Taking an afternoon off the grounds of the nearby Chautauqua Institute, we visited the Roger Tory Peterson Institute for about one hour. The building's design is a great mix of display, administrative and educational space. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Unfortunately, on the day of our visit it was simply too hot to walk the nature trails. The $6.00 per adult entry fee was a bit steep -- but we felt we were supporting the work of the institute with our money. Don't drive way out of your way, but if you are in the vicinity, it's definitely good for a visit for an hour or so.
