“Nice hotel with cosy rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

We had a connected flight via New York from Costa Rica back to Germany which got cancelled due to snow storms. The airline was not able to help us with a room and everything was kind of chaotic at JFK airport. Luckily the shuttle but dropped us of at Jamaica Street station an we ended up there with two huge bags when a local advised us this hotel since it was just around the corner. They had just a free rooms left and as you can imagine during snow storms and more than 600 cancelled flights all hotels next to the airport have been booked out.

Khalil, one of the guys at the reception was super friendly and we could store our luggage for the next full day at the hotel. Since our flight back was scheduled for the early evening we could spend a half day in Manhattan to do some shopping. Subway was almost in front of the door with a direct connection to Times Square (about 35 minutes).

The breakfast was included which I never had before in New York - yeah, and it was actually really good too.

Stayed in this hotel for two nights. I chose it due to the combination of three factors (1) easy access to the airport (2) easy access to the downtown (3) free parking (4) price. All of the criteria were fulfilled and very well. The price is reasonable considering the general level of hotel prices in NYC. The parking had just a few lots working on the "first come first served" principle, but there seemed to be always be a couple of free slots every time we came. We had a rental car that needed to be returned at JFK. Both a short drive to the JFK rental return cites and the ride back to the hotel by AirTrain were great and easy. Both AirTrain to JFK and the subway (express train to the downtown) are in close proximity to the hotel. On the way to the subway there seems to be a butchery that generates unpleasant odor, but it can be experienced only during the walk to the station (not from the rooms fortunately). The restaurant space is tiny and the breakfast was very basic but surprisingly very good and filling. The neighborhood area looks a bit suspicious, but it might only my subjective feeling. Overall, the hotel, location and links to JFK and downtow, and the service were quite good.

The hotel manager has always been very polite, courteous and helpful. Very helpful!!!! Always get my room preference and answers any questions I have about the area. She is very knowledgable about resources of the hotel and the area. She always goes above and beyond to help me and make my stay as comfortable as she can.

We arrived to New York without any plans of where to stay as we had a connecting flight less than 12 hours later from a different airport. We figured we could just go to the other airport stay there but after a 12 hour international flight we really needed a place to stay and rest.

We took the AirTrain from JFK and we saw the Quality Inn sign as the train was reaching Jamaica station so we got off and walked to the place and got a room without reading any reviews or doing any research....but we were not disappointed :)

What I liked about the place:

- The location was amazing, very close to the AirTrain station as well as the Subway Station and Rail Road station (less than 5 minutes walking with luggage)

- The staff were friendly. The front desk employee was really helpful (unfortunately can't remember his full name but it started with KH)

- There are food shops within 10 minutes walking distance (24 hours Subway in the gas station near by, just follow the AirTrain tracks and you'll find it)

- The room was clean

What I didn't like much:

- The price, we arrived on a weekend so we got a weekend price which was a little high than what we would expect to pay but I guess the weekend prices would have been higher in other places as well.

- The room size, the room was small for a couple with 6 pieces of luggage so we had a bit of difficulty going around the room.

Over all we liked the hotel and the location was nice for our quick trip downtown. We only stayed till 4 am (we had a 7 am flight) but I would stay there again if I needed a good location between the airport and downtown.

Note: some reviews complain about the location saying it's not safe after dark but we didn't feel that. We arrived around 6 pm and went out for a city tour around 10 pm, returning after midnight and leaving for the airport at 4 am. The streets were mostly empty at all these times but nothing suspicious or creepy was going on so don't be afraid.

Basically we had an overnight layover in NYC on our way to Paris. We were looking for an affordable place close to the airport and near a train station to go into the city and the Quality Inn fit this perfectly. Very convenient from the airport. Once you get off the Airtrain at the Jamaica Station (be warned it does cost $5 to get off at that station) it was an easy two block walk. The neighborhood is a tad seedy and you walk past a live chicken shop which smells as bad as you'd expect - but if you just hold your breath for that half block you'll be fine. The subway to the city is located in the same station, so it was just as easy to take that. It took us about 45 minutes to get downtown.

Once we got there, the guy who checked us in was super helpful and even gave us a late check-out for free for the next day since our flight was so late.

As far as the rooms, they were fine. Although, they have probably seen better days. The room was quite large. There were some burn marks on the floor and stains on the mirror. But, the room felt clean and the beds were comfortable. The shower was nice with good water pressure.

There has been quite a few complaints about the breakfast. I have to say there was a waffle iron and some fruit, so I was happy with it.

Budget hotel across from the LIRR and JFK transit. Stayed New Year's Eve. We were arriving early in the afternoon and had called ahead about the possibility of an absurdly early checkin. On arrival, Leo at the front desk went out of his way to find us a room that had been cleaned and track down a rollaway bed. The staff later moved us to a larger room, unasked, so the rollaway would be more usable. There were multiple extremely cheerful staff members working to accomodate only our needs for over a half hour on the busiest night of the year. This is a level of service I feel is extremely rare in New York. Returned well after midnight and did not feel uncomfortable walking from LIRR. Rooms clean and typically sized for NY. Will definitely stay again.

Hotel was one of the most affordable stays and still be in New York. Convenient to the LIRR and Subway. Neighborhood is seedy especially at night. I wouldn't be walking around that's for sure. The queen sized bed was ok. Room was clean. The breakfast was horrible. Stale breads and pastry's. Not sure what the meat even was but was gross. If your a platinum or platinum gold choice member don't expect any respect. I'm a platinum member which in every other hotel Ive stayed at they upgraded my room for free. Not here. It didn't mean anything which is why I'm giving less than a good review. I'm a loyal choice hotel member which is why im platinum but that didn't mean anything to the hotel staff. I probably wont stay here again but if your looking for the more affordable prices and still be in New York look here.
