“Custom dining in an Old World setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

We had incredible dinner and breakfast meals in The Lodge. The price of dinner was well in line with what the night entailed and a great deal. Your table is your for the entire evening! Dinner here is wonderful from the standpoint of not being rushed and being able to enjoy the experience of simply being there. We began our evening in the Rathskeller where Ernest literallly walked us through an expansive beer selection in his wine/beer cellar off of the Rathskeller helping us choose something dark and chocolate in flavor. What an amazing selection of wine and beer! While we were choosing our beverage of choice we could smell the wonderful aroma of dinner preparations from upstairs. Walking back into the Rathskeller we settled into comfortable chairs in front of a roaring fire while Ernest went through the appetizers that we were looking at on the menu. We decided on a salmon potato pancake w/caviar appetizer which was scrumptious. I do believe we could have had several orders of those for dinner they were so good!!! Cathy came downstairs and gave us a very detailed outline of what our dinner choices were to include how each was made, where many of the ingrediants originated from (many locally), and answered several questions we had with regard to the dishes. Dinner upstairs in the main dining room was a relaxing experience as the ambience is set with beautiful music and equally beautiful decor that is actual structure of the building and decorations that have been placed over time. The soup that we had was a wonderful chicken soup bursting with flavor followed with salad that had a dressing that contained freshly squeezed orange juice. It was a very fresh citrus taste that brought the flavors of the salad forward. We had perch and and veal schnitzel for entrees. Both were amazing as well as the sides. The vegetables were fresh and cooked perfectly. We had red cabbage that was some of the best we have had.
The spatzle was incredible. Lighter than most we have had bringing the flavor of the sauce out. Homemade dessert selection were equally a treat and again homemade. Breakfasts consisted of homemade raspberry pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage, muffins, scones, toast and of course fresh squeezed orange juice. It is clear from both Ernest and Cathy the pride they have in what they do and how well they show it. Their collective passion for the lodging accomodations, culinary art and the entertainment of guests is so very clear as it comes through in everything that they do from Ernest's Rathskeller introduction to a unique culinary and relaxing evening on to Cathy's introduction to the specially prepared meals that she creates. GREAT EXPERIENCE! WILL RETURN.

“Very nice restaurant...a tad expensive for what you receive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

I have no complaints, everything was excellant and enjoyed by all. Great beer selection in the beer cellar.
Only negative comment is that at $45 per plate it is a bit high.

“An experience to say the least...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2011

Where to start... The sleigh ride was amazing, but they were from Plattsburgh, so does that even count? The atmosphere is a quaint lodge, but quaint is an understatement. I felt as though I was in my grandmother's basement with the stuffed animals and the wallpaper. There is basically a prie fix menu and it was strange how everyone in the whole restaurant got the same soup and salad. Actually I take that back, the table next to us got "last night's" salad which looked MUCH better. The soup tasted like water (chicken and dumplings) and the salad was okay. Now for dinner, the salmon was awful. Honestly I will eat anything, but I kept wondering if anyone in the kitchen tasted the seasonings that they used? I had to scrape it off and couldn't stomach it. Then I never use salt and pepper and had to immediately on everything else on the plate, and I still couldn't enjoy it. How do you mess up rice and steamed vegetables is beyond me. The price was outrageous for the low quality of food. To top it off, they owner was a little demanding and rude after his in depth repetitive speech when ordering our food and we had about 6 waitresses throughout the night. Will definitely NOT be going back and have already told numerous people about just how bad the food was.

“Felt like having a gourmet dinner at your best friend's cabin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2011

We first enjoyed an amazing sleigh ride with Pete the horse, who took us through the woods and to an enchanting lake view. The host/bar tender was very accommodating and his knowledge of the menu was impressive. Our appetizers were prepared perfectly! The salmon schnitzel was one of the best dinners I have ever had, an the unique family style atmosphere only improved the meal. Being an avid micro-brew and wine connoisseur from the pacific northwest, I was blown away by the selection of imported wine and beer in the cellar. I was delighted by the sampler plate, which had a nice selection of fresh game sausage and some of the best beef stroganoff I've ever had. The Strudel for dessert was noteworthy as well.
