“Second Visit. Amazing.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2010

This place is the real deal. They leave no detail unattended. If you want to experience a luxurious, great lodge setting, this is it in new york. Unbelievable. The service from top to bottom is incredible and the suites are in the top 3 rooms of any hotel we know. But, again, this is in the style of the great lodges and we love that.

My son was married 9/18/10 - We arrived 9/15 and immediately felt relaxed and at home. Our unit a 3 bedroom, 3 bath suite had a spectacular view and was wonderful in every way. We hosted the Rehearsal Dinner at the Lodge, the food. service and atmosphere could not have been better! We found out the night before the wedding that the person the bride had contracted with to drive them in a Chris Craft boat to the reception had decided not to do it. We were sitting at the bar and Lynn, the bartender overheard, immediately said not to worry they would take care of it and the Whiteface Lodge staff arranged to use their boat and provided a driver. They could not have been nicer and eliminated what was sure to be a stressful situation. No matter where we were in the Lodge we felt relaxed and at home. The Bridal suite for hair and make-up was fantastic even including a person standing there ready to meet our every need! We loved the free bowling, movie theater, bonfires. smore stations - I can't say enough. The majority of our family is in the hospitality industry and tend to be a bit critical, but there was no criticism heard! Thank you everyone at the Lodge.

While the resort is beautiful it is not the most accomodating place to have a wedding. From the minute I signed the contract to the day of the wedding things were a fiasco. They never set aside the room block, despite 20 emails they never made the bridal party spa reservations, they cancelled multiple guest reservations including mine 3 times, the quality of the spa services was AWFUL, the spa day luncheon had no silverware, no glasses, no wine opener for the wine, not enough plates & only 1/2 the amount of food ordered and on and on. 3 guest had to switch rooms bc of broken glass, broken furniture and a non-functioning shower. The worst part of the experience was the wedding/catering manager. All I can say is that she was extremely difficult to work with, unknowledgeable and down right unprofessional at times. I had a wonderful wedding but it involved lots of arguments, multiple passive aggressive emails from the wedding planner, getting the general manager involved & hiring an outside wedding planner. To top if off on the day of the wedding the wedding planner just decided not to have 1 of the chef stations that was included in the package & not serve the horderves we ordered and paid additional for. Dinner took almost 3 hours to serve & at least 10 guests said their meals were inedible. And we purchased the most expensive package. The experience was unfortunate given how beautiful the resort it is.

We stand by our reputation and successful hosting of over 30 weddings/receptions per year. We do admit to a few miscues during this wedding weekend, but not to the magnitude described. Appropriate follow-up actions were made with the new bride.
Additionally, we have changed sales personnel and management of our spa. The Whiteface Lodge is a wonderful destination for a wedding, reception or other special occasion.

The staff was attentive and friendly, the rooms are beautifully appointed, the view from the window was serene. The food was excellent, there was free valet parking and the indoor/outdoor pool is wonderful.

I work a lot in the Lake Placid area and I stay at all kind of 'places'. Whiteface Lodge is for sure on of the nicest places around. It's great for couples and great for kids!
I travel A LOT and Whiteface Lodge I would say has one of the most detailed oriented places I have stayed. EVERYTHING is top notch. Even stuff like the trim and bathrooms handles, ect. I notice that kind of stuff.
I didn't bring kids but I have one and saw there was lots of things for kids to do, which I'm always looking for.
Hottub. Awesome. Food. Awesome. Room. Awesome. Iphone service... not so awesome.
If you can afford it stay here!

The Whiteface Lodge exceeded our high expectations! We stay in many different resorts, and will admit that the Lodge is not only one of the cleanest, most spacious and most comfortable, but one where you get a lot for what you pay! We were pleasantly surprised with how large our one-bedroom superior suite was when we walked in. Also pleasantly surprised with the individual bags of homemade granola and huge chocolate chip cookies which were left to welcome us. The furnishings were beautiful and appeared to be new! We found so much to do at the resort, so we only left once during our three-day visit. We cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was and highly recommend this resort! We will plan another visit, perhaps during the winter, very soon!

There is no comparable place in Lake Placid. The Lake Placid Lodge is in the same price tier, but we drove down to its premises while we were there and it couldn't compare, at least from the outside.

The best parts:
GROUNDS: Pulling into the resort was breathtaking. The grounds were gorgeous- there were flowers everywhere, two ponds, and you could see the mountains behind this beautifully constructed lodge. I felt like I was entering Wonderland.

STAFF: Because the resort has so many parts, there are a lot of staff members. We interacted with valets, front desk, concierge, spa, ice cream parlor people, pool attendants, shuttle drivers, gift shop cashiers, servers, a sommelier, housekeeping, and many more. ALL of them were consistently polite, friendly, and above and beyond helpful. I've never before seen such a large staff that was so consistently great. They were willing to give any advice about things to do, where to find hiking trails, take pictures of me and my husband...whatever.

ROOM: My husband actually thinks that the website pictures didn't do it justice. The room was great- it had top of the line everything. From the fridge to the flat screen TVs to the mattress (we think it was a Dux)- everything was top quality. The best part was definitely the private balcony with the love seat size patio furniture. (TIP: Ask for a 2nd or 3rd floor room. The 1st floor rooms had a patio, but it was quite open and anyone can walk right up or on to your patio.) We spent a lot of time out there. Housekeeping comes each day and leaves two gigantic cookies, a printout of the following day's events, and a full bucket of ice.

RESTAURANT: Visually, the restaurant was stunning. You could choose between eating inside and outside on the porch, and either was beautiful. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. I was glad that while the food was high quality, it wasn't like those upscale restaurants where you pay enormous prices for tiny pieces of food that functions more as artwork than a meal. If you get the package with the free breakfast, you are treated to a wonderful buffet of fresh fruits, pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, pastries, granola, bagels, juices, and coffee. You can also order from the menu for an additional cost, but the buffet was more than enough and delicious! Also, every afternoon they have cookies, lemonade, and tea available.

The downside: (Note: these were downsides for us, but depending upon your situation they may be pluses.)
- Kids were everywhere! This is an extremely family friendly resort and you could hear the kids screaming from the pool or wherever else throughout the day. We prefer a more adult environment and would've loved to just be able to nap outside on the porch sometime. But to be fair, the Lodge makes a great attempt at corraling the kids by offering "Camp Kanu" where the kids can hang out all day and do planned activities. Also, they provide an "Adults Only" hot tub.
- Taxidermy. This is typical decor for a lodge, but as vegetarians and animal rights activists, the taxidermy throughout the lodge was a bit disturbing for us. Again though, this will be found in almost every lodge setting and it's very much a part of Lake Placid tradition.
There were really only minor complaints and didn't mar the experience of our stay.

Overall, this was an amazing place to stay. We looked forward to coming back to the hotel as much as we looked forward to going out and exploring places in Lake Placid. If it's in your price range, you should absolutely go for this place.
