“Nice hotel!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

I've stayed in this hotel twice, during Easter holiday and end of June. It was lovely both times. The room rate was half price in June though. I love their breakfast buffet which is included in the room rate. The ground is nicely maintained and rooms are spacious. The water pressure in the shower was wonderful and air conditioning worked really well. The staff were very helpful. Only downsides were that the beach is not nice to swim in, but they have a nice sized pool to make up for it with comfy lounging chairs. and there is no Wifi available inside the rooms, only in the lobby area. However, I had 3G on my phone, so it did not bother me so much. Overall, I loved my stay in this hotel, and would definitely come back if I can!!

I stayed here on a business trip.arriving in the middle of the night. I found all the staff very nice - the waiting staff at breakfast were particularly friendly. I ate almost all my meals in the hotel for convenience. The breakfasts are quite good, a good variety of options. The Casa Fernando restaurant is quite good, I enjoyed the local African dishes the most. My room was quite basic, as I said it was a business trip so I think the rooms in the grounds are nicer. Not much to watch in terms of TV. The shower did not drain well, so there was always water lying in it. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained and there are always plenty of staff around, including security staff, so if you walk down to the beach at night it feels quite safe - this is the nicest time, to see the waves under the stars and you don't see the eroded beach etc. The reception was efficient in terms of arranging check out etc and I had airport transfers with the hotel bus which was comfortable and efficient.
I can't really fault the Kairaba - it is certainly not 5 star, but is nice and the staff are excellent.

Room Tip: The rooms in the grounds are nicer and have a view.

I stayed with a friend of mine April 2013. The swimming pool is great and the staff very nice. The grounds are kept well.

Big downside is the beach, it is very corroded and not a place you would want to sunbathe.

Breakfast is good , with a vast selection.

There is no WiFi in the rooms or pool area - only the lobby.

Rooms are well kept. Not 5 Star more like 3.

As another reviewer says, avoid the rooms near the entrance, which are motel-like (albeit cheaper) and which I hear are Thomas Cook's standard fare.

We had a suite, which was excellent, and booked through the Gambia Experience company who are well-regarded in The Gambia and have very good local staff and their office next door in the Senegambia hotel.

The poolside café food was a little bland compared to outside restaurants, perhaps because it caters for the less-adventurous types who keep to the hotel. The breakfast had incredible variety and must surely please every nationality under the sun - top marks for that. The Don Fernando restaurant which is on the edge of the site was better than expected - not as bland as the café food, and there was an excellent local singer and band on the night we ate there - really good quality and not too loud - perfect.

Restaurant, cleaning and security staff are friendly and seem well-trained. Reception staff were excellent - especially Babbucar (probably not spelling that right).

We had a leaking air conditioning unit, which was VERY rapidly attended to. The bed, pillows, thick (light blocking) curtains and modern air conditioning were as good as anything I've experienced across the world. I normally take days to get comfortable, but not here...slept like a log from day 1.

Pools and grounds are excellent and home to peacocks, salamanders, monitor lizards etc - and are visited twice daily by a troupe on monkeys who play in the trees and hedges. The hotel thoughtfully provide a big bird table at the same height as the upper floor terrace so you can eat your breakfast while watching the local birds have theirs. Come to think of it, the birds were much more well-mannered - even in this standard of hotel you could spot people sneaking their lunch out from the breakfast offer, shame on you! And on the man who passed his pieces of melon to the chef cooking the eggs etc and asked him to cut it up into smaller pieces. If you're reading this, fellow-Brit, just try and remember that the Empire is long gone........

The Hotel is both a beach resort and business hotel so as well as a great beach and pool area, there is a great array of food and good quality wi-fi for free.
The "Standard" rooms are located by the entrance and more like what you'd expect from a cheap motel and situated near the main entrance so it's worth paying the extra for a deluxe room which are more what you'd expect for a hotel of this rating.
The location is perfect and if you're going to Kololi, the Kairaba or Senegambia hotels are the best places to stay

Room Tip: Standard rooms are like a 2 star motel and in a separate annex to the hotel - to look at them you...

Ton of reviews, not surprising as this is a big hotel doing a trade in package travel. Preeminent establishment in town, with the infrastructure to do meeting, large group events. Was quiet during this non-high season stay. Facility itself a little dated, but well-kept and was built to first-class standard. Big negatives are lack of wifi in rooms (they're 'working' on upgrading), bit of a hike given the size of the spread-out grounds, and location is in front of ocean where there is essentially no beach. Buffet meals basic affairs. Staff though is professional and judging by the competition, the Karaiba had first call on personnel hires in this country. Doesn't guarantee friendliness all the time though. IF you're travelling independently, smaller, less impersonal hotel than the Karaiba might be preferable. Very good environment for families though.

Staff at the Kariba Beach Hotel are so friendly, always have a big smile for you. The reception was efficient, but the connectivity for the credit card machine was a bit problematic. The breakfast was a bit of a let down, quite basic things on offer and some items were not the freshest. The food from the restaurant by the pool was very nice. The pool area was well managed with fresh towels on hand. The rooms were a fair size and clean. A bowl of fruit and bottle of wine awaited us on arrival. The beach area has been eroded quite badly and you have to walk up the beach a bit to get to the water. On the whole a pleasant stay.
