“Great place to kick back, so cozy and close to amazing hiking spots”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2010

We stayed here right before heading off to our wedding in Italy as a pre-honeymoon retreat before the madness. It was more than I could have hoped for and much better than photos had made it seem online. It was very cozy, great decor and everything you might imagine in your mind of what a bed and breakfast should look and feel like. As a matter of fact, to date, it is the best one I think I've ever stayed at. Typically with most places, I view it as only a place to sleep, but you really feel so at home there that you want to stay in the house and linger around the nooks and crannies as part of your vacation, because it has so much character. They have a large wrap-around outdoor porch with comfortable rocking chairs too.

We had arrived mid-week so we almost had the whole house to ourselves, we stood up with tea and played chess by the window and read some books. We also took some incredible and memorable hikes close by. Wonderful waterfalls and the high peaks mountains are literally breath-taking. If and when I return to the Adirondacks, I will definitely return to the Keane Valley lodge.

Also run by a very loving couple who will take good care of you and prepare a great breakfast. The owner even makes the bread and muffins from scratch. Delicious!

We left it quite late to try and find accommodation for our short break snowshoeing in the Adirondacks and after fruitlessly searching the internet for places to stay near some of the trail heads in the Lake Placid region, we happened to read the reviews of this guest house by other tripadvisor reviews and immediately 'phoned from Ireland to make a reservation.

The reviews turned out to be totally accurate. We were lucky enough to get the spacious Notman Suite for our long weekend which comes equipped with a kitchen, lounge/dining room, bedroom and en suite bathroom complete with large bath tub. This was ideal for us as we could cook our own meals at odd times (rising before dawn and getting back quite late after snoeshoeing long trails). The kitchen was extremely well appointed with absolutely everything you needed, a real home from home. The decor in this large wooden house is typically American, with colourful quilts, drapes, rugs, cushions, cottage style furniture and lots of pictures depicting the natural history and heritage of the Adirondack Mountains. Our rooms were kept wonderfully warm by a cast iron stove and there was plenty of piping hot water.

Breakfast was incredible, with a fantastic choice that would surely suit all. Cereal, including organic porridge oats with maple syrup, scrambled eggs that tasted divine, homemade bread and blueberry muffins, yoghurt, fresh fruit and lashings of real hot coffee, served in a lovely country dining room with check table cloths, provided a great start to each day.

Although the Notman Suite had a lounge, we enjoyed sitting in the beautifully furnished lounge just off the front porch in the main part of the house in the evenings, where a huge log fire threw out a welcome glow and plenty of warmth. In such a homely atmosphere it was incredibly relaxing to sit in front of the fire with a single malt and enjoy the company of other guests, some of whom we have stayed in touch with.

George, the proprietor, gave us tip top information about a short snowshoe trail with great views a few minutes away (Rooster Comb) to do on our first half day. This turned out to be great advice as it was a sound practice run before climbing Mount Marcy the next day. We also loved the fact that the Mountaineer (outdoor shop) was just down the road.

Unlike many American guest houses I've stayed in, there is nothing kitsch about Keene Valley Lodge which is an authentic and cosy mountain area residence. The propietors are very well travelled themselves and it shows. They know exactly how to welcome and look after their guests, many of whom keep on coming back time and time again. When next in the Adirondacks, this is the only place we will want to stay.

We were only there for one night, but we booked their last room available, number 7, which was very quiet and facing the back. After a 3+ hour travel, and a 3+ hour cross country ski outing, we were delighted to arrive to a cozy, warm, quiet room with a larger-than-life bath tub. A hot bubble bath quickly followed.

The common area welcomes you with a piano & library room, adjacent to a romantic fireplace.

