“An Easy Hike with Big Pay-Off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Mount Jo is a great way to get your feet wet (figuratively speaking) in the High Peaks region. It's not a strenuous hike at all--something most can do--and it's got a great view at the top. Choose an off day to visit though. It's popular, but that popularity means that it can get a bit crowded. Still, it's always a fun jaunt.

“Mt. Jo...Incredible!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Pretty steep and rocky climb. Made it to the summit and it was worth the exertion. The veiw of Heart Lake and the Adirondac Mountains was really beautiful. Our 12 year old Coonhound was a better climber than I was (45)!! There were many people of all ages enjoying the hike.

“It is uphill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012 via mobile

It was steeper than we expected and extremely rocky. Really great views at the top that make it worthwhile.
The trail is well marked and there is water, maps ,bathrooms at the trail head. There are guided hikes available
for groups of 4 or more. Great experience

“Excellent family hike - up hill but not too far.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

This is a great place for a quick but rugged hike to the top of Mt. Jo. I believe it was a climb of about 800 feet in a trail only about a mile long. Kids loved it, nice summit for exploring.

“Beautiful little mountain with gorgeous payoff at the summit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Second time up and down Mt. Jo, this time without the huge Columbus weekend crowds. It was wet, mucky here and there, covered with slippery leaves and has very steep and rocky in parts but we've seen hikers of all ages, from toddlers to 80 year olds among the hikers. Some of us just take more pauses than others. We took the long trail both ways up this time, it still has steep and rocky sections and a couple of spots where I, with a lousy right ankle, needed a hand up by my husband. One hiker told us that adding the Rainbow Garden trail to the long trail route makes for a much more interesting hike, but that was after we'd almost finished. The panorama from the summit with Heart Lake at the center and the fall colors of the surrounding mountains is the biggest payoff you can get in this area for a vigorous, but overall moderate and fairly short effort. We hiked Mt. Jo for our 25th and 30th anniversaries, and plan to do it again in five years and possibly sooner, too.
