“Great Family "camping"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

What a relaxing place! Our family really isn't the tent type, so we went in search of a place to stay that would allow our son some fun by a Lake. We rented a 2 bedroom cabin and although old, it was kept up very nicely and very clean. We enjoyed using the rowboats, basketball court, paddleboats, and the grill outside our room added to the outdoor experience we were looking for - eventhough our cabin had a full kitchen. We will definitely be back again and loved walking on the road that led to the Double HH Ranch. The owner was very accomodating and attentive to our needs. Lake Vanare was peaceful and we felt safe letting our son kayak with us behind him. Only thing that would made it better would be kayaks available- we brought our own. If you are looking for a fancy 5 star resort keep traveling on by- and leave this quiet gem for the rest of us.

My fiance has been vacationing here every summer for several years. Now that we're engaged, we vacationed here for the first time together. Wow! Now I know why she chose to stay here and keeps returning.
Clean, comfortable cabin with king-size bed. Air conditioning (or heating), ceiling fan, color cable TV with remote, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, and our cabin (#10) had a kitchenette with a kitchen sink and stove and included all necessary pots & pans, plates, bowls, glasses, coffee cups & silverware. Several other accommodations from which to choose, depending on your needs and the size of your party. Private bathroom with shower and plenty of hot water. Daily housekeeping. Owner lives on premises and is always available. Daily work done to maintain and improve the facility.
Sandy beach on beautiful Lake Vanare. Activities include swimming, fishing, shuffleboard, ping-pong table, foosball table, basketball court & more. BBQ's, picnic tables with umbrellas, lawn chairs, lounge chairs, rowboats, paddleboats, rafts, floats, beach balls, and other toys provided for guests free of charge. Free parking. Fire pit available for evening campfires (minimal charge for firewood). A quiet, comfortable, relaxing place to stay. The village of Lake George and all related activities are about 10 minutes away.
A wonderful place to stay, managed by wonderful people. Like visiting and staying with family. At one point I told my fiance "I miss this place already, and we haven't even left yet!" We will definitely be back to stay here again. We can't wait!

I usually go to the shore for vacation but decided to go to the mountains, for a weekend, for a change of pace. Well, I couldn’t have picked a more perfect place for me and my family. Kastner’s is a great little resort on a small lake (Lake Vanare). There are lots of trees around to sit in the shade and relax. There are row boats and pedal boats to take out on the lake. There was also a lot of fish in the lake for those who like to fish. The lake has a little beach area that is roped off for swimming or playing. The resort supplies sand toys for the kids. There is also a playground that my 4 year old daughter loved. The rooms are nothing fancy but were clean. The location was great, you are close enough to Lake George Village (about 4 miles) yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the village. The only bad thing I can say is that I didn’t stay long enough. I plan to go back next year with my extended family.

we had to book same-day in august when my older son was having a medical emergency at a nearby camp. after being laughed at and hung up on by other motels in the area, miraculously, there was a unit for us here- the woman, Margaret, was VERY accommodating and nice, even though we had to arrive at 10pm (we had let her know we needed to come in late). Room was very clean and had good AC and a fridge, but we were nervous what to expect in the morning.
we were pleasantly surprised- a beautiful lake with boats you can fish from, a section cornered off as a beach with area to BBQ, beach chairs, clean sand and swimming area. There was a supply of sand toys for my boys to use, and there were games available through the office- board games and ping pong, beanbags, a few others. There is a "secret" island my boys absolutely loved exploring for bugs and frogs, right next to the slide and swing set.
Atmosphere is friendly and family-oriented, very nice. Walmart was 15 minutes away for us to buy a fishing rod and supplies. Lake George is also about 15 minutes. Just bring your own towels and soap (ones supplied are tiny/terrible), charcoal and hamburgers for the grill, and you will be set! We will be back again this year!!!!

This resort is a wonderful mix of motels, cabins and housekeeping cabins. We have been visiting this location for the past 11 years. It is well kept. It is small enough to not have to worry about where your children are. It has a roped off swimming area on Lake Vanare. This is a small lake that does not have motor boats on it. They have row boats and pedal boats that are free for guests. The housekeeping cabins are wonderful and clean.

This resort is located five minutes outside Lake George. This makes it convenient to the town but not all the noise. A riding stable is located across the street. The owners live on the premises. It's a wonderful gem.
