“Awesome anniversary vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

We spent a week for our 40th anniversary at the Whiteface Lodge. It exceeded all of our expectations for an Adirondack lodge. Our suite was beautiful, well appointed, warm, quiet and comfortable. The entire Lodge was the same. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful, from the valets, front desk clerks, concierge, servers and maids. Indoor-outdoor pool and hot tubs were a joy to use every day and seemed very clean. The atmosphere in the main restaurant and lounge were second to none with such great fireplaces. The food was okay but average - fortunately there are so many fantastic and unusual restaurants to choose from in LP. We will definitely return next trip to LP.

Room Tip: Suites facing Whiteface Mountain (not Rt. 86) are very private and quite and you can't beat the...

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary while our 2 year old daughter stayed home with the grandparents. We were instanly impressed as we pulled into the resort, the winter wonderland feel with the lit up pine trees was beautiful. Valet was always friendly but the front desk employees seemed to be a bit cold.
Our room was beautiful, huge tub, kitchenette, balcony and a sun room all made the room seem very large. We actually thought the room was nicer in person than in the photos on the website. We were a bit dissapointed since we were the first room off of the restaurant area, it was fairly loud in our living room and we could hear employees rummaging through the maid room which was right next to the bedroom. I was woken up several times during our stay due to this. We never complained to the staff though.
The dinner options at the restaurant left much to be desired, it is a very minimal menu and had nothing to suite me. We went to a restaurant in town and it was delicious. Breakfast at the hotel was mediocre, the food was barely warm, the waitstaff was fair at best and it wassx clear that many other diners felt the same way.
My husband and I received a couples massage at the spa and it was very nice. Both therapists were professional and friendly. The relaxation room didn't seem very relaxing, the furniture wasn't very comfortable and the bright lights didn't set the mood.
Overall, we had a great time and will most likely be returning with our daughter this summer because there are so many things for her to do here. While the hotel is beautiful and nicely appointed I do not believe the service grants this hotel a top hotel ranking.

This was our third year visiting the beautiful resort during the New Year Holiday. The atmosphere is cozy and tastefully done to make the visitor feel like you are in the mountains. The rooms and view are beautiful. The children's programs are great for our small children and there is always an activity to keep our boys busy. Truly a winter wonderland and the room for improvement lies in the service of the restaurant. Each year we are shocked how a prestigious resort can sustain such a poor waitstaff and food menu. The menu leaves us longing for comfort food after a day of skiing. Five hamburgers to choose from! No chili or warm soups and a crazy lounge which needs more waitstaff and staff that knows how to service its customers! Don't get me wrong there are a few kind servers (ironically the ones we see each year) that serve well and go beyond but there are not enough of these people around. If the people supervising the game room and halls were older it may be easier for them to enforce the rules of the resort. Its a challenge to have your young children enter a circus and enforce rules that no one is implementing themselves. On the fence about returning next year....longer for better customer service. Every time I ask the front desk for assistance I felt like I was bothering them and intruding on something - did not feel warm at the front desk. The valet staff by far is the warmest crew around the resort. Thankfully this staff is the first impression and sometimes the last.

I want to thank the staff at the Whiteface Lodge for helping us enjoy our family vacation. When we arrived the valet service unpacked our car brought our luggage direclty to our room while we checked in and had dinner. During dinner my daughter was not feeling well so I decided to bring her back to the room. The waitress (without us asking) suggested that she would bring the food for my daugter and I to the room ( and would even split the entrees that my wife and I were going to share). The room itself was very comfortable. The kids loved the game room ( with bowling alley) and the skating rink. Next to the skating rink was the Yurt which was stocked with skates for everyone, sleds, equipment for broomball and hot chocolate. All of the equipment was in great condition. We played broomball with another family which was a highlight of our trip ( they could use a few additional broomball sticks :). We would definitely go back and would be interested to see lake placid in all four seasons.

To be fair the food was avergae and they have a funny policy; (which should not matter to most people) We needed to switch rooms the last night because we extended our stay , and although they knew which room we were going to be switched tothey would not tell us. It was comical in the fact that I asked which room we were being moved to and the person at the desk was like " oh I am so sorry but we do not share that information with guests, we would not want them walking around the hotel looking at other rooms". I just had to laugh because they did everything else right.

We were really looking forward to our stay here. Friends had visited about 5 years ago and gave rave reviews. However, we were disappointed with our stay. We were here over the 2 week holiday period. The rooms are beautiful and we had a very nice view. We loved the small kitchen which allowed us to make meals in the room. Service to the room was either great or horrible. On arrival there was a prior guests underwear in our hamper as well as the bath mat. Our toilet paper was not restocked. We enjoyed the amenities of the game room, bowling alley, year round indoor/outdoor pool, and the on site ice skating rink. However, as others have mentioned, we felt like we were staying at a Disneyland resort. There were young unsupervised children running up and downt the halls screaming at all hours of the day and right. We complained to the front desk who failed to intervene. We could also hear children running above our room as well. We were stunned that a hotel of this caliber would allow this type of lack of supervision of children. During one visit to the game room a child climbed onto the shuffleboard table and began running up and down it. His mother was in the room and failed to control the child. Even more disappointing was that a staff member also in the room failed to intervene. Two gentlemen were playing a game of pool and multiple young children grabbed pool sticks and took over the table despite the players asking them to wait until their game was over. We stopped at the ice cream counter and the server behind the counter was extremely rude. If this resort hopes to retain it's status as a leading hotel in the world it needs to take a serious look at its policies and customer service.

