“Room with a View!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

We had booked a room with a view of the Lake. The only Lake the Hotel looks out on to is The Morror Lake not Lake Placid.
The only way we could view the Lake from our Lake view window was by standing on a chair to see over a row of conifer trees. WE WERE NOT IMPRESSED.
Reception could not careless and were completely unhelpful. There were very few direction signs and No details in the room of any services available.

Room Tip: Ensure before accepting the key you have checked the room.

This hotel is pretty terrible. The location was pretty much the only good part about staying there, aside from what looks like a splurge on some nice Samsung flatscreen tv's to make up for the rest lacking. Otherwise, it felt like I was staying at an overpriced low-end motel. We stayed in a queen bedroom and the overall size was decent; other than the TINY bathroom, which you basically had to stand over the toilet to even close the door... which you actually couldn't open all the way without hitting the way outdated bathtub, and it also didn't even close all the way. There was hardly any room to move once the door was (mostly) closed... felt like a closet more than anything. The bathroom ceiling also has these lovely brown water stains and the fan was obnoxiously loud (see photos). The bathtub itself must be ancient like I said before, and the foot grips in it were gross and a little stained with who knows what; I'm seriously hoping I didn't leave with some sort of foot fungus. Our room didn't even have any hand soap in it when we first got there. We had to go down and ask for some! There weren't any tissues either... I would think these are just common sense hotel items, but apparently not. The furniture looked like it had been there since the opened the place; all banged up and just old-looking (see the photos I posted). Seems like they tried to spruce it up by putting a slab of granite or glass over top the dinged up TV stand and side tables. The curtains had some sort of stain and/or substances on them and I don't know or even want to know what it was. Only ONE window had a screen on it. We wanted badly to open the windows for some fresh air from the musty room but could barely do that without the threat of bugs or other critters. Oh, and I can't forget to mention the hole in the door to the bedroom. Classy. Also, half of the light switches didn't actually turn anything on or off. At night I had to fumble around in the dark until I found the lamps. The pool area also had a gross vibe to it. I was nervous about taking my shoes off to get in. The entrance makes you feel like you're walking into some sort of prison or something and it's definitely not well-kept. Don't let the photos on their website and the nice look of the hotel on the outside fool you, its NOT as nice on the inside as it looks on the outside.
Granted, I can only speak for the one room we stayed in and the hallways (also home to MANY brown water stains... some of which it looks like they tried to cover up with white paint)... but according to the other reviews it seems as though the whole hotel is roughly the same.

Overall: If you're looking for a decent hotel with good prices, do NOT stay at the Summit Hotel. Pay a little more and stay across the street at the High Peaks Resort. I will next time. It's guaranteed I will NEVER stay here again and will definitely advise my friends and family to stay away.

Stayed there several years ago and took a chance. The hotel show signs of new painting and attempts of upkeep. The staff was helpful and courteous. Opted for king room which was small but clean. Actually ate in the restaurant sitting outside and enjoyed appetizers and a speciality pizza. Several people were dining outside and all seemed to be ejnoying themselves. Waitstaff was helpful. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Would request to have an updated room

I stopped here because at first glance looks like a nice property. Upon entering the parking lot I noticed a guy (late 40s whitish hair) leaning on a blue pickup drinking a beer? I ignored this and proceeded to the what I thought was the lobby only to discoverd it was what used to be the lobby. After asking a housekeeping attendent directions to the lobby noticed this hotel is very much in need of cleaning and repair. The DROP CEILING "what is actually there" is horribly stained and or is falling in. Got to the front desk only to hear (I am assuming the manager) talking about how "he used to work across the street and had to look at this s### hole" for 2 years. While waiting for nearly five minutes to even be noticed the guy who was drinking in the parking lot entered the building slammed through the gate to the desk and yelled something to the (manager) and left. Come to find out this guy is actually an employee for this hotel. I was asked if I needed help and at this point said I was looking for someone and left. Sorry I am not staying in this type of hotel with my children!!! All I can say is wow.....People take a good look around before you stay here!

Room Tip: Look elsewhere!!!

Just got back from a three day stay at Lake Placid Sumimit Hotel. The Oympics were held 31 years ago and that seems to be when the hotel last received some updating. Our "family suite" consisted of two rooms with one of the adjoining doors removed. The housekeepers do the best they can to make the place look presentable however, not only is the place tired worn, but management "cheaps out" on almost everything. One tiny piece of soap per room - the kind one found in a 50's low-cost mom and pop place is a small matter to take note of but is indicative of their approach to running the place. Thanks for the free coffee with powdered creamer and the frozen and partly rotten oranges proudly offered in the lobby. There is a large sign outside the hotel offering "Bikers Specials", so make sure you tell them you rode up on a Harley !

Room Tip: Ask for the "Bikers Special".

This hotel is dirty, gungy, outdated, leaking water and totally falling apart! Certainly, not up to standards. We checked into a stinky, smelly room and tried to open the window to air it out. As we cracked the window open, a window framing fell off and hit us on top of our heads. We changed rooms to a less smelly room, but did not fail to notice, the awful bathroom smell, leaking tiles, dirty carpets, holes in the walls, lack of maintenance and totally outdated furniture / TV / Beds, etc. Will definitely never stay in this hotel again. Such a shame as it looked so nice on the website / pictures. Dont even try the restaurant either. There are enough nice restaurants downtown, which we ate at, so do not ruin your night by the rudness of restaurant staff and poor food quality. Take a short walk down the street and enjoy dining out.

Room Tip: do not try room 205, 234, adn 207. All these rooms stink as does the rest of the hotel.

At these prices for a lake view room you should not expect a lot and you will not be disappointed. The room was clean and comfortable. The lobby looks quite nice. The hallways and elevators are a bit musty as has been mentioned. Lack of balconies is a real downer. However, if the place was gussied up and had balconies in this location, the rates would double. Splurge for a lake view room, otherwise you will be looking at the parking lot or dumpsters.
