“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Had lunch here on my way to Saratoga Springs, NY and hated to leave. Was in heaven with my Zuppa Pescatore, ate very slowly and enjoyed every bite.

“Locals Eat Here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

We were uncertain about eating here after reading the mixed reviews on tripadvisor but looked it over the first night in town when we ate in the area and decided to give it a try. The negative reviews often mention lax service and watery sauce. We didn't find either of these. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Our food came promptly. The portions were generous (we both brought the next day's dinner home). The sauce was thick and tasty. We are Italian and have high standards for Italian food and this was certainly within the acceptable range. I would recommend Savonna's. We'll return when we're in Kingston again.

“Great Italian food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Very good Italian food, very extensive menu, good service, friendly staff and excellent drinks. A great place to go for a casual meal. It can be somewhat noisy if it is crowded.

“Some nice dishes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We drove down to the Kingston Historic Waterfront at the foot of Broadway. The first restaurant, Mariner's Harbor, looked like a fun hang, and they had a BBQ going on the back porch. But the music was blaring too loud, you couldn't have a conversation without raising your voice. THIS IS MY PET PEEVE IN MANY PLACES NOW. If you have piped-in music, it needs to be in the background. Dear managers: Have your hearing checked, clean your ears out, whatever. If conversation is strained, because the music level is higher than relaxed speaking at the tables, you've got it wrong! -- So, Mariner's Harbor, we passed you by.

Savona's Trattoria had outdoor seating. Again, indoors, the muzac was a tad too loud. At least the staff humored us and turned it down a bit. "Young people seem to enjoy it," was their barely polite comment. (I guess, I'm old?) Well, see my comment above.

Their best special of the day was with fresh mission figs: angel hair pasta, with figs, walnuts, gorgonzola. A lovely dish. The figs (in season right now) also showed up in the appetizer salad with gorgonzola, almost as good.
Please don't over-sauce salads, guys. You learned that in cooking school, remember that. The garlic sticks up front were a nice touch. Again, you can go easier on the grease without losing the flavor.
Two local brews on the beer menu: Hurricane Kitty IPA, and Mother's Milk stout. Why not have a couple more local beers? You're in a prime craft-brewing area, how about some local cider?

I would come back. I'm sure you can up your game with a couple of tweaks.

“Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Was treated to lunch here on a business trip. Good food, attentive service. I had the Melted Gorgonzola Steak Salad - very good. There were breadsticks on the table that my lunch mates said were retry tasty.