Hello,
First we are so glad decided to visit us during the 2012 Christmas School Vacation week. The Whiteface Lodge is a Family Friendly Full Service Resort as you know from previous stay. We do have a few weeks out of the year that are dominated by wonderful families that bring their kids to our lodge to enjoy our endless amenities! We do everything we can during those weeks to try and assist parents in watching/policing their children during these periods. Many times despite our best efforts the kids, during these peak family times, do play loudly or get overly excited in the public areas. We value our family business and most parents do a great job of watching their kids. We know we can always do better as well in monitoring some areas 100% of the time but overall we do maintain the balance of families and luxury resort very well.
The few missteps by our staff you mention, and not other guests we sincerely apologize for, they are not the norm and we fully expect your next stay to be meet your high expectations again like your first did with us!
Thank you

I'd done quite a bit of research prior to booking a weekend trip for our family of 5 in an effort to find a place that would be a good fit Mom, Dad, 2 daugthers - age 22 (birthday) and 19 (both home from college + a boyfriend), and 17 year old son. We've stayed at Monhonk resort in the past for the holidays, which is a family favorite vacation resort, so had high expectations.

We certainly were NOT disappointed in our choice of Whiteface Lodge! The 3 bedroom suite was very roomy and had everything we needed. We ate at the lodge both nights (even though tempted to eat in town) and the food, atmosphere (acoustic guiter a nice surprise) were excellent. ZMom and the girls really enjoyed the spa and Dad and the boys had a great time in the game room. Even got in a family bowling contest before leaving that was a lot of fun. Everyone enjoyed the pool and outdoor hot tub (while snowing). The holiday decorations and great staff at the resort all made for a great pre-Xman getaway!

Outside the resort, the town had some great shopping and lunch spots. Outdoor activity highlight for the kids was the bobsled run! Made for some great memories for all.

Looks like we found a nice favorite family vacation getaway. It also was nice that we got the Hurricane Sandy special (we're from NJ). I'm sure the summer time would also be a good time to visit. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: All of the 3 bedroom suites were on the 3rd floor, with nice views and really big!

It is very rare that almost every thing regarding your stay is perfect, but that is exactly how our vacation was at the Whiteface Lodge. We booked a Royal Lodge Suite which is like a 3 bedroom, 3 full bath townhouse type place with its full kitchen and a washer/dryer combo in the unit. All the suites are on the top floor, with lots of windows to enjoy the views outside. We got the special Hurricane Sandy rate which was like 35% off the regular rate and was very appreciated. They also had a $50 grocery card for us from Price Chopper which is like a 24 hour grocery store very close to the property. We also had the breakfast included and the spread every morning coupled with the excellent service was just how you want to start your day. The lodge has its own outdoor skating rink with complimentary skate rentals. The kids had a great time at the rink. Behind the skate rental place is the location of Kamp Kanu which is like a kids camp for ages 3-10. On weekends, we signed up the kids for couple hours in the morning and couple hours in the afternoon and they did a mix of legos, coloring, board games and also went out to skate. Logde has a very nice heated indoor pool which leads into the outdoor pool. There is an indoor jacuzzi as well as 2 outdoor ones. The outdooor ones were a big hit for most of us. There is an indoor walkway (little long) to the pool from the basement area that has the game room and the spa. The pool has lots of towels and also a shower area. Also they have some water toys and noodles for the kids. The game room has a ping pong table, a billiards table, ice hockey table, foosball and lots of board games. Also, there is a 2 lane bowling alley (one was not working) that could be easily reserved through the front desk. They have a small theater on the same floor that plays 3 different movies during the day and was fun too. There is a ice cream / milkshake / popcorn place that is open in the evening and looked good too. On the same floor is the Spa and the Fitness center, though we did not use them. At night, they have smores which was a lot of fun. The whole lodge was very tastefully decorated for the holidays and everyone had a constant smile and was always willing to help out with any issues. We would definitely visit in the summer / fall.

We are so glad that in your time of need, while still recovering from Hurricane Sandy you were able to escape and enjoy the Whiteface Lodge! From the time we started our Sandy Relief Special until it expired on Dec. 20th we had dozens of guests from the Connecticut, New York and New Jersey area use this offer to find away to get away from the harsh reality that many communities were suffering from in the past few months!

Please have a happy and healthy New Years and we hope to see you again soon at the Whiteface lodge!
