The good: Spacious room, comfortable beds, nicely decorated, excellent breakfasts.
The bad: Poor room lighting, no air conditioning (a problem in hot humid weather when 2 of us are asthmatic), wall paint in room is worn away in places, toilet and sink area is cramped.
The in-between: Cleaner than my house; not as clean as my mother's or mother in law's.
For a B&B, the Trail's End was not homey and hospitable. The server at breakfast was pleasant, otherwise we never saw the staff. The owners were only available if telephoned or called via doorbell, so we never met them (two-day stay). We saw them walking their dogs, but they didn't speak to us. There was no one to tell about a burned out light bulb or from whom to request a fan. No one ever inquired about our satisfaction.
While I don't need my hand held, the reason I choose B&Bs over hotels is the connection with my hosts and the feeling of being 'at home.'
If you are interested in spending time in the mountains and all you need is a place to sleep, the Trail's End would suit you perfectly.
If your main goal is to be a bit removed from Lake Placid, but still nearby, this location is too far, especially at night: 25 minutes down a windy road.
