“Stayed there for husband's 50th Class Reunion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

We throughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We were on the 5th floor (room 554) last night and had a lovely clean well appointed room with a beautiful view of the lake. The room was large and had everything we could need. Other friends were in adjoining rooms on the 5th floor so we had an afterparty (& pre-party) in other rooms. They were all different! One had a large dining room table and chairs. That was perfect for setting out snacks/drinks pre and post buffet. On the lake side of the hotel there was a large veranda/patio with plenty of wicker chairs for us to all get together before dinner. The hotel had a very large bar area which they used for a Sunday morning buffet which we all enjoyed before departing. ALL of the staff were very agreeable and friendly and made our visit special. We all agreed we'd do it again!

Room Tip: get a delux room with a view of the lake if you go

Fort William Henry Hotel is a great place for a little quiet get-a -way during the off season. Leasurely meals overlooking the Lake, Friendly staff, We plan on coming up again during the summer and staying again at this hotel. I will update the review with a "busy " season review.

Room Tip: I would venture to say that Lake view rooms would need advance reservations during the summer.

Stayed at the Fort William Henry over the summer, our room was on the 5th floor facing the lake. We had two queen size beds and a queen sofa bed. The location of this hotel in excellent you can walk down to the boardwalk from the back of the hotel and retreat back with great convenience. There are 2 pools on the property both indoor and outdoor. Overall was a nice stay however very expense due to the peek summer time. Next time I would rather stay at the Sagamore for the amount we payed here.

The pool was the best part of the hotel. The wifi sucked horribly kept going in and out very slow.
The dresser had lots of scratches on it. The staff was very grumpy.
When we made our reservation we were told we could pay cash at check out only to find out that we couldn't.
But on The plus side the indoor pool was very comfortable the hot tub wasn't to warm and the kids loved it.....
The stuff in the store up front (snacks) were very over priced..

We stayed in this place for just one night, and that was enough.

The room we were given was cold and the heater didn't work. We asked them to fix it, and they sent a crew to fix it for more than half an hour while we were in the room. They refused to give us another room.

We then left, and when we came back they said it had been fixed. But the room was still cold and the heater still not working.

They again sent the maintenance people, who admitted it wasn't working. They finally agreed to give us another room, where the head worked only moderately well (we were still cold).

When we asked for a refund, they refused!

Stayed here for New Year's Eve this year and by the time we left we decided we would be coming back next year. Staff were polite and informative and made us feel like we were at home. The room was comfortable and fit all of our needs. The location is perfect as it sits right on the south end of the lake and a lot of things are extremely close (although some stores are closed in the off season there was a lot still open). There were fireworks over the lake that everyone watched from the back porch and it was a great show. As I said, we would absolutely recommend this hotel, and plan on returning.

We recently had the blessing of attending a concert in Glens Falls, NY so we thought we would stay at this resort and take advantage of the off season rates. We had booked a room with a jacuzzi, the off/on knob of which snapped off when it was being used. The heating system is such that every time the heat came on, it was so loud that it kept us awake most of the night. Also the walls are quite thin because we were able to hear others and their tv in the room either right next door or one floor beneath us. The in room fridge was useless because the dial to turn it on and control the temp appeared to be broke because it just turned and turned. Also, one of the lights on one side of the bed did not work at all. I am also certain that my husband contracted food poisoning when we ate at the restaurant in the hotel. During this time of year the hotel is only open on the weekends, so I think the mushrooms that they used in the omelette had gone bad. Was thinking of paying full price when we go back in June for a wedding but decided to book somewhere else as there are plenty of hotels and motels in the area.

Dear Lovetoskinewyork,
It is disturbing to read these detrimental words after the effort our staff puts in daily. However, your critique will help other travelers make informed decisions.

Your comments concerning our restaurant have been passed along to our food service management. Although, this past winter we were mostly opened just weekends, our food was order fresh each week for delivery on Friday. We have contacted our vendor for case numbers and a history of any problems.

As an FYI, If you ever have any questions, concerns or guest room issues, simply ask a Fort William Henry associate or ask for a manager. Ours are on call 24/7. We are here to serve you. Whether it is Fort William Henry or another reputable hotel, we can’t help you unless you let us know there is a problem. Giving the hotel a chance to understand, identify, and correct the issue or concern is always a better choice than a negative review after the fact.

Again, thank you for your comments. We hope to see you again in the future.

Sincerely,
Sam Luciano
General Manager
