“Worst hospitality ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

I could describe in detail the squeaking beds and doors that prevented any good sleep, the misleading information on their web site, and many other faults. However, what really earns this place the "worst hospitality ever" badge is the attitude of the owner, Carol. As other reviewers have already commented - for this attitude only you should never consider this place.

Our "warm welcome" started when, shortly after making the online reservation, I got an email from the owner. She didn't even bother starting her email with "hello" (let alone something like "thanks for booking with us" or "we look forward to having you here") - the email opened with something along the lines of "attached are our rules and regulation" - what a great welcome!  Initially I thought it was just a bad selection of words, but when we checked in - the receptionist had the same attitude: I walked in, she didn't even say hello, but only said in a cold voice "It's open. The keys are in the room." That's pretty much it.

But the worst was yet to come. I 'dared' returning to the reception to ask for an extra sheet (so that my sons, who shared a double bed, could sleep more comfortably). The owner Carol started interrogating me: "why do you need another sheet?", "what do you want to do with it?". She then continued with "I don't know if I have any extra sheets", and eventually, after she finally agreed to get one, she just had to make one final rude remark: "I hope there are no more than five of you" (as if I was planing to hide extra guests...). Needless to say - from this point on we minimized any contact with her for the rest of our stay.

With this kind of attitude I assume that no guests ever return here. I strongly suggest that you skip this place altogether, and stay in an establishment that respects you.

We spent a night in a double room, which included a double and a single bed. The place was nice with old furniture and character. The bed made noise but was confortable.
Everything was very clean and smelled goog. The bathroom was fine with a nice shower.
It is out of the village and very quiet.
The owner was nice.

About a mile from the mirror lake. A cute little B&B. The room was so beautiful. Breakfast in the morning included homemade bread which was yummy. Not very fancy.

The owner has two cats who watch TV all day :P

If you're looking for a breakfast and a bed...this isn't it. The Bedroom we stayed in was a queen bed with an adjoining bedroom containing a full lower and single upper bunk. Very nice place. The owner/host for the weekend needs training in hospitality.
The breakfast was cereal, breads, and nature valley bars. The breakfast isn't served until 8 am due to over crowding rooms all through the first floor and the doors being in the dining room, We were scolded for talking before 8 am in the Living room and dining room areas by a very iritated host. we were wanting to be on the slopes of WhiteFace when the resort opened at 8 so we had our own cereal and proceeded to prepare our own breakfast using the lodges milk. everything was fine, until the host showed up and refused to allow us to use thier milk until 8 am. I explained to her that we were on our way to ski, had our own cereal and only needed milk, she made me put the milk and the bowl back on the counter and made us wait.

We had the most uncomfortable bed in room seven. If the room had a better bed, the breakfast was little tastier or the rates a little lower then I'd stay there again. Go to Tmax and Topo- it's not as quiet, but the beds are better, it's cheaper and you can bring your own cereal "continental breakfast".

We stayed in 'A place to lay our heads'. We were on a budget and this place was perfect! The owner was very nice and always available to answer our questions about the area. The included breakfast has yummy homemade bread! It was very cozy and homey like staying at a friends house. Loved visiting with her precious kitties in the evenings. The location is just a short walk to some great resturaunts and a very short drive to Main Street. Was not a long drive to the ski resort either which was our reason for visiting. We would definitly choose this place again for our stay!

Spruce Lodge B&B is located just off the main street in Lake Placid village.

Pros:-
The lodge overall is very clean, nice sized rooms and spacious bathrooms.
Good parking space
Peaceful & Convenient

Cons:-
Little away from all the hustle and bustle of the Main St. in Lake Placid
Breakfast is served from 8:00 AM as compared to hotels where it starts from 6:00 - 7:00.
We had to leave early morning, so could not have breakfast.

Overall a good value for money, will definitely book again for Lake Placid.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms have a Queen bed and 2 bunk beds, i.e. sleeps 4
