A neighborhood staple for 20 years, I don't know why this is only the second time I've eaten here in all this time. In a neighborhood overrun with Italian restaurants, this one stands out as a quality mid priced one.
From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but inside it takes on a roomy, fine dining atmosphere, even thought it's casual. Warm earth-tone stones and ambient lighting-- and even tablecloths. The wait staff is appropriately uniformed and attentive. We went on a Tuesday night, just about dinner time and restaurant quickly filled up. The tables are spaced apart generously so no one is on top of anyone, giving enough privacy to enjoy your companions and enough room for you to get in and out of your chair without banging into neighboring diners.
Now for the food. When they seat you, they immediately give you a basket of warm garlic knots and pizza strips and a pticher of water. I like a restaurant that gives you a pitcher for the table. Some people think it makes for lazy service, but I think it frees the staff to concentrate on serving food and I don't have to die of thirst while waiting for someone to fill my glass. They have fair amount of food selections on their menu -- something to please everyone, but pretty much what you would expect at an Italian eatery. The portions were generous and the food delicious. We ordered from the "Tuesday Special" menu which, at the time of this review, was prixe fixed at $16.99. It included a bowl (not a cup) of one of their hearty soups or a salad; a side of penne (which was big enough to be a main dish) with a choice between 2 sauces; a main course choice of 5 popular dishes (including vegetables) with tea and a mini cannoli for dessert. I am quite sure the portions of the pasta a main course were only slightly smaller than ordering the full priced items.
We did not go hungry. By the middle of the pasta course, my companion decided to have the rest wrapped to take home so she could have enough room for the main course. While I ate everything, and thoroughly enjoyed every bite, my companion filled up faster and took the rest of her main course home.
One note - Since this is a family friendly restaurant, it had many dining children. Although they were well behaved, there was some unruliness, but the manager had a discreet word with the parents and everything was good.
