“Great hike with great climax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012

My wife and I went on this climb with our two kids: 6 and 7 year old girl and boy. We all loved it. What we enjoyed the most were the huge boulders left behind from glaciers. The kids loved climbing them. It took us 2.5 hrs round trip and we took the "long trail" to the summit and returned with the "short trail". It was exhilarating and fun.

If you can afford the Adirondak Loj, that seems like it would be a beautiful place to stay since it's at the foothill of Mount Jo.

“Great hike, not as easy as they say!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

We hiked this (the short version) because all the books said it would be the easiest hike for the best view. It was almost straight up and all rocks. If your kids are very young, I don't recommend it unless they are prepared for a good climb! The view at the top made it very worth it though!! Gorgeous!

“Great Hikes, Great time, AMAZING fall colors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2011

My girlfriend and I had a great time hiking this trail. My advice is to take the long trail both ways. Within maybe 200' of the summit there was a small offshoot trail that had a better overlook than the crowded summit with 6 other hikers! We had our lunch on the little offshoot, on an outcrop. Beautiful and less rocky climbing. Walk around heart lake if you have time- it looked like it would be beautiful. Fishing is allowed but no live bait. Parking is available, lots of it. Nice gift shop that supports the park.

“Mount Jo - Hiking in Adirondack Mountains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2010

During our Autumn visit to Lake Placid we were directed to hike Mount Jo and we are thrilled we did. The hike is steep in parts but not too difficult. It took us about about 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach the summit. But be careful, as there are a few false summits. If the beauty doesn't totally take your breath away than you probably haven't reached the top. It was absolutely gorgeous (especially since the autumn leaves had begun to change colors...not peak but still gorgeous). The bad part... we started the hike late in the day and by the time we had reached the summit the sun had begun to set. We only had a few moments at the top, then had to rush back down, unfortunately in the darkness and without flashlights. The dangers of a spontaneous hike. So go prepared and arrive early so you can enjoy the views from the top.
