“Gem on the Hill”

Stayed here for two nights for a late summer get-away with friends. Friendly, competent staff; nicely appointed rooms; great atmosphere. Had dinner "at the bar" and even though the restaurant was fully booked from a wedding and local guests, we had a spectacular meal. Wine list is respectable and beer list interesting. Owners are personable, helpful and accommodating -- AND, last but not least -- the breakfasts are amazing. Would DEFINITELY return to this well kept secret in Lake Placid.

Room Tip: No bad rooms here -- even with a busy bar and restaurant, we had a quiet night's sleep.

We had a marvelous midweek stay at this lovely inn. The most friendly staff, great pub and restaurant and perfect accommodations make this inn a perfect place to stay and enjoy. The proprietor Mary is a delightful hostess and breakfast chef.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony are worth the extra cost if you enjoy relaxing and reading in perfect solitude.

We recently had the pleasure to dine at the Interlaken restaurant located at the Interlaken Inn.....we were a table of four and we dined on haddock; lamb; and veal.....the meals were are fabulously prepared by Chef Kevin Dunford who personally came to our table to hear our reactions to the dishes his staff turned out that evening......the fish was fresh, moist and nicely seasoned - not swimming in sauces; the lamb loin chops were tender and medium cooked as requested; the veal chops were tender and all accompanying side dishes were very tasty.....a sugar free dessert was requested before hand and Kevin went out of his way to make a delicious warm peach dish as well as a mixed berry cobbler.....both were excellent.......our waitress Susan was professional and friendly and we highly recommend dining here even if you do not stay at the Inn......perfect spot for locals to dine as well......we will be back

Room Tip: Did not stay at the Inn.....dined there only

Our 10 member Book Club recently stayed at the Inn to celebrate our 25th. Anniversary as a book club. The rooms at the Inn were clean and nicely decorated with quality beds, lovely linens, bedsheets, towels and bathrobes. Mary, the innkeeper, provided coffee in the morning and for an extra charge, breakfast was served in the lovely dining room. We chose to eat at the inn for 2 mornings as well as dinner on our last night. We were not disappointed! Mary's graciousness and excellent staff made for a lovely stay. It is on our "return list".

This review is of the pub/restaurant at the inn, not the inn itself.
We had dinner at the Interlaken the other night and I have to say it exceeded any expectations I had of a pub menu. The pub looks great and has a cozy feel to it and our experience was a pleasant, unforced one. The menu had plenty of interesting options and the portions were on the large side. They were nice enough to split our salad for us and service was generally very good. Not quite top-notch but certainly very good. The food was really delicious and the wine list extensive, with some nice by-the-glass options. We really liked this place and will come back for a "proper" dinner.

When we visit here, we feel like we're close to being home: comfortable surroundings, excellent food, a well-stocked bar, and staff who remember you like old friends. We have stayed here in all seasons, and each season it is our home base for hiking or skiing adventures. A few minor upgrades to door handles and some additional room lighting would catapult this property to being the premier location at which I have ever stayed.

Room Tip: Go on line and look at the room images. Each has different decor.

I stayed here for a weekend while in town for a wedding. The staff was excellent, taking very good care of every detail. The room was beautiful and cozy. Each one is different and special in its own way and I look forward to going back again to stay in another room. The restaurant was delicious and again, the staff were outstanding. Thank you for a great weekend!

Room Tip: Ask about the different layouts, etc.
