We stayed there for one night so we didn’t have to get up at 4am to catch a Seattle to JFK flight and then risk not having our luggage when we get to Europe because the connection at JFK was only 45 minutes, so we took a later flight out of Seattle, stayed at Fairfield Inn by JFK for one night before our next day’s flight to Europe. I stayed there with Marriott points, and it was a Fairfield Inn so I wasn’t expecting much and everything met my expectation for an one night stay except for the restaurants (more on that later). The hotel is relatively new, it is a secure building, the room is clean and functional. The hotel is near the JFK airport and in a sketchy neighborhood, that was fine with us since we had no plans to explore the neighborhood anyway. It was a nice touch where the hotel manager sent out detailed information via email a few days before our scheduled arrival on how to catch the free shuttle from the airport to the hotel. BTW, the highlight of the hotel is really the shuttle service to/from the airport, it’s very well run.
What’s unusual for a Fairfield Inn is that it has a full on site restaurant that serves dinner till 10:30pm, but the restaurant service is seriously lacking. We got to the restaurant at 9:30pm, we ordered and then waited 45 minutes for a burger and a salad, and it was just us and another table of people in the restaurant at that hour. I thought maybe there was only one cook in the back, even that shouldn’t take 45 minutes to cook a burger and make a salad, but when we finally got our dish (and the other table finally got their appetizer, they got their main course even later), I noticed there were actually at least three uniformed cooks behind the kitchen door, and that simply puzzled me on what they were doing taking so long serving their customers. So if you are going to eat at the restaurant at late hour, you might want to first ask how long it’s going to take, there are Chinese and Pizza take-outs right across the street, I wished we did the takeout on our night that we stayed there.
