We had incredible dinner and breakfast meals in The Lodge. The price of dinner was well in line with what the night entailed and a great deal. Your table is your for the entire evening! Dinner here is wonderful from the standpoint of not being rushed and being able to enjoy the experience of simply being there. We began our evening in the Rathskeller where Ernest literallly walked us through an expansive beer selection in his wine/beer cellar off of the Rathskeller helping us choose something dark and chocolate in flavor. What an amazing selection of wine and beer! While we were choosing our beverage of choice we could smell the wonderful aroma of dinner preparations from upstairs. Walking back into the Rathskeller we settled into comfortable chairs in front of a roaring fire while Ernest went through the appetizers that we were looking at on the menu. We decided on a salmon potato pancake w/caviar appetizer which was scrumptious. I do believe we could have had several orders of those for dinner they were so good!!! Cathy came downstairs and gave us a very detailed outline of what our dinner choices were to include how each was made, where many of the ingrediants originated from (many locally), and answered several questions we had with regard to the dishes. Dinner upstairs in the main dining room was a relaxing experience as the ambience is set with beautiful music and equally beautiful decor that is actual structure of the building and decorations that have been placed over time. The soup that we had was a wonderful chicken soup bursting with flavor followed with salad that had a dressing that contained freshly squeezed orange juice. It was a very fresh citrus taste that brought the flavors of the salad forward. We had perch and and veal schnitzel for entrees. Both were amazing as well as the sides. The vegetables were fresh and cooked perfectly. We had red cabbage that was some of the best we have had.
The spatzle was incredible. Lighter than most we have had bringing the flavor of the sauce out. Homemade dessert selection were equally a treat and again homemade. Breakfasts consisted of homemade raspberry pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage, muffins, scones, toast and of course fresh squeezed orange juice. It is clear from both Ernest and Cathy the pride they have in what they do and how well they show it. Their collective passion for the lodging accomodations, culinary art and the entertainment of guests is so very clear as it comes through in everything that they do from Ernest's Rathskeller introduction to a unique culinary and relaxing evening on to Cathy's introduction to the specially prepared meals that she creates. GREAT EXPERIENCE! WILL RETURN.
