“Pleasant Surprise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2005

We stayed at the Lake George Best Western from September 8 - 11, 2005. We booked a room with two double beds before I read any of these reviews. I was so nervous. We were not just staying for one day but for four. Plus, we have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. Smelly and dirty was not what I wanted. And I am very particular. Well, the room was exactly what we had reserved. And, best of all, it was very clean and did not have any bad smell in it or in the hall. It was not a "luxury" hotel but at $99 a night, you can't expect that. We were very comfortable, happy, and satisfied. We even used the indoor pool on one of the days. Another bonus for us, was that we went for the Adirondack Nationals and the hotel was close enough to the town to be convenient but far enough away that my children and I could get a good night's sleep. We will definitely stay there again.

We had booked the Best Western in Lake George, NY 7/21/05 before reading the reviews about it. We were fearful of what it was going to be like based on the reviews. However, our experience was not as bad as the reviews indicated. Could be that they improved and updated since the reviews, which were dated 2004. My only problem was the smell in the hallways. They just had new carpeting put in and it smelled of a combination of new carept and hot sweat. New carpeting in the room as well was quite strong. But better new carpet than old ratty carpet. Everything was clean, roomy (2 qn deluxe). Outdoor pool was big. Kids loved it and the indoor pool, although that was small. Would stay there again for $99/night, which was the mid-week special we paid...Thursday night and Friday night.

My family was quite upset when we got to the Best Western of Lake George and the suite which we reserved and guaranteed didnt even exist. They said this sometimes happens as a computer error, but it should NOT happen with such a large successful chain. The manager and girls behind the desk were friendly and tried to help find a solution, and gave us connecting rooms, but that was NOT what we reserved or needed, and we could have booked 2 rooms to begin with if we wanted to. We ended up needing to leave after one night, and found a place that did satisfy our needs. As far as the rooms, they were fine if you are looking for a clean place to stay. The place is overpriced if you consider it is not really walking distance to Lake George Village, and has no water access. We didnt find problems with noise or cleanliness as described above. It is an adequate place to stay if just passing through, but after this experience, I strongly suggest a place on or near the lake for a true Lake George experience.

My husband and I spent a night at this standard, uninspired, older motel early in October 2004. Although there is a no smoking policy throughout the hotel, our room reeked with cigarette smoke to the point that we had to change to another one. The only bright spot was the friendly, helpful, competent desk staff.

The hotel rates looked very appealing when we first booked it. When we got there, we realized that you get what you pay for (in this case, less). The room smelled moldy and felt grimey. The bathroom could have been cleaner, too. The pool had broken concrete around it - an accident waiting to happen! Although the staff seemed somewhat friendly and the food wasn't bad, we will not be returning here.

We had an "upgraded" more expensive room because we did not book way in advance. From previous reviews, I expected somthing terrible; but the upgraded room was OK. But there was a window problem; only one opened & that one did not have a screen. The soundproofing also seemed almost non-existant. One also had to be very careful with the water in the shower; the slightest move in adjusting the water would change the temperature dramatically where one could get scalded or very cold. The Hotel location was very good, right off the exit from the Northway.

Stayed here for a weekend in Feb which we have done a few times over the years and the place has deteriorated each time. At first we thought it was just due to the increased number of snowmobilers. This trip however, it reached the pits and will be our last. Forget about sleeping. Paper thin walls (we actually could hear someone crumpling a piece of paper next door),kids using the hallways for track meets, snowmobilers roaming door to door getting "lubed up" for the next ride, and finally the roar of those mighty engines at the crack of dawn outside your window make sleep impossible here. Get a parking place early too. Half of them are taken up by sleds and trailers and most of the rest by the giant, he-man pickups towing them. And then there were the dogs! $110 a night to be woken up in in the middle of the night by barking dogs. There were at least 4 staying in our vicinity. They did add color to the snow banks along side each entrance where their owners took them to relieve themselves. I'm surprised they took them outside... My wife was caught in the middle of a dog fight Sun morning in the lobby while trying to fight her way to the coffee!! All in all, better to pitch a tent in the nearby woods than ever stay here again.

The Best Western of Lake George, as well as all Best Westerns, go through rigorous inspections about every six months. These inspections are done by numerous travel related companies. These include AAA, Mobil, County and State inspectors, and Best Western International. This Best Western property has continuously scored very high in all areas on every inspection. This award is for cleanliness that exceeds the guest expectations, brand standards and national levels. When operating any physical plant, - equipment failures and building issues will arise. We judge our management team on how fast, and how well they handle these issues. They always recieve exemplary grades. We apologize to this guest for having a less than satisfactory stay. Had we've been aware of the problems, we would have corrected them.
