“Great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2010

This is the second time at High Peaks and enjoyed it. It was Mothers Day weekend and the room was spectacular. The bathroom is spacious too. It's walking distace down all the great shops on Main Street and if you get the right room the view is breathtaking.

We loved High Peaks so much the first time we returned with the kids in May 10'. Beautiful and very clean rooms. We will be making this a yearly trip.

This May’s trip to the High Peaks Resort was our third since they bought the property from the Hilton chain of resorts. We were regular visitors to the Hilton for almost thirty years. We returned because they treated us like royalty when we visited and that treatment has continued for us at The High Peaks Resort.
This resort is comprised of three separate buildings. All the buildings contain rooms with beautiful views of Mirror Lake and the mountains that surround it. The main building and the water front building were completely renovated when High Peaks took over in 2008. The rooms sport the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. We were so impressed with the comfort we dissected the bed and have the same setup at home now. Anytime we have found anything so much as a light out in the bath, a call to the desk has resulted in instant service. This last trip we hardly left the resort except for our walks around Mirror Lake and to try one local restaurant. My wife an avid reader loves the balcony when weather permits or would cozy up to the fireplace in PR’s Lounge, which is a new addition off the main lobby of the resort.
Pr’s Lounge, The Dancing Bears Lounge and Restaurant, and Reflections Restaurant are all located in the main building. All three are new since the purchase by High Peaks. All show vast improvement over their predecessors. Reflections has a roof top dining deck second to none. In our three visits so far we have not encountered anything but delicious food and drinks at any of these establishments. The service has always been great. The NY strip steak dinner I got this last trip for sixteen dollars rivaled any I had paid twice as much for at other resorts. We ate all but one dinner here during our five night stay. The service and the food will keep us coming back.
The main building has a pool and Jacuzzi on the fourth floor inside and also a beautiful courtyard pool in the center of the building. They also have an outside pool at the water front building. While the outside pools were close for this trip we have enjoyed them in the past and find all the recreational area to be kept clean and well maintained. Towels were provided at the indoor pools and my memory fails me on whether this was true for the outside ones as well. The fitness center is world class for a resort. The treadmills have individual televisions for your pleasure and the rest of the equipment is also top notch.
The water front building contains six suites. It also contains a long row of rooms built ingeniously under the parking lot. The sliders open onto a small patio with your own bistro table and chairs. Beyond that is a beautifully kept lawn area with lounge chairs ( in season). The resorts canoes, kayaks and row boats are docked where the lawn meets the water (also only in season). We have never known we were under a parking lot once we entered the lower level where the rooms are. The suites have balconies that are actually over the water! Some have fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs. This is our favorite place to stay!
The third building is now called the Lake View Motor Inn. It has received fresh paint and carpet but has not had all the upgrades made to the other two building. It does have an indoor pool and Jacuzzi. It also has a fitness room though not as big as the main building. The rooms all face Mirror Lake and have balconies or patios and are a bargain for those on a tight budget. While we have not stayed in this building since the change of hands we have used the pool and Jacuzzi and taken a look at the paint and carpet and it looks good.
Overall we have never had any kind of bad experience at High Peaks. We give them high marks for a job well done.

We stayed at the High Peaks Resort this past weekend and loved it. A couple of other times we have stayed at its sister property The Lakeview Motor Inn (nice but not as upscale) but got a deal to stay in the main hotel this time. It was lovely. The room was clean, very clean and every staff member we ran into was friendly and accommodating. We had a view of Mirror Lake and what I think was the former Mount Whitney ski area. The location is great. We walked down to the other side of the town to go to the brew pub and it was a nice walk.
We did not eat at the hotel this time but did have drinks at Dancing Bears. Prices for drinks were reasonable for a resort town and when we have eaten there before the food has been good.
About the only negatives we can come up with are:
Due to being on the corner of Main St and Saranac Ave, it can sometimes be hard to cross the street. Cars don't have to stop coming around the corner and many times are coming rather fast. But that isn't the hotel's fault.
The shower door leaked a little (but did not flood the bathroom floor.) It seemed like it needed a new strip on the bottom. (But we did not inform the hotel of this until after we checked out. It wasn't that big of a deal.)
The ice bucket was not emptied or a new liner left for our second day. (Perhaps an over site and annoying but not horrible.
And finally, a family who had a small child was staying on the same floor with us and didn't seem to care that not everyone gets up at 6:30 am and appreciates little sweetums running and yelling up and down the hall. (Again not the hotel's fault, totally the parents! I have kids and you can tell them to stop.)
None of the negatives were really that bad at all. Loved staying here and would not hesitate to stay again if we can afford it.

I visited the High Peaks Resort with the Hoboken Ski Club this past weekend. There were 48 of us in total and we all had a great time. I personally have not been to the hotel since it was the Hilton, but the renovation to transform it to the High Peaks Resort are beautiful. The rooms are beautiful, beds are SUPER comfy and the bathrooms are luxurious with a rain shower head and even top quality bathroom "condiments." I would also like to mention that the staff is super friendly and helpful.

I UNFORTUNATELY separated my shoulder on Saturday while skiing and one gentleman in particular at the hotel, James (Jim) Coe did everything he could to help make my visit more comfortable and I really appreciated it.

Thanks again to the staff at the High Peaks Resort and especially to Jim. I look forward to visiting again in the near future.. or least after my shoulder heals.

The hotel is right at the end of the main street in Placid. So you're right there by all the shops/restaurants. The hotel is very nice and new. Great gym. We only ate breakfast at the dancing bears (hotel restaurant) and the food was very good. All but one of the front desk people were very friendly when we would walk in from the town. The hotel is about 10 minutes from whiteface, but well worth it to be close to all the shops, btw go to Lake Placid brewery, little hard to find, but great (!!) food and even better brews.

We stayed 2 nights at High Peaks Resort during the kids' school break. The hotel has many pluses : Great location on Main Street, comfortable beds, indoor pool, free Internet. On the other hand, the regular rooms are small (the closet door blocks the washroom door). Our first room was just across from the gym with panoramic windows looking into our room. We asked to be switched to another room to have more privacy and the front desk staff answered our request. The highlight of our stay was definitely the incredible time we had skiing Whiteface Mountain and visiting all the Olympic facilities from the 80's games.
