“Great value, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

My girlfriend and I stayed here 8/6-8/8 and can't say enough about how friendly, professional, appreciative and attentive the owners were to us. The room was exactly what expected- clean and charming. The pool area was the same. We especially liked that we could walk out of room, and go straight downtown without having to drive everywhere.

We look forward to our next getaway to Lake George, and you can count on us returning to your motel.

August in Lake George is crazily expensive for budget travellers but if you are looking for location, this is as good as it gets. You are at the beginning of the "strip" so great for walking, close to lake front etc etc. WiFi is available but not a strong signal and the place has changed ownership so I noticed the outdoor pool does not have a cover at night like before to keep it less cool for morning dips but now it is cooooooold. We still like it so we will definitely be back.

Thank you for staying with us again and thank you for taking the time to write a second review of the hotel. We are very pleased that you returned and that you will return again. Likewise, we are very pleased that you found value in our pricing and in our amenities.

With respect to the WiFi signal, during the 2011 offseason, we equipped both buildings and the pool with routers throughout and, on the whole, the system works well. Nonetheless, there are several spots where the signal is weaker than others. We contacted the person who equipped the property last season and we are working on a plan for the offseason. From what I understand, this should be a relatively easy fix.

With respect to the pool cover, we no longer cover the pool out of fear of someone suffocating in the cover or falling on the mechanism that rolls the cover on and off. According to our insurance company, the presence of a pool cover substantially increases the likelihood of an overnight drowning. Additionally, the rather large metal mechanism that rolls the cover on and off was previously stored near walkways where children (and adults) run around. It was only a matter of time before someone tripped and fell. We thought that it was best to do away with the cover before someone got hurt.

We booked this motel because it was the most reasonably priced room we could find in the area. The room we stayed in was pretty outdated and in need of some updating. All of that is fine in my book if the place is clean, which it was. My two complaints are:
1. not enough outlets. As with many older properties, there was only one outlet located across the room from the beds. Which isn't convenient when you have multiple devises to plug in
2. We stayed in a room with two queen beds. One of the mattresses wasn't plush but it was fine. The other was horribly lumpy.
Maybe it was just the room we stayed in but that was our experience

Thank you for staying with us and thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. We are very proud that the Motel Montreal provided the most reasonably priced room in the area. You make a great point about the wall outlets. We are adding outlets to the rooms as we renovate but, for the time being, we can provide you with power strips upon request. With respect to the bed, we are rotating new beds into our inventory annually but, along with the renovations and the new furniture, this is a time consuming and expensive process. Thank you for staying with us and we hope that you will return next year to see all of the improvements that we are making for the 2013 season.

The Motel Montreal is located on a quiet road immediately off the main strip in town, and is about a 2 minute walk to Lake George. We stayed two nights and found the hotel to be a great value, very comfortable and very clean. There is also a large pool for guests as well as plenty of BBQ facilities. But the best thing about our stay were the owners who were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about things to do in the area. I would definitely stay there again and plan to do so when I return to Lake George in the near future. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Call ahead if you have any questions. The owners are very helpful.

After reading a number of reviews, we zeroed in on this motel for few reasons -
A. Prime time summer rates were crazy and comparatively reasonable rates allowed us to squueze in extra days
B. it was our first time in lake George and we were planning to be out most times, so a basic place made sense

After spending 4 nights, following is a detailed assessment. While going through pros and cons, one must keep in my the cost of accommodation, which is certainly on lower side.

PROS:
1. Owners, who are friendly, efficient and go out of the way to make your stay comfortable. They know the town and their stuff, and can be approached for any assistance, questions or recommendations. Reliable.
2. Fridge, microwave and coffee machine in every room adds to convenience and helps save a few $$$
3. Clean swimming pool and reasonably clean rooms
4. Accessibility....it's walkable to village - around 10-15 min depending on your pace. Village area has plenty of eateries, park, beach etc.

CONS:
1. Beds...certainly one of the least comfortable beds I have ever slept on.
2. Room size...very small. With a queen and a double, there was hardly any room to walk
3. Plug points are inaccessible and it's pain to charge devices etc
4. While on map it seems very close to the lake, there is no access point (since its private). So you need to walk 15 min to hit the lake.

As mentioned earlier, cons can be largely overlooked given the price you are paying. However, when I decided to extend my stay another 2 days, I decided to move into a lake access motel which I will review shortly. It's as much value for money as motel montreal is. Needless to say, you shell out around 40-50 additional bucks per night :)

Thank you for staying with us and thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. We are very glad that you found value in your stay and that you enjoyed our recommendations. One of our team's goals is to deliver savings through discounted tickets to local attractions, coupons to local restaurants and money saving amenities such as the fridge and microwave and free WiFi.

With respect to the beds, we replaced approximately 15 beds after last season and we will be replacing more after this season. With 40 rooms, we have in excess of 85 beds at the hotel and it is financially unfeasible to replace all of the mattresses and boxsprings in a given year plus engage in our renovations. Nevertheless, we are working on delivering all new bedding over the course of the next two seasons.

With respect to lake access points, there is a public beach located at the end of our street about a 200 foot or 2 minute walk from the hotel.

With respect to the size of the rooms, we will be reconfiguring some of the furniture in the offseason to make better use of the space allotted but unfortunately, the square footage available in any given room will remain the same. Ultimately, as you accurately noted, guests save $40 to $50 per night with us but lose a few square feet of space.

Thanks again for staying with us and we hope to see you back at the Motel Montreal!

All the best,

Rob Gregor

My husband and I came back from spending 2 nights at Motreal and we couldn't be happier. The owners Rob and Nerisha were super friendly and very laid back. Our room was very clean and spacious and the location was close to the beach where we rented kayaks. The pool was clean and the other guests were enjoying themselves just as much as we did. Everyone was having a relaxing and enjoyable time. We used the outside grills to make our own bbq and ate in the fresh moutain air most of our meals. Overall, it was a great find and we are delighted that we found a great place in teh beautiful Lake George region. We'll be back!

My family & I made our way up to Lake George last weekend for a 2 night stay. Looking for a place to stay, we came upon the Motel Montreal up at the end of the strip. We were delighted at the friendliness.of the owners, Rob & Nerisha at the front desk. No attitude what so ever from these two, as we had experienced at other places on the lake in recent years. Our room had a 32" flat screen, and was super clean and neat -- with a fridge & microwave to boot. The in ground pool was very clean, with a relaxing feel to the pool area. I was pleasantly surprised at the conduct & behavior of the other guest at poolside. No riff raff or hard partiers-- just families enjoying the great weather. Rob & Nerisha took the time to chat with their guest, introducing us to their beautiful son, Joey, who was quite the little charmer himself. The Motel was within walking distance to the beach (about 200 ft down the road), and also to the village. That was important with gas prices being so high -- we parked the SUV and left it there at the motel all weekend. If your looking for a place with all the bells and whistles, this isn't it. But if your just looking for a no attitude, clean, well kept place to stay, I'd highly recommend the Motel Montreal, and their family friendly prices. My family had a great stay there, and have all intentions of staying there every year now. Many thanks to Rob, Nerisha, and Joey for making us feel at home. Oh yeah, the prices are just fantastic, and can fit anyone's budget.

Thank you for staying with us and thank you for taking the time to review the Motel Montreal. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay and that you will return. Joseph (our little guy) was especially charming those nights and dad (me) looks forward to the day when he is ready to take control of the front desk while I lounge by the pool (or bet the ponies at Saratoga). Thanks again for staying with us and we hope to see you here soon!
