“Interesting Site”

Very popular site to take pictures. The grounds are nice and we did a photo shoot here. Lots of other people also using the property for pictures. Worth a visit if in the area.

“Easy, interesting historic site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

I have been to the John Brown site a number of times, most recently after reading local author Russell Banks' novel "Cloudsplitter," which tells the story of his life and times, especially the time spent in the Adirondacks and on this property. It is a well-maintained, albeit small, historic site; free to wander the lovely grounds, a small charge to visit the homestead and enjoy the illuminating talks by the on-site experts. Lovely views (including the Olympic Ski Jumps and Adirondack High Peaks) and picnic tables make this a great place to bring families.

“Ranger told full story of the Brown family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

We were treated to an amazing discourse fully revealing the fobiles and passions of John Brown and his family. His dedication to the abolishment of slavery was extreme and his family suffered. An amazing well told story.
