“Nsobe definitely OPEN! And wonderful....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

I have been back to Nsobe twice since my last review and can add the following thoughts for potential visitors:
- the game camp is definitely OPEN! there have been some reports that it may be temporarily closed, but these are groundless - get down there and enjoy the scenery, cuisine, service and escapism from the bustle of Zambia
- having now stayed in the "Honeymoon Chalet", or Woodlands View, it is well worth considering for a truly magical, romantic break - set high above the tree canopy on an isolated hilltop, from your bed you have views over tens of kilometres of bush and nothing will disturb your peace (aside from the woodlands sounds and maybe the staff preparing your supper)
- the Fisherman's Chalet, set by the lakeside, is a marvellous retreat to book with friends - 4 separate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms; braai area and lapa with table for 8; fridge and kitchen area
Enjoy! We certainly have done!

Situated 20 or 30km South of the quite large Copperbelt town of Ndola is this little gem of a game park. It's around 1,500 hectares of a mix of open grasslands and woodland, with game-drives meandering through, and various vantage points from which to stop and admire the views and the animals. I have been fortunate enough to stay twice: the first camping by the lake, and the second at the "private" bush camp.

Firstly: The campsite was large and nicely grassed, with individual braai stands and tables down by the water's edge. The toilet blocks were clean and functional with hot water. There's the swimming pool nearby, and also the bar and restaurant 100m away should you decide that you don't fancy cooking yourself. I had a look at the semi-permanent tents too, and they seemed great if you want a bit more luxury and don't want to pitch your own. Secondly: The bushcamp - the real jewel. Set in a "private" area of the reserve, you really are out in woods. As mentioned in previous reviews you'll almost certainly be visited by impala and other buck (eland, duiker, sitatunga if you are very lucky), and in addition we were treated to a closer inspection by one of the park's giraffe. In the early morning we went for a cycle and were rewarded with more buck and one, unidentified (at least by me!) enormous bird of prey. But I had to chuckle at the reviewer below who seemed to be suggesting all the sounds were a bit too loud! To be so completely surrounded by the woodland chorus was magical. What a way to nod off to sleep!

Judging by the reports I have heard of the distances people travel just to eat at the restaurant, I am sure the food must be good and will be trying it soon. And I can personally testify to the quality of the cooking and attentiveness of the staff at the bush camp. All-in-all, a marvellous, charming and somewhat rustic escape from the bustle of the real world. They offer a variety of board options, from the self-catering end, right through to a full-board with inclusive bar package. The bush camp, I should note, must be booked in its entirety - all 5 chalets - as they share a communal eating/relaxation area.

Room Tip: Any of the bush-camp chalets!

Spent a wonderful day and night at this restful facility. For the package tag of bed, dinner and breakfast one can not ask for more. The only advice to management is that Nsobe needs attention. The tented chalets don't close fully as the zipping mechanism is falling down. Please bring in new tents.

Service and food are still very good despite the number of years. I will return when tressed and in need of a wild experience an hour away from home.

While the family chalets need to be totally remodeled and the pool was as green as the lake, the service was excellent and very friendly, and the property was beautiful and such a nice departure from Lusaka. It's true that during the days and evenings our chalet was very peaceful, but at night and early in the morning the 75 million bugs, birds, frogs, and monkeys made it a little too noisy for a truly restful night. Overall I think we'll go back, but we might camp which would be a better value for your money.

Beautiful place far out in the "bush". Water (dams) all around, lots of birds and antelopes. You have a choice of either fully equipped tents or chalets. The only thing that looked bad was the dirty pool. A pity because it was beautifully situated close to the dam and a nice bar area. Overall impression; Peaceful, clean, nice food, friendly staff. A perfect place to spend the night when we went to Dag Hammarskjold Memmorial north of Ndola.

My family and I stayed at the bush camp recently and is was fantastic. Completely separate from the main camp, we didn't see a soul for days, we saw zebra, giraffe and eland in very close quarters though! The game wander about freely and came very close to us to graze. The chalets are luxurious and the outdoor bathrooms with hot running water were beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful, available when we needed them and seemed to disappear to leave us in privacy at other times. I definitely recommend the bush camp for a peaceful getaway

Room Tip: Zebras were trooping around outside each chalet so I can't advise which one to pick! it was beau...

We arrived on a public holiday and the park was in Chaos. Day trippers have their own section, but they were throughout the park, the campsite was overrun and there was hardly any space to pitch the tent. There was music everywhere and people were in a party mood.

After 6 pm though, everybody left and normality resumed - the place was deserted, quiet and peaceful. Staff even came and cleared up the rubbish and tidied the place up. The campsites are right on the river and very nice, each with their own braai area and shade from the trees. There is quite a bit of game to see on the drive and you should visit the hilltop resting place for remarkable views of the forest and the sunset – there is even a bed to chill out on.

There was a bit of a lack of water (hot and cold) during our visit. It was probably caused by too many people visiting over the holiday, but the staff tried to sort it out and even let us use an empty chalet for taking a shower, so they were helpful. They do have some electrical hookup facilities if you need to use them and there is a shop on site which sells a small selection of food, meat and other stuff.
