“Lap of Luxury!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2010

This is a very nice hotel. It has more charm than any chain we'd ever stayed in, such as Marriott, Hilton, etc. The rooms were spacious and well appointed (ours was a corner room). The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The staff were friendly and helpful, although they were unable to help connect my computer to their Internet. All in all, it was an excellent experience: if you're looking for a fine hotel in Ithaca, we highly recommend it.

My husband and I just had an overnight stay at La Tourelle to celebrate his birthday, and I have to say it exceeded all of our expectations. The first thing the lady at the desk did after welcoming us was to see if she could upgrade our room--no such luck since a corporate group had taken over much of the hotel, but they were a very jolly bunch. Despite all of the guests apparently staying there, it was lovely and quiet the whole time, from the cozy lounge with its wood fire to our lovely King room with valley view to the Tranquility Rooms in the spa that guests can use as part of their stay. The service everywhere was outstanding: managing director Scott introduced himself to us very warmly and gave us our complimentary wine tasting, all of the people at the front desk were friendly and obliging, and we got a lovely tour of the spa from the woman working there. Overall there was just a lot to appreciate in this unique place. We liked that the artwork and sculptures everywhere are not generic "hotel art" kinds of things but pieces collected by Scott's parents over many years of traveling the world; the bistro where we had breakfast had fresh-baked, warm pastries and real danishes from Denmark as well as locally sourced foods; and you could get absolutely delicious organic fair trade coffee in the lounge at any hour. The grounds were lovely and included nice "wiggly" walks lined with honeysuckle bushes, plenty of gazebos, and a cool outdoor chess game where you can walk on the board and move big pieces around. We had a good love-in with a sweet dog named Bubba as she was taking the air, and I was happy that she had a chance to stay at the hotel along with the humans because of her pet-friendly room. We will definitely be back and will heartily recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the Ithaca area.

We have been visiting Ithaca once or twice a year for nine years and have varied where we stay. La Tourelle is the best we have stayed in. You are greeted with beautiful grounds and a warm and welcoming staff. Service is top notch. Everyone is helpful and wants to satisfy your request. The desk staff led us to our room and showed us all the room features. After we checked in, we got a call from the front desk, telling us that they forgot to tell us about the complimentary wine tasting in the lobby that was being held in an hour. Room is big and designed with a French flair. Bed was comfortable and plenty of pillows. Bathroom was recently renovated. Although slightly on the expensive side for Ithaca, well worth the extra few dollars.

We were made to feel welcome from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. Our room was clean, spacious, had character, a balcony and a gorgeous view. We loved the jacuzzi bathtub. The 24 hour coffee and tea bar in the cozy lobby was always fresh. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The spa was everything we expected and worth the money. The food at the Simply Red Bistro and John Thomas Steak House was exceptional! I can't wait to go back.

It was the only place I would stay while in Ithaca. I stayed there on 3 different occassions. The service is wonderful, the rooms are quaint and clean. The August Moon Spa is attached to La Tourrelle, if you choose to use it. It can be a little bit pricey, but you pay for what you get. Wonderful place.

What better compliment can be said then to go back to a place you've been to ... not once or twice, but over and over again for nearly 20 years!

This year we went to celebrate our anniversary.

I've had the pleasure of watching LaTourelle grow and expand over the years and with good reason! Dollar for dollar you can't beat the value for both the room and the spa.

Whenever I stay - I always rent the "Paris" Executive Fireplace Suite. The room is Heavenly! The bathroom with its 2 person Jacuzzi bathtub and double head shower is spacious and classy.

The living room area is just perfect with its, comfy furniture, gas fireplace and projector television. Sink back in a bit of luxury and relax. Lots of books in the small in room library should you wish to do a little reading. Can't finish it all during your stay? No worries they'll let you take it home!

The room is well equiped with all the ammenities you could hope for, blowdryer, iron/ironing board, projector television, a refridgerator, cd player and dvd/vcr player, Wine glasses, ice bucket etc...

Exquisite views of nature from your balcony - we really enjoyed watching the deer. During our stay during the warmer months.. we enjoy the grounds, the trails.. the many places to sit and relax... and... of course the life size chess game!

The four post pillow top bed.... is simply delightful! It makes getting up in the morning hard.... so hard we ordered continental breakfast from the Smiply Red Bistro. One word: YUM!

Room service isn't your thing? Then a short trip downstairs will greet you with the wonderful aromas of all kinds of things being cooked up for you in the Bistro, which is a somewhat recent addition to LaTourelle. The Ceiling is gorgeous ... the service exceptional and the food really quite good! Lots of natural ingredients.. all from local food vendors.

There is always staff available to meet your every need, promptly, efficiently and with a smile.

The lobby is very comfortable... we sat in front of the fire and enjoyed the complimentary wines offered during the evening. Coffee is also available in the lobby at all times.

Dinner at John Thomas Steakhouse is nice, a short walk from your room... they certainly make a great steak.. but if you're looking for something different.. and yet a wonderful culinary experience.. a short trip up 34 North will lead you to an exceptional meal at The Elizabeth Restaurant.

If you enjoy spa treatments then I highly recommend the August Moon Spa. It's very clean, and the staff are most accomodating.

There is a fitness room, with all the equipment you need for a good work out. The locker rooms are quite nice... lots of ice water, and ammenities on hand.

Take a few minutes to wind down and relax before and after your treatments in one of two rooms.. .One has a lovely rock wall .. with water rolling down it.. and the other a beautiful fire place. Lots of hot tea and honey avaialable for your enjoyment, as well as pitchers of water.

The treatment rooms are very comfortable. We had the couples massage with hot parafin wax dips for our hands and feet......... DELIGHTFUL!
I've been to other spas/resorts in NYS, and again dollar for dollar you just can't beat the value offered at LaTourelle.

We finished up our spa experience with a bit of time in the sauna and steam room.. and the back upstairs to our little slice of heaven in Ithaca, NY.

Do I recommend La Tourelle? WHOLE HEARTEDLY!
