“Great, cheap, down to earth place for down to earth people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

I've been using this hotel for the last three years as a launch pad for my various skiing and climbing trips, and we love the place, its the best cheap deal in town.

Ok, so you have to bring your own shampoo (you know you have a hoard from other trips at home anyway, and admit it - hotel shampoo sucks regardless), and sometimes you've gotta let the shower run a bit till it gets real hot, but the important stuff is all there: the beds are very comfortable, sheets (and the room) are clean and fresh, and every year theres another sign they've done some improvements, fresh carpet, paint, etc. Plus, with a microwave and fridge, you're ready for some low-cost eating, heating up whatever's going in your thermos for the day, or keeping your brews cold. For the ultimate experience, pack some coffee and fixins (they'll give you filters if you ask), and you can even have a decent real cup of coffee in your hotel room!

This is a place run by a local family, so don't expect five-star 24/7 service - they get there when they can, but they're always willing to help. So if you're willing to accept a few small sacrifices, and you're not the type of person that sweats about the small stuff, you'll find yourself quite content in the best deal in town.

I needed a place to stay in Lake Placid on an last minute trip. I usually stay at Art Deviln's (which is a great clean motel) but they were booked. So I spotted the Alpine Motor Inn just outside of town, they had a room available and fairly cheap too. The room was disgusting, it was dirty, there were tiles missing in the bathroom floor so when I walked in the bathroom with bare feet loose grout would stick to the bottom of my feet. The bathroom was dirty too, mildew on the shower curtain, no toilet paper holder (just loose rolls of toilet paper sitting on the back of the toilet), the bathroom sink dripped constantly. The curtain in the room was dirty and almost falling down. The bed looked pretty dirty, luckily I had my sleeping bag with me and I slept in that on top of the bed. The outside of the motel has weeds growing out of control everywhere. I didn't use the pool but I saw it and it was about half full of water and the water was a strange color also overgrown weeds and debris and litter laying all around it. It is obvious the owners are just taking money and not putting anything at all into the upkeep of this place. Even if they don't want to put money into they are obviously too lazy to do simple things like clean up the litter, mow the weeds, keep the rooms and the pool clean.
I do have 2 positives, the rates are fairly good and the restaurant is pretty good but that is because I believe the restaurant are different owners.

Was looking for a last minute place to stay in Lake Placid. Website stated they had 4 different rooms available. Booked a Queen room quickly and easily, Received a confirmation email at 1:30pm that my reservation was set. Packed our bags and were excited for our trip. Received a voicemail at 9:30pm while at work that our room was "no longer available" and to call back to let them know we received their message. Spoke to owner/manager in the morning to express our disappointment to which he responded several times "I'm having a hard time hearing you" and offered no apology, except that he hadn't updated the website. Not the greatest way to run a business.

Clean, comfortable and close to the ski slope. Very friendly and helpful staff. The ski & stay was a great deal.

Yes the hotel is a little worn - but absolutely wonderful people - they do try to take care of place - will do whatever you need if they can! the Restaurant and Bar are leased out but have great food and drink - definately recommend - the rooms are clean and warm - nothing fancy - but great for value - clean and cozy - summer or winter - highly recommend.

This was the second time we stayed at this motel. The first was a pleasant stay, which is why we went back. Must have changed hands in between times. There was only 1 towel in the bath and when my wife asked for more, the manager said the maid had forgotten to put the washed towels in the dryer and he would bring them to the room later. We found dog treats on the floor in the bathroom and mail room. There was dog hair on the bed spread. There was an open wall outlet with exposed wires. Sometime in the middle of the nite the refrigerator,(located in the closet) must have tripped the breaker so we lost several food items. The manager was only available by phone from the desk. The restaurant closed early, probably from lack of customers. This place has change from our first stay in 2007.

This is in response to "Motel Hell" review. While we are not one of the upscale Hotels in the area - we are a clean, and affordable Motel. We provide comfort, warmth, and all at a very reasonable rate for the area.

We do not claim to be the lap of luxury and don't have all the amenities of a star hotel, but we are not Motel Hell in any sense. We are clean and try to provide what you might need if we are aware of that need. We are conscious of our guests and customer service is very important to us.

While we can't please everyone, we try. We are undergoing some improvements to try and insure we are as comfortable as we can be, while still providing a very affordable cost. In this economy we feel that affordability is critical for customers and still be able to enjoy the wonderful restaruant on site, and the many activities that Lake Placid has to offer.

We are sorry that your experience was not what you had imagined but we feel that your complaints were not justified and none of them brought to our attention in order to better serve your stay with us.

Thanks

Since they changed hands the quality has declined sharply. We were told our room was slightly larger than the rest and conatined a small kichenette and sitting area which we thought would be nice. We opened the door to our room only to find a very aged room in need of attention. The curtains were barely hanging by the curtain rods, the closet door had to be propped close with a chair and the chair wouldn't even sit level onthe floor. The kitchenette looked like it was a converted bathroom. The sink didn't work and it was not clean.

On the bright side, your microwave and coffee maker are located on the table between the beds so you won't have to go far for breakfast and some old milk was located in the refrigerator, so check the date.

If you're looking for a cheap place, you've found it, but we paid over $100/ night with taxes. I think the nice old couple that once owned it would be very sad to see how it is being run now. Remember, when you read a review, make note of the date it was posted. Things do change. Let hope the hotel takes note and makes some changes.
