This hotel has received so many excellent reviews it almost seems redundant to write another one. But the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff prompts me to add one more. It had been a while since we had stayed at a Hampton and my memories were of small cramped rooms and in a city full of hotels with small rooms, I was expecting the same. After an incredibly frustrating time getting through customs at JFK (why can't we review airports?), we walked out and the shuttle was there waiting for us to take us on the short drive to the hotel.
To walk into the lobby that was beautifully decorated for Christmas (a site for these sore eyes after having been in a non-Christmas celebrating country for two years) was such just comforting. Walking into our room was an equal experience. Gone are the old cramped, drab room of the past. The beds were great - comfy mattress and clean, fresh bedding.
The highlight of our stay was the helpfulness of Ivy, who was working at the front desk. After an excellent breakfast -- full of options for every taste, which was beneficial for my husband who often can only find cereal and pastries that he can't eat because of gluten intolerance, Ivy gave us assistance with all the options to go into the city and the quickest and most economic choices. She walked us through the entire process, including where to get the Metro card needed for the bus. We got in and out of Manhattan in about four hours, thanks to her recommendations. One reviewer used the cost of getting to the city as a reason to not stay at the hotel, but that seems hardly fair if your goal is a hotel near the airport. How is that the hotel's fault? They tagged and put our luggage in a secure room so we didn't have to worry with that while we were gone.
Another concern I had was that with its proximity to the airport and the interstate that it would be noisy, but we never heard anything sleep disturbing.
The only negative was one another reviewer mentioned. We had to go request glasses from the front desk, and the cleaning staff had neglected to leave towels. But seriously, the nice facility and incredible staff completely outweighed this inconvenience.
We would stay again and recommend this hotel with no reservations.
