It almost hurts to write this, but I went to this restaurant fifty years ago (yes 50) and hope it stays open for another fifty. But the service, and consistent quality of the food, need to return to where they used to be. We go here five or six times a year and recently brought our granddaughter for dinner and the 2-fer special (two burgers for the price of one). We ordered the burgers (two bacon cheeseburgers with a choice of toppings for $9.99). Our granddaughter ordered from the children's menu, the Mac and Cheese that came with the salad bar for $6.99 but the salad bar was not available (which was fine) so we asked "does it come with bread." The curt answer was "no." So we asked, "can we get bread with it," And the answer was "Yes, but I will have to charge you extra." Ok, so we ordered the bread ($1.25). More strange than annoying, but . .. . When our burgers came out, which we ordered medium (with swiss cheese, mushrooms, and cooked onions) and medium well (with american cheese and pickles) the bread came out with no Mac and Cheese. Two slices of regular loaf white bread, no butter, jelly or Mac and Cheese. Huh? Our waitress "forgot to place the order." The medium burger was perfect. The medium well burger was very rare (like cool to warm center). So we sent the very rare burger back reminded them of the Mac and Cheese, asked for some butter, and heard lots of apologies. Everything is always very quick here, so it was not long before we had two perfectly cooked burgers and the Mac and cheese (with very cold and hard little packets of butter). The mac and cheese was very good, the bacon cheeseburgers, when they are grilled right, are absolutely excellent. Like top of the line--REALLY good burgers at any price, and two for $9.99 is an absolute steal. The fried clams and hot sandwiches are classics. We will be back. We will not stress over spotty service (but we hope Patrick does, and we know that Mr. B. would simply be embarrassed) and if our food is not cooked right we will send it back until it is. We hope readers of this review give it a chance; it is a great step back in time and we hope they get it right again.
