My girlfriend and I came from Ottawa on the weekend of March 23 for Saturday evening to go ski Whiteface on the Sunday. We were thoroughly impressed. It was hard to book anything in Lake Placid that weekend, but after reading the reviews I decided to give Art Devlin a call. We ended up getting the upscale specialty room 21. Both check-in and check-out were a breeze.
For the price, to have a 50-inch plasma, a huge granite bathroom with a massive jetted roman tub, we could not complain one bit. It has the classic motor Inn feel, that I think is really the essence of the Adirondaks and Lake Placid, but it isn't dirty or dingy, it is fully renovated and very well appointed.
It is well located, not too close to the action, but downtown Lake Placid is no more than a 10 minute walk away. Leaving for Whiteface or the Adirondak Loj is easy too.
We slept great and took advantage of the free muffins, donuts, coffee and tea to fill up before hitting the slopes.
The only thing we noticed, was it wasn't super sound proof, but that's to be expected in an Inn like this, it isn't a concrete construction. That being said, my girlfriend is a very light sleeper and wears ear plugs to block out noise even in quiet rooms, she still slept great despite this.
This really is the best value in Lake Placid. The Mariott is a close second. We'd comeback here in a heartbeat.
