humming noise. Even when we entered the room and closed the door, we could still clearly hear the noise.
We complained to the woman in reception, who said she was the manager. She just shrugged off our complaints - without bothering to check them, by saying that nobody complained about it before. Never even bothered to go to the machine or the room to see if something can be done.
She did no attempt to find a true solution to the problem. She claimed that there are no more available rooms on the 1st floor - although we booked our room at least 6 months before.
She did offer us a room on the 2nd floor, for an additional price. She did so despite seeing I am confined to a wheelchair and the hotel has no elevator, so it was obvious that is no solution.
When we suggested we cancel the reservation and find a different hotel, she eagerly agreed and said she gives us 15 minutes to find a hotel and return, or the reservation will be cancelled. We did leave and we found a much better and welcoming hotel - cost more, but at least there you feel you are welcome and can enjoy your stay.
By the way, when we returned for our luggage (of course it took us more than 15 minutes to find another hotel), she solemnly announced she already cancelled the reservation. She also added sarcastically, that she checked the room and the noise came from the refrigirator and she turned it off "but now it's too late!" (by the way, when we took our luggage from the room, the noise was still there).
Unless you like to be treated like garbage, find another place - even if it costs more.
By the way, the town has a lot of hotels, even with better locations (closer to the mirror lake and the center of town).

Room Tip: If you do come there, definetly make sure your room is not near the vending machine

Thank you for submitting a review.
Unfortunately, the first floor was fully occupied, or we would have gladly moved you. We apologize for the noise from the refrigerator. That problem was sent to our maintenance department and was fixed.
Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and glad that you enjoy your stay in Lake Placid!

In our opinion the hotel either needs a serious facelift, or the prices need to be adjusted accordingly.

Overall the place is pretty clean, but the dated bathrooms, decor, carpeting etc. make it seem a little on the unpleasant side. We stayed in a room on the second floor with two queens. The linens seemed brand new and the beds were average as far as comfort goes.

The bathroom did have a brand new granite counter and sink, however nothing else was updated.

The room was very large and comfortable in that respect.

We did not have any problems with noise or anything of that nature, but you could tell that the walls were a little on the thin side. Guess we were just lucky.

We did not use the pool or hot tub, but we did venture down to have a look. Looked decent and pretty clean.

The location is very good for walking to the main downtown area which is just basically up the hill around the corner - very close.

The continental breakfast was ok. There was enough stuff to satisfy the simple, 'easy to please' person, but we chose to eat out the next two mornings.

Overall the front desk staff were friendly and helpful and the housekeeping staff did a decent job.

Conclusion. Unless they fully renovated the rooms or made them cheaper we would not stay here again. It wasn't horrible by any stretch, and we don't mind rustic, but there's a big difference between rustic and very outdated, worn and tired.

The bathtub in the second room we used was an awful 1960's pea-green. I've never seen one in a hotel before, but it is representative of the low budget, low overhead type operation of this hotel. The hall carpets - literally black in places, needed replacement years ago. Hotel is full of amateur woodwork - done badly. The "custom" pine vanity was so low it hurt my back to reach it. Wi-Fi service is overtaxed in the evening. Beds were fine, and the location in town is nice. Breakfast was actually good. We were just grossed out by the apparent low standard of maintenance every time we turned around.

I stayed here over the labour day weekend. It was reasonably priced compared to Crown Plaza and the other 3 plus star hotels in town. Good location, very quiet, nice staff, very clean room. Pool was great. Continental breakfast was fine for a free breakfast. Decor a bit outdated in the room but nice size TV and bathroom. I will definitely stay here again.

Stayed at the BW Adirondack Inn this weekend and spent $285/night on a suite with a jacuzzi. The jacuzzi is the smallest I have ever seen and not practical for even a 5 footer. The room smells like old socks or somebody taking their last breaths of life. We even bought air freshener to try and survive. This hotel is classic of a hotel built for a purpose like the olympics, and never putting another penny into it to maintain or upgrade it. The room had a separate sitting area and a bedroom. When you sat at the kitchen table, the floor sloped toward the parking lot very noticeably compared to the bedroom. Quite frankly we were underwelmed with Lake Placid this visit. The restaurants have very basic food, the service is absolutely horrific. We waited over 45 mins at the Adirondack Inn for breakfast and it was uneatable, not to say the got the order wrong. Maybe my standards have changed, but I have ridden all over the Western US and across Canada and paid a lot less for a lot more!!

Room Tip: my only tip is don't stay here as you will be very disappointed.

The reviewer must have confused us with other hotel, as our breakfast is served buffet style.
