“Well improve hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014

I really enjoy my holiday in this hotel. Hard working, honest, trustworthy, caring, approachable, attentive and extrovert staff who give 110% in their job. The food is good and the atmosphere is excellent. On the whole the hotel is doing well. I hope to go back November this year. For the Staff, keep up the hard work and thank you Buba and your entire staff.

Room Tip: Choose double room with air condition.

I have been to gambia many times and stayed in several different hotels this is the worst .I was put in a part of the hotel undergoing a refurbishment there was cockroaches everywhere I complained and was moved to the main block. The new room wasn't much better but without the bugs, room was very noisy at 7 o clock till 10am due to breakfast being served.Iwas there for 10 nights the power was off several times and at least 6 nights at the busy time for people getting ready to go out the water went off Tips to help first time visitors when you change money don't hand over your cash till you count the money he gives you I find the exchange named F and M family halfway up the strip the best.If you need a taxi go to taxis opposite the ali baba and ask for mad max or Charles say alan sent you and they will look after you, both are good guys if you need a phone sorted or any other help .always tell the locals you have visited before because they will try to con you,if you think a story is a con it will be .Don't be put off by my comments it is ok if you use your head. The locals work for about 100 dalasi a day so a tip of 10 to 25 dalasi is ok 25 dalasi is about 40 pence hope info helps you

Room Tip: go to another hotel

Booked this place for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. We've stayed in quite a few hotels in The Gambia but this was by far the worst.
The first room we were shown was in a block that was supposedly being refurbished but after walking through a building site to get to it I think I would have preferred to stay on the building site! Old furniture and bed, dust and dirt everywhere and it smelt of stale mould.
We were then shown another room which was was very cramped, the furniture was falling to bits, the bathroom was terrible and the view from the balcony was a rubbish tip complete with vultures.
The third room was nearly as bad but as it was getting late we agreed to use it until a better alternative could be found. Unfortunately after a couple of days of false promises from both the Reception Manager and the General Manager, sleeping on dirty sheets which the seem to dry on the grass near a rubbish tip, being burnt by hot water coming straight out of the shower tap and receiving an electric shock from the a/c socket on the wall, enough was enough and we moved hotels.
Whilst there we tried the restaurant one night but the food was lukewarm and of a very poor standard, as was the breakfast. We ate out after that.
Location was good in the fact that it was close to the strip but you had to walk down a very sandy track so if you wore sandals your feet were filthy or when you got to the main road you had to take your shoes off to empty the sand out.
In summary, we are not overly fussy and have stayed in in places all around the world, sometimes in shacks, but in comparison to other hotels in the area and the amount they are charging, I would strongly advise people to avoid this excuse for a hotel.

Room Tip: Try another hotel!

This is a smaller hotel but does not lack in quality. The staff here are super friendly and will sort out trip out with there friends they know and at good prices. The bar area by reception always has great staff. The pool area is fantastic and shows up some of the more established bigger resorts. The rooms are very tidy. Any valuables can be securley locked away. It was exteamly good value for money.

My third stay at this hotel , on the way to airport having been 'up country' to work with a charity. It is OK for this purpose - a hot shower and electricity is the height of luxury!
Rooms are adequate, food is getting better.
We were too tired to go out and were impressed with the local drumming/singing/stilt-walking troupe who entertained us during dinner.
It was ridiculous to stand for well over 10 minutes waiting to be able to check out, due to the manager berating the reception staff for not being attentive to customers!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgraded room, with a lock that works!

The hotel has undergone a face lift and still is for two blocks. It lifts it towards the three star category foe facilities.
Staff very friendly and do their best but suffer from an ineffectual General Manager and Owner's rep without any interpersonal skills.
Breakfasts often not ready on time and missing food items.
Menu for lunch and/or dinner reads well but is partly fictional.
No telephones in the rooms and no alternative means of escape from first floor rooms if the one stair case is blocked.

Room Tip: go for "E" block
