“So-so hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We stayed for an ice skating competition, so the town was very crowded, but quaint as always. You can easily walk to Main Street shops and restaurants from this hotel, but it would be too far to walk to the Ice Arena unless it was a mild day (-11 windchill when we were there!). Our room was not well-cleaned upon arrival. It was also in need of renovation, with a large (filled) crack in the bathroom floor, etc. The faucet leaked, but the counter was large and we could keep our bathroom needs away from the water. I agree with other reviewers that they must be renovating as we could smell paint and carpet glue when we went down to the first floor. Luckily, we were on the 2nd floor, so the smells didn't bother us. Strangely, our window view was a hill/snowbank, so if that's important to you, you'll need to ask for a room that faces town or the lake - as another reviewer said, some of the rooms are motel-style, so be careful what type of room you specify. We were in the hotel part, and there were many sitting areas in the hallways, so that could be nice. There is an indoor pool and whirlpool, but we didn't have time to use it and we only saw people in there once. It might be nice - we just don't know - but at least it's an option!
There is a free continental breakfast (bagels, waffles, thawed fruit, o.j., and coffee), or you can pay $8 per person for the buffet. For us, it was not worth $24 (for the three of us - it's $6 for under 12) to be able to access the three extra items in the buffet - scrambled eggs, oatmeal, and sausage patties (we paid for the buffet one morning - low quality).
Beds were very hard - heat blower is very loud - so those things might bother some people more than others. We have learned to bring our own pillows from home to hotels - if you drive and have the space, it is always worth it to bring good pillows with you!
Overall, this hotel is okay - especially for us as we did not spend much time in our rooms! The staff seemed helpful and reasonably friendly, although there was a mix-up at check-out about which credit card was charged. We will wait for our charge bills just to make sure we weren't double charged, but they did say they straightened it out.

I stayed here the weekend of Jan 25 2013. The hotel itself was fine. There is not enough parking in the parking lot for all guests, I had to park at the hotel across the street without permission. My room had external doors (motel style). This meant I was tracking snow through my room (no rugs to wipe my feet).

The rooms have tube TV's.

The mattresses should be put in the dumpster immediately. They are 100% terrible.

The bathroom was renovated and the condition of the room was very comfortable.

The location is good.

For the price ($129) during ski season - I would say the hotel, overall, is an acceptable option.

It was kinda seedy but definitely clean.

We stayed at the Summit for the week before our wedding, and it really was a wonderful choice! Our wedding was across the street at a resort, which of course would have been pricey for the whole week. I wasn't getting my hopes up for what we were paying per night- I was VERY pleasantly surprised! The room was large, with high ceilings, well maintained, and even a beautifulbathroom. The furniture wa beautiful as well, the beds comfortable, and very comfortable (and warm!) bedding. As has been mentioned before, the hotel is under renovation, but for the most part they are discreet and unobtrusive about the work. I can also understand how a previous poster was confused by the two different "lobbies", but I believe that making this more clear is another part of the renovation.
We of course had some complaints, all of them minor; our shower didn't have a liner, only a curtain, but they fixed that when we pointed it out.
Overall the staff was courteous and the stay was enjoyable- we will definitely be staying there on our next visit!

We stayed here for one night on NYE, when we went to a wedding. The bride and groom had booked a block of rooms for a semi-reasonable price in prime ski season on a holiday. Good location too. I digress. We attempted to check in around 3:30 in the afternoon but our room wasn’t ready. The staff was really nice and friendly, and they gave us a free upgrade to a larger room. Then it was all downhill from there.
First off when we got into the room there was hardly any lighting. There were 2 table lamps in the room- no overhead lighting while we got ready for the wedding. I could barely see while ironing our clothes. The sink was separate from the shower and toilet area- not a huge deal but there were no hooks or racks for the towels next to the sink, and one small hook in the bathroom to hang up a towel. You had to almost step into the old, pea green 70’s tub in order to close the door to the toilet/shower. The tub also had a crack on the top of the side wall that appeared to be glued together with some clear looking goo. There was a rotary switch in the bathroom that looked like a timer for a fan or something, but nothing turned on when it was turned, and the whole little room became a sauna. There was a decent shower head though with good pressure, so no problem rinsing out my hair. The beds were comfortable but pretty standard hotel beds. While lying in bed we noticed there were several of the dropped tiles with old, brown spots where water had leaked. It’s cold in Lake Placid and the windows were drippy and frosty, and we could hear people outside walking on frozen ground and scraping ice off their cars. The whole time we were there there was a weird smell coming from the hallways, and the day we checked out there was a strong chemical smell, like floor wax or something.
Overall not a very pleasant stay, as this place is need of some serious upgrades.

This hotel is always very accomodating. Being from Canada they helped us get in touch with the local attractions for skiing etc. The pool was working fine. The hotel is under renovations however they ensured that we had a very comforatable stay. The package that we received was well worth the money we spent. During the week when the hotel staff found out the one of our children had broken his arm skiing they offered to bring in extra pillows to help support his arm to keep the swelling down and sleep better. Overall the rooms were clean and the staff was more than accomodating. I will use this hotel again the next time we stay in Lake Placid.

My family and I stayed here for a small weekend ski gettaway vacation over the weekend of the 18th. We only stayed here (throwing caution to the wind) because we could not find another hotel on Lake Placid over that weekend. First off the parking lot is not plowed or maintained AT ALL. We went in to "the wrong lobby" only to have to go to "the old lobby" to use the only elevator which was about the size of an old fashioned phone booth complete with vomit all over the walls and floor. The room was no better complete with wet stained ceilings with an old musty mold smell and the bathroom was even worse. After looking around the rest of the hotel we soon realized this was just common policy for this property. Every hallway has missing or stained ceiling tiles, the stairs are horrible with dated ripped carpet and the one elevator was impossible to get. The pool area smelled like paint or chemicals we didn't even bother to use it, the fitness room is a joke with virtually no equipment and of course "the wonderful mold smell. Needless to say I could go on and on but that clearly would do no good looking at the rest of the reviews for this hotel so my family and I simply wll never stay here again!

I stayed at the Summit Hotel with friends for three nights at the very end of December. Given the less-than-flattering reviews on Trip Advisor, I expected the worst, but it turned out to be quite a decent experience.

There were 7 of us and we got a two-bedroom suite, which had two double beds in each room. The rooms and the showers were clean, there was a TV in each room, as well as one small fridge and a microwave. There was also WiFi in the room. The staff were overall pleasant with us, provided us with a map of the city and suggested places to eat. The only disappointing thing was that we wanted to use the pool, but upon arrival found out that it is closed for renovations, which was not mentioned anywhere at the time we were booking the hotel.

The location was good as the hotel was right by the Main St. that has numerous restaurants and stores (although the majority of them closes very early!) It is about a 10-15 minute walk away from the Olympic centre, where you can do ice skating ($6 entrance). Also, there is a shuttle right by the hotel that takes you to the Whiteface mountain where you can ski.

Buffet breakfast was included. Although we were not overly impressed with the food, it did include cereal, bagels and jam, a fruit salad, hash-browns and sausages, as well as tea/coffee and juices. You could also make your own waffles as there was a waffle maker and waffle mix. Although the hash-browns tended to disappear the minute they were brought in, a worker noticed our interest in them and brought us a whole plate of them the next time he was bringing them out – how very kind!

Overall, our experience with the hotel was decent and we did not find anything that would reflect some of the negative reviews we read about it.