We had a ten-hour night which ended when the delightful yet strong aroma of freshly brewed, kick-your-butt coffee came up from the kitchen For breakfast, we were greeted with homemade oatmeal, with nuts and dried fruits, granola & yogourt, homemade lots-of-blueberries muffins, scrambled eggs, fresh bread with choices of jams and peanut butter. The breakfast ended when our stomachs said "Enough!". However, a battle between our taste buds and our stomachs ensued... and the taste buds won! As a result, we had plenty of energy to enjoy another day filled with hours of winter fun before returning home, truly satisfied.

We have stayed at this location many times (and have also visited other B&Bs in the Keene Valley area). We will return because of the wonderful. knowledgeable inn keepers and the feeling of being at home in the inn. We rented a suite with kitchen and a private deck. The rooms are comfortable, clean and everytime we come, we notice that the room has been updated in some way. The Lodge is walking distance from the Garden trailhead (or you can flag down the shuttle as we did!). I wish there were more dining opportunities within walking distance, but otherwise, a perfect exerience.

My friends & I come to the lodge every year for a weekend of hiking & biking & we have never been disappointed. We love the lodge so much we wouldn't even think of staying anyplace else- everything from the fabulous breakfasts, the Adirondack decor & wonderful fireplace, the laidback atmosphere & the friendly innkeepers who never fail to give us helpful info on hiking & biking routes. Can't wait to come back next year!

My wife and I have been visiting the Adirondacks for a number of years and our favorite place to stay is the Keene Valley Lodge. The KVL is located at the epicenter of ADK outdoor activites, the quaint village of Keene Valley. There is no more convenient place to stay if you are planning to hike, backpack, fish, ski or just relax in the High Peaks. Keene Valley has most of the necessary amenities, including The Mountaineer, the area's premier outdoor and mountaineering store.

The KVL is an old homestead that is set up as a comfortable and friendly place to stay. The beautiful old house is well maintained and has plenty of room to relax when you are not out enjoying the mountains, and there is a fairly wide selection of room types and prices to meet your trip budget. For those of us who worry about how we treat the environment, the inkeepers use only environmentally friendly cleaning products and provides guests with soaps and shampoo that are designed to protect our beloved Adirondacks.

Breakfasts are typically one of the highlights of each day, with outstanding coffee, homemade muffins (every day), fresh fruit, Adirondack maple syrup, cereals, hot oatmeal, fresh bread and eggs. Hot tea and hot chocolate are available any time of the day or night in the main serving room for those wanting (needing) something to drink, and a small refridgerator is available for guests to keep modest amounts of personal food or drink. Wine glasses and a corkscrew are always nearby for those of us who enjoy a glass at the end of each day. Beds are comfortable and there are fans in every room for the warmer summer months. The huge old fireplace is available for starting a cheery fire during the colder months.

I could go on and on, but suffice to say that the KVL is a great place to visit, relax, enjoy the outdoors, all in a welcoming atmosphere where you always feel as if you have come back home. If you are planning a trip to the High Peaks region of northern New York, make sure the KVL is on your short list of places to stay.

Recently returned from my annual 3-week stay at the Keene Valley Lodge and enjoyed every thing and every hour of my visit. This was my 6th consecutive year of staying at the Keene Valley Lodge in the Notman Suite. It is the only unit in the Lodge complete with kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom, bath and outdoor patio....all well-maintained and well-furnished. I now refer to it as "my home away from home".

The lodge is more that a B and B...it is a place to relax, breath clean air, read a book, admire the beautiful flower beds, play chess, visit with other guests, take a hot bath and relax your sore muscles in preparation for the next day activities. George and Laurie (Inn Keeper and Owners) and the staff are very knowledgeable about all local activities. They know from experience the mountain trails, ski trails, swimming holes, fly-fishing holes,. canoe and kayak activities, art shows, library activities, museums in the North Country, etc, and will share their knowledge......ask and you shall receive.

In visiting with Keene Valley Lodge guests I realize that many families return OFTEN. They too have discovered the comfort and pleasure of staying at the Keene Valley Lodge...my "home away from home".
