I had the misfortune to have a 2 day reservation at Gurgussum. When we arrived at the "resort" we asked laughing to our guide if it was a trick because we can't believe that it was the place where we have had to spend two days. But the worst arrived when the staff showed us the rooms: a decadent residuate of early seventies. Kilos of dust everywhere, toilet flush broken, no toilet paper, no towels, shower broken, huge traces of dirty and rust everywhere, neon lamps pending from the ceilings, pigeons nest in the air conditioning machines (of course not working), open and broken manholes seeded as traps everywhere in the courtyard, the "so called" beach a sort of rubbish dump. The best arrived when we started to take pictures to have evidence of this disaster (our intention was to leave immediately and have a remboursement from the tour operator): the staff immediately pushed us off the rooms closing the door and threaten us with ridicolous menaces about the fact that taking pictures was forbidden (in an hotel...??). Of course we left immediately this sort of penal colony and chose another hotel in Massawa. Lately we were informed that a lot of tourists literally ran away from this horrible place also for the wide presence of cockroaches and rats. The strong suggestion is to avoid in all manners a place like this..
