“Calm and Authentic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

I spend 10 days in this beautiful place as part of a kitesurfing Trip after being in Mauritius for 5 days. I was supposed to go back to Mauritius after 5 days but decided to extend my stay and forget about Mauritius. Rodrigues' Lagoon is one of the best place I have been kitesurfing so far, huge lagoon and only a few kites even on a "busy" day. If you are looking for a laid back, non-touristy, and authentic destination, Rodrigues is the place. Do not waste time in Mauritius. My stay at Bakwa lodge was very resourcing. Bungalows are facing Rodrigues' Lagoon, the food is delicious, staff friendly, wifi in the Reception area is good considering that you are on a remote island. Each Bungalow has a terrace and an outdoor shower . I would highly recommend this Lodge in Rodrigues.

I have visited a few islands but I must say that Rodrigues Island is now my winner :-) If you're looking calm, no commerce, very few tourists, the beautiful sea, beautiful nature and friendly people, you found the right place. Bakwa Lodge is a wonderful, very precise and well designed hotel with 8 rooms. Rooms are very nice, practical (outdoor shower) and very clean. The hotel staff is very friendly, I felt like at home. Food is very tasty. The most beautiful beach on the island directly below the hotel and quiet. My thanks (very very much) also to Geraldine and Kuba for help in organizing the program and tours for me and a friendly approach. Thank you . . .

This luxury lodge has managed to design a place that co-exists with its authentic natural surroundings. Rather than tear down nature, it built around it and leveraged its natural beauty - starting from its namesake - the Bakwa Tree, which you can find throughout the property. And I've never seen such pride in how the staff cooks, presents and maintains their place. I've lived in Paris for 3 years and yet have had some of my best and most memorable meals siting on the covered deck, looking out over the ocean, as the sun set. I typically like to sleep in but at the first glimpse of light, I had to get up, walk a few steps down to the ocean and walk the beach thinking about nothing and yet everything. This is a true getaway from it all.

Room Tip: All the bungalows face the ocean. Some have slightly better views from their decks, but you can'...

My husband and I and our 18 month old daughter spent a week at Bakwa Lodge in September and absolutely loved it. The rooms, food, location and staff were all fantastic. The lodge has been designed beautifully and has a very homely and friendly atmosphere. Geraldine (the manager) did a brilliant job of looking after everyone and couldn't have been more accommodating. We will definitely be back!

My girlfriend and I spent 4 wonderful days at the Bakwa Lodge in Rodrigues and we were just so happy of our stay. We have been used to hotels (Cotton Bay, Mourouk) and wanted something different. If you are in search of simplicity, good cuisine, farniente and a homy and comfortable accommodation you will not regret it. The lodge is a beach front one which offers a splendid view on the Ocean and the staffs are so hospitable. The lodge is equipped with a nice indoor and outside shower and the bed is divine for a perfect sleep. The wooden terrace is the perfect place if you want to see the moon rising over the ocean..truly spectacular. Ask for Bruno, he will help you and give you some good advice with regards to excursions and activities to be done on the Island. Françoise the Manager of the lodge was there every day conversing with us and giving us some useful tips with regards to buying the best honey and jams on the island. Breakfast is simple and nice with toasts and fresh homemade jam with a choice of eggs offered. Dinner is a 3 course meal and what a great Chef they have there. Pumkin Soup or Roasted Tuna were amazing. The spot of the Bakwa is also great if you want to start kite surfing or do a boat excursion for snorkeling and lunch on Hermitage island! Check out for Tonio on the beach who prepares an amazing Robinson Crusoe BBQ with lobster only 10 minutes walk from the Lodge. Rodrigues is authentic and the Bakwa lodge does offer you this feeling of freedom and discovery....Oh by the way, check out for 'Mignonne' the mascot dog of the lodge who will accompany you for a swim or walk...so cute! We'll be back!!

Room Tip: Greater family units can be made on request!
