“Like Camping in Comfort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2008

Located on the quieter side of Lake George (on Rt 9L) Dunham's Bay gave us the feeling of staying in a decent hotel room mixed with the outdoor fun of camping! We had a 2 bedroom/2 bath "cabin", more like a hotel suite, that was spacious and clean. Although it was a bit pricey, it was worth it. The kitchen was well stocked with all we needed to make lunch or dinner (except the food of course) and that helped us save a few bucks by not having to eat out all the time. Plus the grounds are so beautiful and quiet that enjoying a meal as a family outdoors was a pleasure! And at the night the staff lights a fire pit that was safe and cozy to sit by while the kids roasted marshmallows.

My wife and I were able to let our 2 daughters (10 & 6) play in either of the 2 shady green playgrounds that faced our cabin...while we relaxed! In addition, the indoor pool and hot tub were large and clean, with plenty of toys for the kids and lots of towels. You have to cross the street to get to the lake, but the road is rarely busy and it's very safe. The beach was small and there was a bit of a hornet problem the first day. There is a nice shaded lawn to hang out on if you don't want to be in the sand. And the kids loved swimming in the lake.

Lastly, the staff was terrific. Lynn escorted us to our cabin upon check-in and made sure we had everything we needed, including offering us discount passes to Great Escape! The rooms were cleaned daily and everything around the place was kept in great shape. It was obvious that they really care and take pride in what they do. It was our first trip to Lake George and as great as the area is, the biggest reason we'll be coming back is to stay at Dunham's Bay!

When my wife and I arrived at the Dunham's bay my first thought was what a dump. We had a Lakeview cabin, but the room smelled and it needed to be totally gutted.

There is an ok beach which is good for small children, but they do not own the beach, and you must cross a road, although that was not a problem.

Breakfast was ok, but the dinners were pretty bad. To be fair, there does not seem like there are many places that are really nice with beach access in the entire Lake George Area.

However, the location is convenient and the area of the hotel is very beautiful.

The resort does have potential, and apparently the new owners are putting money into it.

We're a family with three kids, and on paper, Dunham Bay looked exactly like what we wanted. a beach, a pool, online access, playground for the kids, and suites with 2 bedrooms.

What we found was:
-The people running it are really nice
- The beach is not owned by the hotel, is across the highway, and is really not worth visiting (it's a 100 foot sandy area surrounded by boats and bees)
- The pool is freezing
- The internet access barely worked throughout a 3 day stay
- The playground was nice--it was perfect for young kids
- The rooms are fine, though small and kind of campy--if you're expecting the type of accomodations you'd get in a 3-star hotel--these aren't it.

Overall, we were a bit disappointed, but the management is keen and hopefully some of these kinks can be worked out. I would consider going back at a rate that was more reflective of the value received.

We used Dunham’s Bay to cater our wedding reception at our home on Lake George at the end of July. It was an outdoor reception for about 100 people.

The flexibility and willingness to work with us on our vision of the day was a key reason we selected DB. We had a sense of the style of the food and the timing of the day. Mark Childe, at Dunham’s Bay, took this and translated it into the perfect catered event. Mark is a true professional.

Our guests are still talking about how good the food was. The day of the wedding we were able to enjoy ourselves and not worry about our guests as we could see they were being taken care of.

As we had limited parking, DB provided a shuttle driver so guests could utilize the hotel parking. Many of the guests commented on how friendly the shuttle driver was! Many of our guests stayed at Dunham’s Bay as well.

We held our wedding here this past weekend, and it was wonderful! They paid attention to every detail and us feel extremely comfortable. They went above and beyond what we ever thought for our wedding. We were given a cabin suite for two nights at no charge, our breakfast was free, and they were exceptionally warm to our guests. Every one of our guests was blown away by how prepared, generous and accommodating the staff were. The food was terrific!! We had BBQ chicken, pulled pork, sausage with peppers and onions, potatoes, fresh green beans, garden salad, pasta salad and baked beans for our menu, and everyone complimented how delicious it was! We couldn't have imagined our wedding day being more perfect.

  • Liked — The bed!!! It was extremely comfortable.
  • Disliked — how small the bathroom was.

We stayed only 2 days for a family getaway, but we pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. Newly renovated, close to Lake George Village and most of acitizevities on site. Pool was a good size, you didn't feel on top of anyone else (hot tub also!)
Beach rights across the street. Pool table, with modern bar room downstairs of the restaurant. The restaurant had lovely views of the lake whether it was for breakfast or dinner!!!!

Front desk, as well as any staff member, were extremely pleasant and helpful. They set up some excursions for us right from the front desk.

Would DEFINITELY stay again, if going up that direction.

My wife and I spent a long weekend at Dunham's Bay in mid July. We had a wonderful time and the staff was amazingly friendly. The resort is on a quiet cove, and it's only a 5 minute drive from the downtown area. Great if you want access to the "touristy" parts of Lake George without having to deal with it 24/7. Prior to arriving, I called and asked if there was a spa at or near the resort. The manager (her name escapes me) said that they did not have a spa, but would look into our options. Sure enough, when we arrived they had researched spas in the area and provided us with prices and info on 3 options. The staff also meet every other request with a smile. We stayed in a hotel room, not in a cabin. The room was clean and the decor was up-to-date. There is a nice patio and pool area where we they'll bring you lunch, drinks, or anything off their menu. The restaurant menu is vast and they'll make anything on the menu from early in the morning til late at night. The beach, (which is literally across the street) is small, but clean and uncrowded. Overall, it's a great place to stay if you're looking for a quiet retreat with friendly, accommodating service.
