“Great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

I've enjoyed staying at this location several times. The staff are always the best for friendliness and service. Although the immediate surroundings are somewhat drab, there is a Tim Hortons a short walk away at a gas station and an outlet store close by. Great access to the city and ideal for getting to Sabers or Bills games.

In the middle of a long road trip from the US Southeast to central Ontario, I stopped off overnight at this outwardly modest-looking hotel, located on a busy thoroughfare in a remote, nondescript industrial/commercial area just south of Buffalo. To my surprise and gratification, the accommodations and atmosphere far exceeded my expectations. The Best Western Plus the Inn of Lackawanna may not qualify as upscale or luxurious, but I found it to be relatively clean, well run, and solidly down-to-earth, providing excellent accommodations for road-weary travelers, whether on business or a family outing or just passing through.

Although there is not much to do or see within walking distance, the hotel is very conveniently located for motorists. It is situated fairly close to several New York State Thruway exits (#55, 56, 57) and it’s just a few minutes’ drive along the Hamburg Turnpike to downtown Buffalo and the Peace Bridge into Canada. The hotel offers ample parking, a large and pleasant lobby area that doubles as a breakfast venue, a good-sized elevator, and friendly, helpful front desk personnel. Guests have use of a fitness center, a fax & copier, and a swimming pool, and they can pick up a free newspaper (USA Today) at the desk.

My second-floor room facing the back was quiet and truly huge, with attractive, comfortable furnishings and decor. It featured a fridge, a flat panel TV, free wi-fi with a strong signal, a data port -- Ethernet cables are available at the front desk -- an adequate closet, and ample drawer space. The extensive furnishings included an upholstered easy chair with a matching footstool (on wheels for easy maneuvering), a desk and office chair, an end table, and a good bed. There was also an electric alarm clock, as well as an easy-to-use heating/cooling system with digital temperature control, three stand-alone lamps, a coffee maker, and an ice bucket to use at the ice dispenser down the hall. The only item missing was an in-room safe for valuables, although safe deposit boxes are available at the front desk.

The bathroom was clean and roomy, with a large working area around the sink, fairly quick hot water at all hours, good bathtub/shower, and plenty of soap and towels. Amenities included washcloths, hair dryer, and tissue dispenser, although no shower cap.

I make this trip fairly often and usually stop for the night at one hotel or another on the outskirts of Buffalo, but never anywhere that I would go back to -- until now. Having discovered the many virtues of the Best Western Plus at Lackawanna, I will definitely plan to stay there in the future every time I pass through the Buffalo area.

Walked in, and after glancing down onto the carpet and observing that there was nail clippings spread our across the carpet, we elected to wear our socks at all times, with the exception of between the sheets. By the end of the night our previously clean socks had collected quite the assortment of hairs, and other little nasties. Not to mention the outright dirt collected on our once white socks. I wonder when the carpets were last vacuumed? Or last saw a shampooer? Yuck!

I realize that they cannot control the industrial area around them, but it reminds me of abandoned Chernobyl.

We chose this hotel for its proximity to family. It's out of the city, but on a road that took us everywhere we needed to go.
Room was clean and big enough for 2 adults & a 5 yr old. Wished they had turned on the air conditioner a few hours before we checked in. Room was very stuffy!
Breakfast & wifi were a big plus. Beds were comfortable and we were able to get sleep well.
Would stay again only next time would pick a room on the backside.
Thank you!!!

We stayed here during a family shopping trip.Room was comfortable and clean.
Location is isolated as buildings/businesses have been abandoned?
Pool was cold.
Continental breakfast is great! Something for everyone.

The inconvenient location, the room condition, the quality of service, more of the reason to make this the WORST decision we made for this trip. The bathroom is outdates, the room is humid, and there room service was closed when we arrive after a long flight, which wasn't that late by the way. I do not recommend this hotel at all, unless you have a specific reason to be in this specific area. The hotel is not cheap either, so better make a wise conscious choice.

After reading mixed reviews on this hotel, I was pleasantly surprised. We were heading to Niagra Falls with our family and were looking for an affordable one night stay. I included a request for a roll-away with my online reservation - it was waiting in our room when we arrived (although my 12-yr-old said he could feel all the springs!). The hotel was booked full for the night but we did not hear any other guests. It was "just okay" as far as clean; the corners of our bathroom looked like they had been neglected for a while. The breakfast was very good (waffle maker, eggs, sausage, french toast, bagels, cereal, etc.). Staff was pleasant. No complaints for the price and location. (Just 30 minutes to the falls.)
