“All of the superlatives well-deserved”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

this is a spectacular destination where customer service is of the highest order and attention to detail is paramount. Many products and services are included in the price, such as, a guided boat tour around Lake Placid, different hor d' oeuvres/snacks delivered to your room, to accompany your favorite beverage, a copious breakfast, high quality bicycles, kayaks, and canoes, your refrigerator stocked with waters and fruit juices....even s pre-packaged s'mores kits which you can take down to the lakeside campfire and do-it-yourself. The waitstaff has been very well trained--you are greeted by everyone with a pleasant smile. We were celebrating a big anniversary and were comp-ed a bottle of champagne. The interior decoration is real Adirondak, but without the kitchy items you find in lesser venues. The restaurant and pub have quality dishes and drinks. Definitely a place for a repeat visit.

The Adirondack High Peaks region is a national treasure, and if you've got the urge to climb, canoe, fish or whatever, get going. But pack your rain gear because you're likely to to encounter precipitation at some point. So the life of a 'Dacks outdoorsman/ -woman has its appeal, but it doesn't have to mean that you need to stay in a tent or a "family motel" with weird odors. No, indeed! If you have the means, you can return to the epitome of civilization to rest your weary head at this exquisite, informal Relais & Chateaux property on gorgeous Lake Placid. The place is an architectural wonder (restored several years ago after the original was consumed by fire), with the largest private collection of Hudson River School art on the walls (so they claim) and plenty of antlers. But on these hand hewn chairs you'd be more likely to see Thurston Howell than granny smoking a pipe. There are 2 restaurants, Artisans for fine dining and a charming pub with excellent fare and less fanfare. The bartender is a whiz with fantasy cocktails. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the best hikes and watering holes (eating every meal at the Lodge would make you fat and happy, so you may want a break to stay thin and happy). Make sure you take a ride on the Lodge's custom-made boat, and do one of the hand-made puzzles in the pub at night. This is pretty much a perfect resort, but be warned, a few nights there cost about the same as a week in resorts considered fairly posh. I love this place and will return and return and return if my good fortune remains.

Room Tip: I don't think there's a bad one.

What a place! Although the weather was rainy and cold, this elegant place was awesome. All of the rooms/cabins have real wood burning fireplaces and you are encouraged to use them. The view is amazing, the staff is welcoming and their service is unbelievable. The food is gourmet with an extensive wine list, and they will accommodate any dietary restrictions and allergies without question. What the weather did not provide, this place did! Awesome romantic setting...we were greeted with two glasses of champagne, and our room had a half bottle of wine with cheese and poached pears! Fireplaces abound throughout the place, both outside and inside, and if a fire is not lit, there sits matches with wood and paper in the fireplaces for you to start! This place is worth the price....you won't regret your decision to stay at the Lake Placid Lodge. We can't wait to go back!

Loved this place, we only came for cocktails but had we known how gorgeous a setting it was we would have loved to stay here. Also, like other reviews have stated, the staff was divine--friendly and attentive. We were encouraged to wander the public rooms and the grounds and beach and everything was just so lovely. The mixologist was also righteously talented--The Ruby Slipper was excellent! Really, if you can afford it--go!!

Just finishing up 3 nights at the LPL. Beginning of the season so very quiet and relaxing. Staff to guest ratio extremely high! Staff all extremely friendly, Bethany, Jordan, Cody, Laurie, Ernie (thanks for the boat tour, head of maintenance you have my dream retirement job), Steve (very knowledgeable and generous server in Maggie's) thanks to all of you for the warm reception. We stayed in the Birch cabin and are happy we did - secluded but not, rustic but with all the comfort and amenities you would want and steps (literally) from the Lodge and Maggie's Pub. Great view of the lake and Whiteface from the porch, perfect place to watch sunrise sipping French press coffee.

Day one we took advantage of the bikes at the Lodge, high end Cannondale mountain bikes, very nice, helmets provided. Toured into lake placid as trails were pretty wet. We did the Mirror Lake loop and then strolled through town. Had lunch 2 day at the Creperie on Main Street, great sandwiches (huge selection 43 I think). Day two we drove up to the top of Whiteface, then a short hike to the summit, great vistas as the permanent cloud blows in and out. Took a cool elevator back down to parking lot. Also, took an electric pedal boat for two out one afternoon and circles Buck island (took about 90 minutes), a bit of exercise as the batteries only last about 40 minutes, but fun and scenic.

We ate breakfasts out on the lodge porch most days. Dinners were in Maggie's pub, however we chose off both the Pub menu and Artisans menu. Splurged on the last night with a Wagyu beef steak, not cheap, an experience though ... The Japanese know how to raise cattle.

All in all, even though the weather was touch and go, we had a great experience. The Lodge apparently just changed ownership hand in the past month, not sure the impact as we have not been here before. Staff I'm told did not really change. I would like to have seen the manager a little more present greeting or acknowledging the guests, this seemed to have been relegated to staff .... When there are so few guests in house, I think management should make an effort - especially at a relais et chateau quality establishment.

Dear Reckka,

Thank you very much for your kind words and praises of the Lodge and our staff. As you mentioned being the beginning of season in May it is a spectacular time to come visit and enjoy a very relaxing time both at the Lodge and Lake Placid as a whole.

I'm happy to hear you took full advantage of the various recreational activities available and enjoyed Maggie's Pub so much.

We have in the past month changed ownership and as you accurately stated almost the entire staff has joined with the new owners to continue providing the same high level of service we have been known for. I do apologize that I did not personally have the opportunity to meet you and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Best Regards,

Gorgeous facility. Cabin on the lake is recommended. Well appointed, quiet and very comfortable. Hotel staff is best ever, no exceptions. All made an effort to make you feel welcome. Food service is excellent. Very creative menu. Take advantage of the kitchen tour.

Room Tip: St Armand was our cabin. Great for two people right on the lake shore

Dear Tom T,

I am so glad to hear you thoroughly enjoyed your time at the Lake Placid Lodge both in accomodation and cuisine. The lakefront cabins are an experience in themselves and both restaurants unique in every facet. Of course our most valuable asset is our staff and we could not accomplish what we are able to without their talents and personalities.

One of our goals are to always make our guests feel as if they have arrived home. We can't wait to welcome you back and welcome you home!
