“Not as bad as expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

We stayed at the Northwoods Inn this last weekend (March 1, 2014). After reading some of the reviews we were hesitant to book. Okay, the place needs updating but most hotels do. The location was perfect and our room was great, large with a kitchenette which we were not expecting, it was clean, tidy and comfortable. The lobby area could do with some TLC to give it a more inviting and cozy feel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had breakfast ath the restaurant downstairs and was very enjoyable. All in all, it is what it is and for a quick weekend away it serves its purpose.

Room Tip: We were in a corner room on the 3rd floor. These tend to be larger

Our room was on the top floor and had gorgeous views of Mirror Lake. The hotel is modestly decorated, but very clean and comfortable. The bed in our room had a memory foam mattress and we slept like babies. The furnishings are a bit dated, but well maintained, so that didn't detract from our experience at all. The staff was friendly, there is free parking in the rear of the hotel and the location in the center of Main Street can't be beat.

We stayed between the the 30th Dec - 5th Jan and had a fabulous time . The hotel is spotless , rooms are tastefully decorated. We asked to be near our teenage children and were given 2 large adjoining rooms . We actually had a double bed each!!! The heating is a bit dated but apart from that the rooms are really comfortable. We had half board and every meal, buffet style, was extremely satisfying. The location is superb and Lake Placid is one of the prettiest towns I have ever visited. I would definitely recommend the Northwood Inn.

The location of this hotel is perfect as it is bang in the middle of Lake Placid. Starbucks is a stones throw away and there are some good eating establishments in the vicinity. Parking is free at the back of the hotel which is good, as parking is very limited in the Lake Placid area.

Those I'm afraid are the only good points to make about Northwoods Inn! On arrival we found that our door to our room moved forward about one inch in thew locked position enabling anyone entrance to the room with a screw driver. To the managements credit they did take care of this when notified, but this should have been taken care of long before a customer was given keys to the room.

The room itself was very dated and we could only get the immediate bedroom to warm up and not the adjoining suit and bathroom area. If you are looking for a good night sleep then pray to God you are not below a room with young people as you can hear every word and movement from the rooms above. I must say it was one of the worst rooms I have stayed in where noise travelled from the above rooms.

Top Tip: Do not eat at the bar downstairs. This again I was warned about by the hotel staff, but returned late one night and this was the only place serving food at 10:30.

Room Tip: Top Floor with no rooms above you!

Dear Michael,

Thank you for staying with us during your trip this December. We appreciate the constructive feedback, particularly as we move closer toward our major renovation. We sincerely wish your experience were a better one in both the guest rooms and Delta Blue.

We hope you come back to Lake Placid soon, and if you do, come back to see our progress.

Warm regards, Garrick

My son and I stayed on September 29th. From the minute we walked in the door, the front desk, gentleman was very helpful and made several suggestions for rooms, and even let us see the different rooms. We were allowed to check in early. Later a woman (housekeeping manager?) and a housekeeper, checked on us to see if we needed anything. The evening desk person was also helpful suggesting dinner options as well as trying to get the internet service to work.
The next morning check out was breeze.
The staff deserves a huge thanks and from my perspective a nice raise. We will be returning!!!!!!

Same room for the past 3 years- 512. First year we had the top floor but since my husband spoke how great it was to the group the person arranging the event has been placed in this room. Things are gradually improving on the property. Cleanliness is still a issue. We had the head housekeeper one day and it made a big difference over the two staff persons who had previously cleaned our room. Food was very good. Location great. Friendly helpful staff.

I stayed at the Northwoods in (regrettably) last weekend. It was OK, if you don't mind the following:

1. Filthy hallways - filled with trash that no one cleaned.
2. Very dirty room - garbage between bed and night stand. No one cleaned.
3. Dead bugs along baseboard of room. No one cleaned.
4. VERY loud - lots of kids running up and down hallway.
5. Bedspread in room was worn out; filthy and tired looking.
6. One of two elevators did not work. The other was jarring and scarey.
7. Room was very narrow and dark.
8. Lamp in middle room did not work.
9. EXTREMELY noisey at night from people outside hotel. Tough to sleep.
10. Matress was OK, but box spring below is was warped, rolled out of bed.
11. Parking lot is EXTREMELY narrow and small and tough to navigate.
12. No complimentary breakfast.
13. Bartender in bar downstairs didn't stop serving drunks. A fight broke out.
14. Staff was friendly, but never lifted a finger to resolve any problems.

Stay away from this place. It was horrible. When informed of their problems, their only remark was that "at least it doesn't cost $300/night." I will never set foor in this hotel again.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.
